  1. turbomcp, here's my sysprep file *note: [sysprep] and [sysprepmassstorage] was added to the file after encountering another prob explained below, will test this tomorrow* I had to end up copying the i386 folder to C:\ and changing InstallFilesPath=C:\sysprep\i386 TO InstallFilesPath=C:\ this way it looks for that *.nls file and anyother files on C:\. but why would sysprep need to look for any files if it's default KB and regional settings!!! again, when using setupmngr i leave the default settings which is US. I was able to test the sysprep today at work. I installed Windows, configured it to our liking and installed all our software. I ran sysprep with the following switches -reseal -activated -mini. The PC shutdown, booted with a ghost CD, created image of the drive. once completed we loaded it onto a different machine, as soon as we got past the DELL post screen we just got a black screen and it would not go anywhere. I googled the prob and found that by adding: it might help the situation, something about building the mass-storage on the machine. I've read the deploy.chm file that comes with the support tool but it seems a bit iffy. Now I am waiting for tomorrow so we can try it out again with these 2 new entries in the sysprep.inf file any thoughts on a black screen without reaching windowsXP at all? thkz and hope I was able to explain this correctly. ceez ps- the host image came from a dell precision 340 and we're loading it on an older dell optiplex GX110
  2. gtaylor, thkz for the relpy.... I am leaving the default settings (US). Isn't it not supposed to ask for files if it's the default settings? thkz for the feedback! ceez
  3. it's unattended...in a different way if posting in wrong forum please move... so here it goes.... zup peeps! I am learning to use sysprep (WinXP_Pro). We want to be able to use it's capabilities along with Ghost corp ed @ work. we want to have just a few images and not 40 gigs worth of them!!! I've done alot of reading today and I am able to create the sysprep.inf file to my liking and run sysprep.exe with the following switches: -reboot -reseal -activated -factory Everything works fine and sysprep actually goes through the process and windows loads, but just before sysprep starts (after the reboot) I get the a window asking to insert the WinXP CD because it needs a file (the only one I see is c_20127.nls, which is actually c_20127.nl_ in the CD!). I dont know if there are other files it requires since once you give it the path to the CD it copies whatever other files it needs. So does anyone know why it would require these files? I've tried it at work on a test pc and I am currently trying it at home on Virtual PC which gave me the same file request. At work I also received a DLL error message at the end of the sysprep process, right before it reboots so it can start windows, (i'll post that one tomorrow! ) I've read a bunch of articles and none mention anything about copying files. Any thoughts? Thkz ceez
  4. thkz for the link but it doesnt tell me much about it! I'll try trendmicro's housecall when i get home today and see if it picks it up.
  5. Zup peeps!? I was going through my startup via the registry when i noticed the following entry: C:\windows\system32\netdaemon /v Does anyone know what this is? I do use Daemon Tools but I doubt this has anything to do with it. I googled the issue and I find some sites that say that it kills spyware & adware detection programs! I ran MS Antispyware and it detected some junk but not this netdaemon demon! I delete it from the registry and it comes back up after I reboot or I logoff/logon. That's usually how viruses act up! Can anyone shed some light on this one? and if anyone can help with a hijackthis log, well here's mine: thkz a bunch! Ceez
  6. LOL!!! There's a lesson to be learned here! BE PATIENT!!!
  7. @ SwedenXP & prathapml, that's exactly what I was looking for! THKZ!!!
  8. Zup peeps, I've seen a member post a link for a reg snap shot app and I cant seem to find it. I've searched the unattended forum and even the whole forum with no avail. I've seen it before while searching for other reg settings, but this time around it's playing hard 2 get! please show me the way!?!?! thkz ceez
  9. zup peeps, I know that I can apply the gateway and dns via unattended method, but I was wondering if there's a registry that I can make what will insert those ip's. I searched but everyone seems to recommend unattended method. thkz
  10. @Yzöwl, I'll give them a try sometime today, but what's up with the dangerous levels? DEFCON 5!!!! this is what my reg entry shows, and I have it unticked on my pc (not virtual pc right now, that will be later! ) [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ContentIndex\Catalogs\System\Scopes] "C:\\Documents and Settings"=",,5" "C:\\"=",,5" "C:\\Documents and Settings\\*\\Application Data\\*"=",,4" "C:\\Documents and Settings\\*\\Local Settings\\*"=",,4"
  11. Thkz for the reply peeps, yes I've been following the guide....it's evolved quite a bit since it's beginnings. I created the cmdlines.txt and regtweak.reg files and placed it where it says on the guide. But my confusion is the following now: Will the CURRENT USER setting be applied globaly to all users at T-12 or is this part of the guide only for the LOCAL MACHINE reg entries? Thkz again.
  12. So dont do the reg file, instead winnt.sif?!? correct? This way it will boot up without the check mark? in regards to the HKEY's So If I want to make all my reg entries global to all the users that are logged into the pc then I should use HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Should I change all of my regtweaks to display HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ? ie: If I want to disable balloon tips for every user ever created in XP then the following key would not work cause' it's using CURRENT USER and not LOCAL MACHINE? ;Disable Balloon Tips [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced] "EnableBalloonTips"=dword:00000000 Are some reg entries specific to only CURRENT USER or will chaging them affect them and not work? thkz again, ceez
  13. zup peeps, I usually disable the indexing serive by going into the properties of my C:\ drive and unchecking "Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching". When I run the following reg key, the check is still there but the service is disabled (which is what is supposed to do! ) ;Disable Indexing Service [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\cisvc] "Start"=dword:00000004 Do I still have to manually uncheck it? Thanks ceez ONE MORE THING! So I dont create a 2nd post, what is the different between a reg entry that says HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE? & HKEY_CURRENT_USER? thkz again!
  14. well i guess i am screwed, i already tried their uninstaller. I couldnt even get it directly from their website, some error message popped up. I had to google the exe's name and download it from a forum where someone else was trying to remove the darn thing!
  15. any other suggestions? That sounds like some lame spyware loaded wanna be cleaner!
  16. Zup peeps, My dad's pc has what I believe is called the lop.com tool bar. It's a blue toolbar that appears underneath explorer which is about the size of a double sized taskbar, and on the top of IE it has a silver search buttons. I've tried everything, even the uninstaller from lop.com but it doesnt do anything for me. It still appears. Adware and spyware is not new to me and I am pretty good at cleaning systems out, but this one is a hard one. I even tried google and most of the forums are "i cant remove this", or "I had to reformat my drive". I am trying to avoid the 2nd one!!!! Has anyone encountered such monster? thkz ceez
  17. well i'll be damned....that was it Unfortunately a small 600kb gif just threw my cpu process 100 percent! i guess active desktop does suck! thkz.
  18. where do i create the html file? I pasted the image in word and saved it as an html file and it did not work. Do you have another way of doing it? maybe i am doing something wrong... WinxpPRO go to display properties desktop customize desktop "web" tab click new where it says to add a webpage or pic.... click browse and select my gif image (either as filename.gif OR filename.htm). click ok make sure the path to the gif file is checked click ok to close ok to close display properties nothing Is there an additional step to this? thkz
  19. Zup peeps! I have a small animated gif that I would like to play on my desktop. I activated "Active desktop" but it would not animate. Any thoughts? thkz CEez
  20. ok delete this post....i figured it out! I was forgetting to configure the remote connection to the pc I was connecting to! thkz anyways! ceez
  21. well I searched the linksys site and found the following: linksys that's what I am trying but it doesnt seem to work! Anyone has every achived such connections? thkz again! ceez
  22. Hello, Ok, so the topic title is a bit vague, but I'll try to explain. When I remotely connect to an office that has more than 1 pc, I have to load pcanywhere on the host pc that I just connected to and launch pcanywhere from that pc so I can then connect to the other pc's in that office. This creates lag. I was wondering if there's a way that as soon as I connect to that office I get a connection list so I can choose which PC I want to remote instead of piggy backing from one PC to the others. Any ideas? thkz ceez
  23. thkz peeps, I'll look into that import feature....why didnt i think of that! duh!!! laterz
