  1. my fix was to change a UEFI setting (set the option "Load Legacy Option ROM" to true).
  2. this happens every month for me. The Website should be up now.
  3. I was using Vista since Build 5456 and loved it compared to XP which I was running before. I never had any real issue with the RTM it was a gigantic step compared to that ugly XP.
  4. Yeah, MS stopped activating this free keys some time ago. Why haven't you made a compete backup?
  5. You use an Acer OEM key for a ASUS laptop. Where did you get this Laptop/Windows?
  6. the idle trace shows some DPC issues caused by the nVIDIA GPU driver: Total = 50848 for module nvlddmkm.sysElapsed Time, > 0 usecs AND <= 1 usecs, 903, or 1.78%Elapsed Time, > 1 usecs AND <= 2 usecs, 8468, or 16.65%Elapsed Time, > 2 usecs AND <= 4 usecs, 10120, or 19.90%Elapsed Time, > 4 usecs AND <= 8 usecs, 7422, or 14.60%Elapsed Time, > 8 usecs AND <= 16 usecs, 17104, or 33.64%Elapsed Time, > 16 usecs AND <= 32 usecs, 5847, or 11.50%Elapsed Time, > 32 usecs AND <= 64 usecs, 678, or 1.33%Elapsed Time, > 64 usecs AND <= 128 usecs, 29, or 0.06%Elapsed Time, > 128 usecs AND <= 256 usecs, 0, or 0.00%Elapsed Time, > 256 usecs AND <= 512 usecs, 271, or 0.53%Elapsed Time, > 512 usecs AND <= 1024 usecs, 6, or 0.01%Total, 50848In the gaming the Spikes of the nVIDIA driver are larger. You still use the 337.88 driver, try the 340.52: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/77224/en-us and look if this improves it.
  7. he should also activate driver verifier: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/ff545448%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
  8. Unknown (0x0) = Caching Try the linked Hotfix Rollup which fixes a lot of issues. It may fixes the RDP issue.
  9. capture 2 traces (one idle and one during gaming) so that I can compare them.
  10. PreSMSS is very slow. Open the XML and look under PNP which devices/drivers are slow to start.
  11. ok, this confirms my guess that this is a hardware issue
  12. Is the hardware fine (RAM, CPU)? ******************************************************************************** ** Bugcheck Analysis ** ********************************************************************************DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (d1)An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at aninterrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. Looks for a BIOS Update (yours is 4 years old now).
  13. Awesome. I also replaced my SSD and this wasted a key. Nice to hear that I can get a new key later
  14. no, there is no WFP in Windows since Vista. You have to take ownership of the file. But this is bad. Use Image File Execution Options (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options) to redirect notepad.exe calls by modify the Debuggers value to notepad2.
  15. try this alternative tool: http://www.poweradmin.com/paexec/
  16. I have no idea. I never start applications maximized.
  17. replace the HDD with a SSD. Everything else is not helping
  18. why is StartIsBack not compiled with ASLR (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Address_space_layout_randomization) enabled?
  19. he misses the spaces between /Online and the options
  20. 64Bit is only useful when you use 4GB or more RAM. With only 1GB RAM, stay at the 32Bit version.
  21. Your Windows needs 156s to boot. Long delays happen during Explorer load and starting all startup tools. capture a trace with this command: xbootmgr -trace boot -traceFlags BASE+LATENCY+DISPATCHER+FILE_IO+FILENAME -stackwalk profile+CSwitch+ReadyThread -resultPath C:\TEMP zip and upload the generated ETL file.
  22. Boot to UI is fast with 8s, but to be fully booted it takes 36s: - <timing bootDoneViaExplorer="8365" bootDoneViaPostBoot="46065" I see that the Defender is still running even if you have Avast and Comodo installed. It causes a large CPU usage during boot. Take ownership of this key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Defender), give your account full permissions and set the value DisableAntiSpyware/DisableAntiVirus to 1. You also start a ton of tools at startup. Look what can be removed. And next time, buy a license for your Dads PC and don't use a KMS crack ("C:\Program Files\KMSpico\Service_KMS.exe") activated Win 8.1 Enterprise
