LOL jrzycrim...i havent finished typing my response and you've already beaten me to it! thkz!!! I'll see if i can find a reason why those other variables are not being added. just add the path command in that .reg file that I created? Should the reg file then look like this? : -=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=- Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment] "BRD_ROOT"="G:" "BRD_SILDIR"="G:\SIL" "PLB_PATH"="G:\;G:\PROGRAMS;G:\DATA;G:\COMMANDS" "PLB_SYSTEM"="G:\COMMANDS" "PLB_TERM"="ANSI" "PLBWIN_ICON"="G:\BRD.ICO" PATH %PATH%;G:\COMMANDS -=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=- thkz man! -

ok let me show you guys (whomever is reading this post! ) the variables that I need to add to the registry "BRD_ROOT"="G:" "BRD_SILDIR"="G:\SIL" "PLB_PATH"="G:\;G:\PROGRAMS;G:\DATA;G:\COMMANDS" "PLB_SYSTEM"="G:\COMMANDS" "PLB_TERM"="ANSI" "PLBWIN_ICON"="G:\BRD.ICO" this is the .reg file that I created: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment] "BRD_ROOT"="G:" "BRD_SILDIR"="G:\SIL" "PLB_PATH"="G:\;G:\PROGRAMS;G:\DATA;G:\COMMANDS" "PLB_SYSTEM"="G:\COMMANDS" "PLB_TERM"="ANSI" "PLBWIN_ICON"="G:\BRD.ICO" When I save it and run it, the only variables showing are BRD_ROOT & PLB_TERM...what gives? am I writing this .reg file incorrectly??? I even placed them in alphabetical order!! I also need to add "G:\COMMANDS" to the Path variable that is already in the system. How would I add that one? "PATH"="G:\COMMANDS"??? wouldnt that erase all the info that is currently in the Path variable and insert the g:\command one?? oh so confused!!!! thkz ceez -

MCT, i've been digging around the reg and then you come up with a simple answer....SET command!!! go figure.... I have a Q, I added a TEST environment i typed set add=test. when i type SET from the cmd prompt it shows a bunch of variables....the one's that ARE listed under the environmental settings in windows under SYSTEM PROPERTIES and some that dont. The one that I added via the SET command doesnt physically appear on that properties window. Is there a way that I can make it appear? It would help because people usually go there to check the environments when something is not running right...if they dont see the environments they will freak out, amaze at the fact that the application has been running and then add them manually via SYSTEM PROPERTIES-environment variables button. I was able to find some stuff out from the registry. The following 2 paths in the registry show the environment variables listed in windows hklm\system\controlset002\control\session manager\environment hklm\system\currentcontrolset\control\session manager\environment If i add a string value to any of the two, it will reflect on the other and also in the system properties. AND The following 2 path also show the environments but whatever i add here will not copy to the other path NOR will it show in the system properties hklm\system\controlset001\control\session manager\environment hklm\system\controlset003\control\session manager\environment would it be better to add it via registry entry? or is there a way for the SET cmd to visually add it to system properties???? thkz a million! ceez -
zup peeps, at work we have an application that we install which doesnt add system variables to windows. We then have to go and add about 10 variables manually...this is time consuming, tidious, and if you mess up you'll start getting a bunch of error messages.......not to mention that application is buggy as hell! :-/ So I was wondering if there's a script, batch, ANYTHING in which we can just type down the variables and values in a file, run it, and that's it...everything is entered in the variables. If you can help you would really help me out! thkz Ceez

zup peeps, i have a friends pc who is having trouble login into his hotmail account. apparently this started happening for no reason.....end users.... anyways, they go to hotmail.com, type in their user/password, click on sign in and it loads a blank webpage. in the bottom left of ie it shows "DONE" and it's not loading anything. if he then goes to msn.com and clicks on the hotmail link then it will take him to his inbox!?!? odd... i have cleared all cookies and temp files...anything related to temp files.... i have resetted all ie settings and i have even reinstalled ie6sp1 to no avail. any ideas? thkz
-
ok i found the fix for..... i re-installed outlook by running an inf file in c:\windows\inf. the file is msoe50.inf. just right click and select install. you will need the cd. as soon as it was over i opened up OE and he could see the text in his emails! that's all folks. ceez
-
actually it's not spam....it's from people that he knows...even if i send him an email it will come out blank.....
-
Zup peeps, My uncle is having a weird problem with his outlook express. He has winxp Pro with all updates in his pc. I have fixed his pc in the past in which he had a total of 61 viruses/trojans and junk in his machine, so i dont know if that might be an issue now.... When he receives a message via OE he can see the from, to and subject with text but when he opens the email it comes up blank.... there's no text to read. I removed and reinstalled from add/remove in windows components, re-installed ie6 by downloading ie6setup.exe from MS. Had him clear out all his temp files with a prog called IEprivacykeeper. Deleted his account from OE and recreated it....no luck. I setup his account on my pc in my OE and i can see the text ok. any ideas?...cause i am outta' them!!! thkz!

i know, but you can view it while you're downloading the file to a temp folder. but when i try it i actually have to download the full file and then listen OR view it.

-
zup peeps, i was just curious if there's a way that i can stream videos that i download to my pc (WINXP_PRO) so i can watch them in another pc without re-downloading the whole file to that pc. Can I also do this with mp3's??? I thought of setting up an ftp server at home but it wont stream, it actually starts to download!?!??! thkz for the input ceez

this is what I would do: go to start -> run and type: regedit go to hk-local machine/software/microsoft/windows/current version/run hk-local machine/software/microsoft/windows/current version/runonce hk-local machine/software/microsoft/windows/current version/runonceEX right click each of the "run" folders and select export, save them somewhere to back them up. now within the folders delete any suspiscious items...stuff that look like spyware/adware or any other apps that you dont want (clean up your startup since your there already! ) you might need to google some of the stuff that you find so you know what type of executable you're dealing with. if you want a easier way to manage your startup item you might want to do a google search for startup.cpl. it's a startup option that will be added to your control panel. run it and you'll see what's running at startup on your pc....uncheck what you dont want to start (i would still back up by going to the registry and exporting) download IE Privacy keeper, it cleans all the internet tracks and other stuff in your pc, but it also has an option of cleaning all temp files and stuff like that that. go to unhsolutions.com and download privacy keeper, it's free and works great! then download adaware (also free! ), update it. if you have an antivirus prog also update it. no disconnect from the net, run ie privacy keeper and clean your system of all temp files and stuff (the prog has a simple interface, should not be hard to figure out how to do this step) now run adaware, delete whatever it finds, reboot your pc if prompted now run your antivirus app and scan your pc, sometimes it finds stuff, i know that norton2004 now detects adware kinda stuff too. hopefully your system should be clean by now. another app that you might want to try is spywareblaster (free too! ), just google that word for the download page. it's a free app that will disable those annoying activeX install screens pop up on webpages that install that crap like mysearchbar and others.... update and enable spywareblaster, it comes in handy eventhough sometimes it conflicts with pages that have safe activeX coding, in that case just disable spywareblaster. hope this helps you out some and good luck

zup peeps, i have a weird issue going on with a pc.... the system reboots whenever i want to log off my system or lock it by pressing the window key and [L] key. it's like if i had selected reboot instead. has anyone had this type of behavior from their pc? winXP pro.
-
run windows updates...you migth get lucky....the fix croocked case update...hackers can access your computer via IE6 and bend your pc like a coke can...this update will disable this other great hole of IE! but in reality, that's one crazy bend.... a couch must of fallen on top of it....goodness.

i think you can change the location of the normal.dot if you go to the options settings of word. I dont know if 97 has any options, but I know that I've seen it on office2k. take a look there.

Marsden, thanks for the reply. What is the average temp for a cpu then running 1.5ghz? (AMD 1800). Why would it have two temperature readings? Assume one for the CPU and one for the mobo chip? Any other 3rd party app that you suggest, or just dont trust em'? I'll check my bios readings later.
-
Zup peeps, I downloaded a system monitor util called smartguardian for my soltek mobo from their website. Temp: it shows two different temps, 1 and 2 Temp1 = 55ºC Temp2 = 201ºC <- this # is on RED!!! Fan Sped 4441 It also show current voltage: VCORE = 1.79v +5 = 4.78v VCC3 = 3.29v +12 = 12.35v Are these numbers ok? My system has neve ran bad and i've had this setup for exactly 2 years. I did maintenance on my pc a week ago, I vacuumed the fans/heatsinks and case...dust-bunnies are gone! thkz for your input

how to config linksys befsr41 for Wake-ON-LAN?
ceez replied to ceez's topic in Networks and the Internet
figured it out.... the system has to be set to hibernate and not a complete shutdown. -
zup peeps, trying to config my linksys befsr41 so i can use the wake on lan (WOL) feature of my linksys lne100tx nic and supported motherboard. I downloaded a gui app that allows me to enter the mac, internet address, subnet mask and port. it also has an option to send the WOL packet via lan or internet. I dont have a prob via lan, but it wont work via internet. I am still on my lan, but either way i believe that the packet would out the router to the internet then back in to the router once it finds my dns and send it to the pc with mac address specified. i created a forwarding port on the router, port #7 to IP 192.168.1.100. As per what I've read, it doesnt matter what port you assign. I even created a UPnP forwarding port on the router and i dont even know what upnp does! can someone give me some advise here. or do i really need to do this from a remote pc? If that's the case, I cant wait to try it from work!!! thkz for the help ceez WOL Webpage http://www.depicus.com
