Hey there fellow MSFN'rs....!!! When I login to my PC the c:\windows\system32\ folder opens up. I have no idea how to stop this from happening. I've checked my RUN registry keys, msconfig, and startup folder for my profile and all users but do not find anything that will prompt this to open up. I've checked the windows settings under windowsexplorer options and IE options but nothing that relates to opening some sort of windows at logon. any ideas? thanks for the help! ceez

man i had a difficult time trying to understand what you typed, but have you tried reinstalling outlook express? that fixes most OE issues. goto: start -> run type "appwiz.cpl" (no quotes) click windows components (button on left side) scroll down and uncheck outlook express hit next reboot when finished do the same steps above to re-install.

hey peeps, I was wondering if anyone knows why a simple mpeg will not play on wmp9 but will play on the divx player, these files are not divx, just regular mpeg format. When i open the file it either shows "playing" on the bottom but the time bar does not move OR I get the audio with no video. I installed a video codec but that didnt seem to work out. any ideas? any recomended codec pack? thanks, ceez

i guess that's why it is still a beta. i might just try reinstalling it again and see what happens Maybe something screwy happened during install...it took me about 2 hours to install on a 1.5mhz athlon xp.

lol... heck if a 128 and 256 mb vid cant run longhorn then what will!?!?! I even downloaded the ATI drivers for longhorn (vista) beta, it doesnt list my card but I tried anyways....no luck installing those drivers Anyone else has encountered this problem, how can I (we) solve it? thkz for your help, ceez

Hey there peeps. I installed Vista on a 2nd drive and I am dual booting.... I tried using MSVPC but I cant even get past "select which drive to install windows onto" section... my prob is that I was able to install it but it's very very choppy. The mouse jumps and moving windows is just as bad. I am a 1.5athlonXP, 640ram, 65mb radeon card.... should be able to meet its medium standard of installation requirements. I checked the device manager and the vid driver is installed. I even changed the theme from aero to classic windows but no luck. Any ideas on how to get aound this problem? thkz ceez

I just wanted to know if there's an easy way to add trusted sites to ie6 via a reg key. We have 100 pc's that we have to add a few trusted sites to and it would be so much easier to have the users double click a reg key instead of sitting on each pc and go through the process Thanks, ceez

I googled "transparent icon labels" and this was the 1st result.... Transparent Icon Labels Posted Jan. 27 By Ciam Sawyer, Expert Zone Web site producer Take a look at your desktop. Do the labels on your icons have a colored box around them, or are they "transparent?" I've been asked this particular question by more customers than I can count. Fortunately, it's an easy issue to fix, just not very intuitive. There are two settings to check. First, make sure Web Items on the desktop are unlocked. Right-click on the desktop, point to Arrange Icons By, then make sure Lock Web Items on Desktop is unchecked. That alone might solve the problem. If it doesn't, there is one other setting to change. On the Desktop, right-click on My Computer, then click Properties. In the System Properties dialog, click the Advanced tab. Under Performance, click Settings. On the Visual Effects tab, make sure Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop is selected. Click Ok, then click Ok again. Now your icon labels will show a small drop shadow and no colored box.

Zup peeps? I was channel surfing when I ended up in the home shopping network (HSN). They were selling the Mustek PVR-H140. They are either great sellers or this product seems like a good one. As I understand it comes with a 40gig drive, you can copy pics, mp3's and record audio/vid from tv, dvd, etc... And it only cost about $300.00. I've been thinking about getting something like an ipod, but this one seems better than one....it even has a color screen. So if you have one then what is your review? Thkz!

@ Zxian, I've patched the uxtheme.dll months ago. I had 1 theme and have not used it in a long while. I resorted back to the xp theme. All of a sudden I turned on my pc and had the win2k look and was not able to resort to the xp one. weird.

Zxian, you are correct winXP. Sorry I wanst specific.... I am posting on the windows xp forum!?!?! The service was started and automatic. I even restarted the service, no luck. The options are: windows xp windows classic my current theme more themes online browse I even browsed to c:\windows\resources\themes\ and selected the luna theme but no change. argh!

firefox, it didnt work man this is weird. I dont mind the 2k looking taskbar but i'd like to figure this one out! any other ideas?!?! thkz

hey there every1, for some reason my windows xp theme (greet start, blue taskbar) is gone, I have the regular win2k theme. It's listed under themes on the display properties but it doesnt apply it. Is there a way of reinstalling this theme without a windows repair. Thanks Ceez

Zup peeps!?!? My friend was attempting to create a default profile for all users. Apparently he did something and now the Programs folder group is blank, there's nothing there. Is there a way to rebuild it without having to reinstall XP? Thkz

@soulin, thkz for the info, found robocopy and it has an exclude option which i could use for the foldes, but if new folders are created then I would have to tweak the batch file every time. I will give it a try anyways, Any other ideas? Thkz again, ceez PS- i cant even get it to work, the command just scrolls down the cmd prompt non-stop. this is what I am testing. C:\A <- folder has source files and folders C:\B <- destination folder for everything in A (including the folders for now) Using the followin in my batch: robocopy c:\a\*.* c:\b\ pause exit When I run it all I get is the command scrolling down and nothing gets copied, it's not a lot of files either. help. PS 2 - I just found out that the copy command apprently DOES NOT copy directories. I just tried the above commands but used "copy" and when I checked the B folder it had all the files an no dirs...cool.... well that seems to be the end of my mission. thkz

Zup peeps!? I want to create a batch file that copies files from a directory but does not copy folders from that directory. I checked the xcopy & copy command options with the /? switch but they dont say anything about not copying dirs. Is it possible? Thkz ceez

Zup peeps, I had no other way of explaining the toolbar issue on the topic title but this is what's happening... I have the google, adobe, norton, roboform & webster bar. If I want to enable the roboform toolbar and I select it from the drop down menu (right click on the IE munu) then the adobe toolbar will show up instead. Or if I select the webster the google will dissappear. Is there a way to sync them up without having to reinstall them? thkz ceez

1 more post.... Which sfc file do I replace? Do I replace sfc.dll OR sfc_os.dll under system32? Do I replace any other one's? I have an sfc.dll & sfc_os.dll on C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache and 1 sfc_os.dll in C:\WINDOWS\system32\1031 thkz again for the help! ceez
