great, I just learned something new. Thkz for the info guys, I'll give it a try and report back THKZ!!! edit: ARGH! unable to expand the file.... cmd says that expand is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. (do i have to d/l this expand command from somewhere?!?!?) The expand command should work the following way: expand c:\sfc_os.dl_ c:\WFP\ (the dl_ file is saved on C: ) It just doesnt wanna work!!!! why - oh - why?!?!? I am following an example of how to use the expand command but for a different file: Expand d:\i386\hal.dl_ c:\windows\system32\hall.dll PROBLEM FIXED!!!! The expand command is an executable found in the Windows CD under the I386 folder called expand.exe. I just copied it to C: and I was able to expand the files! Thkz for the help and hope this helps

zup peeps, I created an unattended install which install without a glitch. unfortunately the only problem is this sfc junk! I downloaded the sfc_os.dl_ file from the unattended guide renamed the extension to .dll and replaced the one already installed in the pc %systemdrive%\system32 and created the reg file to disable sfc. I did both steps in safe mode. When I reboot windows gives and error that sfc_os.dll is not a valid windows image file! What the heck?!!??! Can I not use the *.dl_ file once windows has been installed? I have to create another CD and replace the dll (or use nlite!). I've also tried doing the hexadecimal fixes but doesnt matter what free hex prog I use i cant find the 'offsets', I search for it and nothing happens or at least doesn't specifically tell me where the offset is. I am using XP SP2. The version of the dll is 5.1.2600.2180. Thkz for the help ceez

@bledd, We tried the BCC field but it comes up blank in the TO: section If you send it by just putting it in the TO: field then the recipient can expand the distribution list and see who the email was sent to
-
Zup peeps, I have a user that has a distribution list with about 50 emails. When she send the email the recipient does not see their own name in the TO: field of the email, it's just blank. The user who's sending the email wants the recipient to be able to see their name on the TO: field instead of the empty space or a distribution name. Is there any way that this can be done? I hope I was able to explain this correctly! Thkz ceez

thkz for the reply... the machine is as clean as a whistle.....it has symantec corp and running ms antispyware. I should of given all of this info on the 1st post.... I can ctrl-alt-del and there are no out of wack processes, just your regular running ones. The system seems to be just fine while idling. No apps are open. any other ideas??!?

Zup peeps!?! I have a problem with one XP SP2 PC at work. The computer is freezing whenever the user wants to shutdown. When you go to start-shut down the computer just hangs. As soon as you click on shut down the start bar goes away (not the taskbar, the start bar with run, settings, prog files, etc..) You then cannot click on anything. You cant right click or left click on anything on the screen. Per the use it takes about 5 minutes and then the "what do you want the computer to do" screen pops up allowing him to select shutdown and click [ok]. I was working in this PC last week upgrading to sp2 and I had no problems shutting down the system. User says this started happening out of the blue. thkz ceez

sorry...we are creating a master image, sysprep-ing it and then using ghost to image other pc's with the master image.
-
zup peeps! I am creating a master image at work which will have all the dell drivers for all our precision pc's in the office. The folders are located in c:\dell\drivers\audio c:\dell\drivers\video c:\dell\drivers\nic Within each folder there will be more folder for each type of device, ie: intel pro100, broadcom, intelpro1000, 3com, etc... I would just like windows to point to those folders in case it doesnt find any drivers in the drivers.cab. Maybe just point to C:\Dell\drivers\ and then windows will just look through all the folder by itself. any thoughts? thkz ceez

*bump* any sysprep'ers in here!?!?!
-
ok peeps, so i am reaching the end of the rope when trying to figure out sysprep2.0 with xp sp2... I was just wondering if anyone here in their organizations have been successful in creating a master image using sysprep that works on most of their relatively same hardware desktop using ghost corp? I know how to create the sysprep.inf image, configure the inf to our liking and build the mass storage device section (-bmsd switch). We use Dell Precision Workstation PC's with IDE drives, all uniprocessor pc's (P4's) and they are all ACPI (they all poweroff when shutting down Win) The only thing I have not done is include the drivers in the sysprep file because when you do a clean install of WinXP SP2 on any of the PC's 99% of the time all the drivers are installed, and if mini setup needed a drive it would prompt you for the path DURING the mini setup. Since I am reaching the end of the rope.....that's what I am trying tomorrow....adding drivers to my sysprep.inf file....fun! :ba-humbug: When I load a sysprep image on a different PC it either: A- goes straight to the boot menu (safe mode, last known good, etc...) or B- it does not get past the "please wait" GUI portion of sysprep. If I select safe mode it gets stuck on the agpcpq.sys file. Doesnt matter what route I take I hit a wall! I've tried creating images from older systems...P3's GX110's and even from 1 PC that's a XEON beast.....no luck when I load those images on other Dells! So if you have experienced the joy of sysprep, please throw me a freakin' bone here! Very much appreciated! Ceez : PS - I am attaching my sysprep.inf for review.
-
@ pauledavey, just curious, were you able to get sysprep to work? I am trying to incorporate sysprep with our ghost images but I get stuck on the bootup options...safe mode, last known good, etc... If you get it to work please let me know what you're doing/using. i'd appreciate it!

cool, thats something new i didnt know! man i love this board!! do you know what ports are used? all pc's are XP in a domain. this will allow me to connect to the machine and download the appropriate drivers???
-
Hey peeps, I was wondering if there's some sort of software which can remotely connect to pc's on a network and retrieve the drivers from that machine. Maybe some sort of MS console snap-in?!??! I want to collect drivers for about 6 different dell precision wrkstn models that we have at work and going through the dell site and figuring out the various drivers they have just for one device is time consuming. Kinda like a software called "my drivers" which collects drivers on your local pc, but this one is for network use.... anyone? thkz ceez

ms antispyware has replaced all the spyware tools i used to use (or carry around in my usb drive!) the beta is still free and works perfectly. I read somewhere that they might keep it free even when it's released. And for those who keep on saying "use firefox or opera", cry me a river! Some people just gotta learn how to surf smart! hmmm...there lies the problem...smart!!
-
dimegrind, thkz for the reply. We are in a domain, I am not the admin of it (just the desktop support guy!!), but would you know exactly how or where to do this? thkz again.
-
Zup peeps! Good morning (eastern time!) I was wondering if there's a way to change the background of windows xp when a user locks his pc (windows key+L). It shows the default background. Is there a way to personalize it? We want to be able to display a company logo. In the meanwhile, I'll keep google-ing!!! Thkz!

Symantec Corp, Change From Unmanaged To Managed...
ceez replied to ceez's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
awesome ravashaak!!! all i could find was what i said on the first post which also mentioned moving that file, I just didnt wanna do it since it didnt specify exactly what I needed. Apparently the grc.dat file does the trick!!! Thkz!!! -
zup peeps! hopefully someone knows the answer to this. At work we use images to deploy pc's and one of the apps we leave out is Symantec Corp AV, the reason being that when we image the pc's are in workgroups, we later add them to the domain. Then when we join them we install the AV and choose "managed". Is there a way that I can change this from unmanaged to managed w.out having to reinstall the app or wait to join domain? I've searched symantec KB but all I find is how to move from one parent server to another parent server. thkz

lol.... that's the lovely chest of one of the 2004 hooter girls calendar!!! I was testing out the zoom on the digital camera....you should see the full 1024*768!!! but going back to the batch.... so when there are spaces like the "local settings" folder, I just ignore the space and type it out "locals~1". this would apply to any other folder similar to local settings? thkz
-
zup peeps! I am trying to run a simple batch that will delete my temp internet files under "C:\Documents and Settings\ceez\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files" The problem is that it cant get past the "Local Settings" folder. I write my batch like this: del C:\Docume~1\ceez\Local ~1\Tempor~1\*.* The space between local & settings kills me, I type \Local[space]~1\, how can I get around the space? thkz ceez

Zup peeps! At work we use MS Project. We have Project 2002 full and Project 2003 upgrade. During the install process it asks us to remove the 2003 and pop in the full 2002 so it can verify that we own that version. Then we need to take 2002 out and insert 2003 again.... In a world of slipstreaming and sorts this seems like a waste of time (and automating it would be more fun! So does anyone know how to do this or a website that might help me out? thkz ceez ps- auto inserting the serial# would also be a good thing too!!!
