  1. zup peeps, nav2k4 users should now what I am talking about. Every time you download a file or something NAV will usually way that "XYZ program is waiting for Norton to scan abc.qrs file". This window pops up above the system clock. Is there a way to dissable this scanning feature? thkz
  2. **** now i am all confused!?!?! I downloaded the regular ntfs version, not the PRO version. the only files that come in the zip are ntfsdos.exe ntfshlp.vxd <-for Win95 use readme.txt the only file that I assume I should add to that boot image is the ntfsdos.exe file and add the line "ntfsdos.exe" write after the "cls" command in the autoexec.bat of the boot image.
  3. prathapml you there? can you confirm my steps? thkz
  4. just 1 more thing! this is the autoexec.bat that is on the CD (i am using the systemworks BOOTIMG.BIN) Where do I add the the info for the ntfs app? I was looking at the switches and I dont believe I have to use them, ntfs should auto mount any drive it finds as a FAT32 drive right? I was thinking that It might go right after the "cls" command on the beginning of the file =-=-=-=-=-=-=- cls ntfsdos.exe <--right here isgbpart if errorlevel 1 goto gb_detected =-=-=-=-=-=-=- Your thoughts??!!?
  5. zup peeps, So I am in the market for a DVDRW that is not going to burn a hole in my pocket....yes i know they are not that expensive nowadays but it still makes a dent. I was looking at the DVDRW's that TigerDirect sells and they have a KHypermedia with the following speeds for $59.99 (no rebates to mail out!) DVD+R 8X DVD-R 8X DVD+RW 4X DVD-RW 4X CD-R 40X CDRW 24X It beats a SONY S167-3240 ($79.99) and Toshiba P34-2018 ($49.99 after $30) in price and speeds I am really leaning towards this KHypermedia brand but it's one of those mom&pops kinda brands. Any recommendations? thkz ceez
  6. prathapml, you da' man! thkz for your assistance and knowledge. I will definitely give it a try. I was trying to open up 2 image files located on the root of the CD but WinISO could not open them, gave an error message. thkz again! ceez
  7. prathapml you're info is a little over my head. can you please explain all that embedding, switches and autoexec stuff? how would you do it?
  8. Since this topic has changed from the original post.....I am putting my vote in for Virtual PC.... I've had no probs at all with it and runs any windows flavor that I throw in it!
  9. zup peeps, earlier this week or so i was wondering how i could boot up with the NAV CD and be able to do a virus scan using the latest virus definitions and not the original one's that were placed in the CD during production. Well I found this article on symantec that shows you how to do it if you're using FAT32, but it doesnt show you if you're running NTFS. I have yet to try it on my pc that has NTFS but when i do i'll post my results (if youve tried it let us know too! ) SYMANTEC ARTICLE. Laterz ceez
  10. awesome work jjn1056, thkz for the info. I was able to unattendedly install only the base eccd app and the dragtodisc feature! I just created an install.bat with the following: e:\SETUP.EXE /s /v"/qr ADDLOCAL=ECDC6,CreatorApps,DragToDisc REBOOT=Suppress REBOOTPROMPT=S" worked like a charm. now to place it in the CD!!!
  11. zup peeps, I am setting up a lab system with 2k pro and server in the same machine. I have an old 8gigger with two 4gig partitions. I already installed 2k pro on the first partition. How do I about to install 2kserver? Do I just boot up with the CD and install it on the 2nd 4gig partition? Any way of doing this without a boot manager? Thanks for the help ceez
  12. thkz for the reply prathapml, but how exactly would i do this? Can someone explain
  13. Zup peeps, As some of you might know, if you boot up with a systemworks or nortonAV cd it prompts to do a virus scan in DOS mode. My question is how can I use that feature with an updated virus definition?!?! thkz
  14. it's probably one of those many SP2 bugs.....cant wait for SP3 to fix the probs from SP2!!! try google-ing for sp2 problems.
  15. i think ghost and roxio have the same features.
  16. lol.... I also tell them not to click on anything that comes up for no reason that asks them to decide YES or NO or to accept a download when they are not downloading anything....yet....they are mouse clicking happy! Maybe if I just get rid of the mouse!!!!...............
  17. wrong forum dude.
  18. kinda like what happened to ropera but the tray didnt "explode". The CDROM started making a funky noise then a shatter sound followed by noises of pieces spinning in the drive and then silence....to my shock, I was able to open the CD tray to find out that the CD had shattered inside the CDROM....needless to say I immediately replaced it (the CDROM that is!)
  19. holy crap! you hit your head on the nail...or is it the nail on the head! as long as there are enough people out there trying really hard to re-do what man has created they will be able to destroy it (I am talking reverse enginering of course). Just because they are they giants they are proned to the attacks and constant abuse of "EVIL-DO'ERS" (Bush's favorite line ). I bet that if Linux, firefox, etc was bigger then they would be prone to the attacks. I guess we dont give MS enough credit since our minds are manipulated by the media!
  20. I would just like to express my disgust towards spam....I HATE IT WITH A PASSION! A month ago my uncle's PC got infected with it and instead of wiping out the pc for a 3rd time in a year i decided to try to get rid of those pesky things....man it's time consuming. Being that he's my uncle I took my time and had his PC in my house for a whole week trying to figure it all out....from what apps to use, which one cleans what, what's on the startup, what's on the registry, what cant be deleted from the registry cause' it "regenerates" itself, and why in the hell can HE be more carefull. Fine, I receive a call from a previous customer of mine (on the side job to fix pc's! ) and tells me that she cant browse when she logs in to AOL (dialup) because she gets pop up heaven which slows down her net (again, dialup!). So I figure, fine I've learned the way of the JEDI in using the right apps and cleaning a PC filled with junk, I am no longer a young PADAWAN... So I get there; installed AdawareSE & spybot.....Adaware found 737 freaking threats on her machine....WHO THE HELL IS THAT CARELESS?!?!?....oh I forgot....USERS!!!! Then spybot found some more, then cwshredder found a home page registry issue, then hijackthis still showed some reg entries that wouldnt go away, then the apps would find more stuff if scanned in safe mode, updated norton with latest definitions and it would not find viruses or trojans (btw, I hate their trojan adware detection, hope they fix it with NAV2k5). Eventually somehow, 4 hours later I was able to get everything out of that system...and AOL dialup was back to heaven (if you can say the word HEAVEN and DIALUP in the same sentence! ). Needless to say I was there from 5:30p to 9:00p on a monday night, stressed out, couldnt really say "hey let me take the PC to my house", and missed the 1st half of the Marlins game (GO FISH!). Then I feel compelled in charging her about 100 bones for the ordeal because she's referred people to me and I get home all frustrated to only catch the last 3 innings of the FISH game (at least we won 6-4 to NYM!). *SIGH* So that's it, just a little venting brought to you by spyware and adaware, "if you think that spyware is right for you then ask your doctor about it!" Thanks for reading, Ceez
  21. thkz for your input guys. unfortunately it's not a spyware or virus issue.... his pc is clean, not spy/adware or virus. i've got it tip-top shape. I even ran an sfc /scannow to see if it was some sort of corrupt windows file but that didnt work either. any other ideas?! thkz guys
  22. takuma2004, what you have heard/read is correct. but this works with windows explorer. If you set windows explorer to open new folders in new windows then instead of having to click on the "X" on all the windows, you can simply hold down Shift and click on the "X" of just one window and they will all close. Double click my computer, select tools-folder options- and in the general tab under browse folder select "open each folder in it's own window. click ok, now give it a try. I think this was back for win95 and i believe NT when it didnt have an option to open the folders in the same window.
  23. I figured it out!!! I entered the entries in the system and exported it. The reason it did not add the other entries was because I needed a \\ between the paths.... before Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment] "BRD_ROOT"="G:" "BRD_SILDIR"="G:\SIL" "PLB_PATH"="G:\;G:\PROGRAMS;G:\DATA;G:\COMMANDS" "PLB_SYSTEM"="G:\COMMANDS" "PLB_TERM"="ANSI" "PLBWIN_ICON"="G:\BRD.ICO" after Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Control\Session Manager\Environment] "BRD_ROOT"="G:" "BRD_SILDIR"="G:\\SIL" "PLB_PATH"="G:\\;G:\\PROGRAMS;G:\\DATA;G:\\COMMANDS" "PLB_SYSTEM"="G:\\COMMANDS" "PLB_TERM"="ANSI" "PLBWIN_ICON"="G:\\BRD.ICO" see what I mean? go figure. Bâshrat the Sneaky, I'll look into that exe that you posted. might work for something in the future. Thanks MCT, jrzycrim & Bâshrat the Sneaky
  24. well i for sure wasnt going to think of that one! I will do that and since we always use the same apps in every system we setup it should be an issue since it's writing the same paths....right? jrzycrim thkz again for your time....it's 2:00am time to hit the pillow....i'll check in tomorrow THKZ!
  25. well i created a batch and added that line, ran it and then get this on the cmd box C:\Documents and Settings\Tessa\Desktop>PATH C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\WINDOWS;C:\W INDOWS\System32\Wbem;"C:\Program Files\Norton SystemWorks\Norton Ghost\";C:\Prog ram Files\Symantec\pcAnywhere\;G:\COMMANDS looks great....but not on the system properties......**** THIS SYSTEM PROPERTIES WINDOW!!!! If I cant get those in there I will have to try this on a system and if it all works without the visualization issue then I will have to educate everyone of this new automated change that doesnt add the variables in the system properties... jrzycrim, you've given me excellent options....any last thoughts!?!?!?! Man I love forums!!! i didnt read this line, thanks!!!
