  1. Windows 8 works, but Win7 users have issues with update kb3004394: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_update/windows-update-kb3004394-issues/ace25277-7f65-4486-bc44-c1b106907a18 That is the price Microsoft now pays for their stupid rapid releases. Good quality needs a bit more time and testing.
  2. This is a know crash caused by Autodesk Inventor. I think there is a patch which solves it. 3. 0x000000b7 = ERROR_ALREADY_EXISTS with xperf you get this when ProcessExplorer or other tools that use ETW are already running. Close them before running the command
  4. this is no aero issue. This happens when you use a theme which is incompatible with the Spring Update for 8.1. StartIsBack+ fixes it.
  5. I also have this sometime when I close the Internet Explorer. Run taskkill/pskill to close the exe.
  6. http://www.askvg.com/fix-unknown-characters-or-vertical-rectangles-are-showing-in-place-of-metro-icons-in-windows-8-start-screen-and-login-screen/
  7. report this to Tihiy in his topic: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/163489-startisback-17/
  8. I don't have this Samsung SSD (only Crucial MX100 and the older Samsung 830 and with both I don't have such a delay). Do you have a a 2nd PC/Laptop where you can insert the SSD and test if it also happens there?
  9. which program do I have to use the patch it? Simple Resource Editor?
  10. Install the Windows Performance Toolkit (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/4847.install-the-windows-performance-toolkit-wpt.aspx), open the command prompt with admin rights (http://superuser.com/questions/497252/how-to-access-the-administrator-command-prompt-in-windows-8). Run this command and capture the issues: xperf -on latency+ALL_FAULTS++FOOTPRINT+VIRT_ALLOC+MEMINFO+VAMAP+REFSET+MEMINFO_WS -stackwalk profile+HardFault+PagefaultTransition+PagefaultDemandZero+PagefaultCopyOnWrite+PagefaultGuard+PagefaultHard+PagefaultAV -buffersize 1024 -MaxFile 2048 -FileMode Circular && timeout -1 && xperf -d Pagefaulttrace.etl If you have enough data, press a key to stop tracing. zip the Pagefaulttrace.etl as 7z/RAR (to reduce the size), upload it (OneDrive, Dropbox) and send me the link via PM..
  11. reading the hiberfile.sys takes a long time (752 seconds): hiberread="752062000" Please apply the Performance restauration Firmware to your Samsung SSD 840 EVO 500G: https://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/minisite/SSD/global/html/support/downloads.html Does this improve it?
  12. @aphelion can you share the theme? It looks nice
  13. ok, looks like a manifest file is corrupted: run the already posted DISM command to repair the file.
  14. This is likely caused by a missing C++ Runtime. Run the Command prompt (cmd.exe) with admin rights and run this command: SxsTrace Trace -logfile:SxsTrace.etlNow run the programm which causes the SideBySide error. Go back to the command prompt press ENTER to generate the SxsTrace.etl. Now type this: sxstrace Parse -logfile:SxSTrace.etl -outfile:SxSTrace.txtNow open the SxSTrace.txt trace and look which VC++ runtime is missing. If you are unsure, please upload the complete SxSTrace.txt and post a link here.
  15. don't use CCleaner. No one needs it. repair Windows with an Inplace upgrade and now install the Rollup.
  16. you still have the prnekcl2.inf issue. Try the steps that Dave posted
  17. this time prnekcl2.inf is the issue. Run the DISM command posted by NoelC
  18. @Dave-H copy the folder C:\Windows\logs\CBS to the desktop, zip the folder and upload the zip (Dropbox, OneDrive) and post a link here.
