98 FE + 98 SE + ME updates + patches + (hot)fixes
the_guy replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
MDGx, Petr sent me the 260710, 268356, 277784, 278368, and the 304082 updates. These updates are not on that list. Would you like them sent to you? You already have the 272620 and the 314417 updates posted. the_guy -
Ok, I will use that version for alpha2. I am using a 2000 computer to make the service pack. Expect a new version this weekend. the_guy

I have decided not to update the adaptec aspi to 4.71a2. It will stay as 4.6. As for Metapad, I will probably include 3.51. As for the unofficial updates, I will add them (as an option) the_guy

I'm considering the crypt files. I don't have all of the files, but that shouldn't be too hard. I will add the deskw95.cpl and the enhtrig.dll files in the next version (coming in the next week). There are also some other things I will be changing: -Removal of metapad.exe -Updating Adaptec ASPI to 4.71a2 -Updating 891711 to U891711 -Removal of 2000 theme -Addition of Unofficial updates-???? -Switching to the .bat file Petr suggested to Gape (to use for cab files) Anyway, here is the first version reposted (yousendit ran out) mesp202-a1.exe.html the_guy

@Petr: I only have one of the files you said. I have the same version of cdfs.vxd. All of the others I do not have. If you have them, please email them to me. (pm me for it) @all: I have the file. It is at YouSendIt. Please test it as vividly as possible. the_guy

Hey all, I have decided to make a service pack for ME. It will be like any unofficial update at MDGx's site, meaning you have to disable sr/sfp. I have a couple of questions: 1. Would anyone be able to have a look at it to test it out? 2. How would I make a silent installer for au like Gape made for the roots update? This pack is already made, awaiting uploading at rapidshare (to be hopefully uploaded at softpedia and/or majorgeeks). It includes the updates MDGx posted this morning as well. Comments are appreciated/wanted Changelog for latest version: -Included patched shdoclc.dll (buggy .htm files) -Included patched vgx.dll (VML flaw from MS06-055) -Rolled back jscript.dll, vbscript.dll and wshom.ocx to version 5.6.0.8832 -fixed qfecheck.exe and 918047un.inf bugs -Removed metapad. Added unofficial notepad fix. -Added 920213. Replaces 890046. Does work on Windows ME. -Added fixes for dialing rules -Added Q931836 -Added shell32.dll from unofficial shell32.dll fix -Added 827078/926047. Replaces 314147. Does work on Windows ME. -Added strmdll.dll from 925398. Replaces wmp 6.4 version. -Updated rootsupd.exe to unofficial version -Updated msasn1.dll to version included in 891861 (replaces 835732 version) -Added riched20.dll from 920816. Replaces 872978 version -Removed Q329128 (for MDAC 2.5 SP3) Download links are here (English, Not yet uploaded), here (French, B5v2) - Thanks WebMatze and here (Italian, B7) - Thanks Max_04. the_guy UPDATE 23/07/2006: Might as well put a link into the first post, that way people aren't digging for it. Also added link to french version (thanks WebMatze) UPDATE 15/08/2006: Added download link for b6 in English. UPDATE 11/03/2007: Added links/changelog for b8.

The new one will probably be. It is installed with this, and it is the same version. the_guy

If you have the zip folder feature from ME, use the files from the 329048 update. It uses the required files, but in a newer version. A suggestion would be to try to add the Welcome Screen and Fast User switching. the_guy

Gurgelmeyer, I have found the modified version of explorer.exe. It is attached as a file ready to go on a cd. You will need to run expand explorer.ex_ explorer.exe to make it a regular version. Please download with care. It is the same version as the one included with the USP50. the_guy explorer.zip

892313 has an even later version. 891122 is the windows media 10 codecs. ZenMystic forgot to take wmfdist.exe out of the 891122 file. the_guy

First of all Microsoft Word is not part of Microsoft Works. It is part of Microsoft Office. He probably means Work Suite, and if he does, then yes it is. Works Suite 2000 and 2001 include Microsoft Word 2000 and Works Suite 2002 includes Office XP. the_guy

Gurgelmeyer, I have a cd kicking around with the patched version of explorer.exe. It is the same version number, just patched for 256 color icons. If I can find the CD, I'll attach that file.

It's ok. I must have typed the URL wrong or something.

You can get the office update cab at:http://office.microsoft.com/officeupdate/content/opuc3.cab.
-
Just go to v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog and the office update web site. They will install the files on their own.

Q891711 + U891711 = Unofficial MS07-017 + MS05-002 .ANI fix

erpdude8, You do not need to remove the microsoft update before installing this one. This update is like a v3 for the microsoft update. You didn't need to uninstall v1 before you installed v2. I have tried this on a 98se machine and on a ME m,achine, and they both work perfect. the_guy -

I too found that out, erpdude. What you need to do is extract the files and install the update using the install command after right-clicking the .inf file. -

MDGx, I am pleased to report that this update also works on Windows ME. You also apply it like a normal update, you don't need to kill stmgr using coolkill. Just installed it on a virtual pc and it works. Maybe you could pass that on to the author and modify the installer so it installs on ME. the_guy -
Good job FDV. Just curious though, how hard would it be to do this in Windows XP/2K3? Is it the exact same steps or is it a lot harder? the_guy
-
That only works on 2000/XP.

I remember this blue screen TOO well. Reinstalling windows will not help. The problem turned out to be a bad memory stick. Then again, that was XP, so it might be different. The computer also gave pointless errors. the_guy

WMP 10 will not work in 2000. Microsoft made it so you couldn't use it, no matter what. There are too many dependencies not found in 2000 files that are in XP files. You might have meant WMP 9?? the_guy

I have just redone the 896688 patch. Another thing I should point out is that I've seen on http://erpman1.tripod.com/iewmpupd.html is that any IE 5.5 SP2 update after 867801 will break IE and windows. Just thought you should know. the_guy
-
I have just repackaged the IE 5.5 SP2 896688 and the 904706 DX8 Update. The main purpose of the 896688 update is so it will install on versions of windows that aren't ME. The reason for the Update for DX8 is so the update can install directly on 95. ie55sp2-896688.exe.htm DX8-904706.exe.html the_guy

Ok. I just looked at vorck.com (fdv's site) and this update has files that aren't in the rollup. .Thank you. Thank you. I will add these. This is replaced by 905749. Thanks. Will be added in the IE 6 zone. That's messed. I'll add it with that reminder. thanks, the_guy
