Zup peeps?! happy new years to all!!! I have 2 pst files in my PC. Outlook took a dump back in october and I had to re-format. I now have one in it's original place C:\Documents and Settings\ceez\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\ and I have one on my D:\ partition which is where I placed the original before the PC went bad. Is there a way of merging those 2 pst files together? I want to pull the one from D:\ and merge it with C:\. Thkz for the help, ceez

Zup peeps, I just purchased a linksys wireless G router and would like to know what is the best way to protect my network from snooping neighbors! The easiest thing I could figure out was just to allow the MAC address of my PC and Laptop to connect to network. Is that enough? I couldnt figure out all that WEP WAP WIP WOP WUP stuff! Any tips??? Thanks, ceez

have you tried calling alienware to see if they just sell the cases? what about ebay?

Vel Straty, I guess I have just been fortunate enough to not have any probs. The only probs I've had is with the stand alone version of norton in which I am left no choice but to download the NAV remover tool from symantec, then once I reinstall I have no probs. As for NSW, never had any issues. I admit I dont use clean sweap or goback, just windoctor and nav, but either way, I've never had any issues. @ buletov, thkz for those alternatives, good to have in case NSW ever craps out on me or someone wants some free alternatives! thkz!!!

zup peeps, got a dvdrw for the holidays but it did not come bundle with any software. what software can you recommend I buy? I have a plexor externam USB PX-504UF thkz

Wai_Wai, have you tried completely removing systemworks and reinstalling it after you upgraded to sp2. I've used norton since I can remember and I've never had troubles with it. Even after I upgraded to sp2 (home and office pc's). Are you using a recent version of norton? 2k4, 2k5? I've also thought about alternatives, but i dont believe there's one as comprehensive as systemworks; and if you find some you have install them separately. good luck!

well i installed it last night after mct recommended it and it seemed to work just fine. I tried it with a couple of forums and worked w/out a glitch AND i didnt see any pop-ups! I guess it's also safe enough to put CC logins and bank logins?!?! What do you think? laterz

MCT, i've been on downloads.com searching for password managers, I noticed this one and read some user reviews. eventhough is not a good idea to go by these, some people stated it created pop ups, is this true? They said to stick to the 'older' version of roboform.... BUT since an msfn member is recommending it, I'll give it a try!! thkz any other suggestions?!?!

Hey everyone!? I have a lot of user and passwords (dont we all!?) and was wondering if anyone uses a good password manager and auto fill manager. I started using nortons 2005 password manager but it's not consistent. It will warn you of filling a password/form whenever it feels like it. Do you recommend a ad/spyware free application?!?! thks ceez

StyleBlazin, heck if I dont have to connect it to my PC (to configure it) is better. I did not know that. Thanks for the input.....I guess "B" is really outta' the question here! laterz

zup peeps, going to upgrade my ethernet home network with wireless soon. I have an xbox/ps2 which will need a wireless adapter. The only thing i've seen are the linksys wireless devices that are made for consoles, do you own one? does it work fine? Or do you have any other options?!?!? thank for your input, ceez

I will be ordering the WKPC54G which comes with a pci card. It's $90.99 at newegg.com. I'll also be getting two usb wireless adapters for $49.99 each (WUSB54G).

ok so i have this need to buy a faster mobo/cpu combo but I DO NOT have the need to reinstall winxp after I get the combo. If I connect the hd to a new mobo will winxp boot without a prob, considering there are new mobo drivers that will need to be installed. I guess the question is: can I buy a new mobo/cpu and connect my ide hd to the mobo without the need to format. thkz! ceez

zup fellow msfn-ers! I have 2 pc's, one has win95 and onw has win98 (upgrading is not an option ) that I have to connect to a ricoh copier/fax/network printer. Installing a network printer is pretty simple on 2k and xp because you can select a tcp/ip port when installing the printer. How do i accomplish this with win95/98? Is there a (free) app that can help me accomplish this? Or how would i go about it within windows? thkz for the help, ceez

@crahak have you even tried starting a small biz in this field? it seems like you've somehow failed. On your first post you stated that people can look up problems on the web, the few customers that I have only know how to check their email and click on links from their msn home page, good luck if they are smart enough to search for something when they get an error in their system. Most panic and decide to call someone instead of them trying to screw up their system even more, and others wouldnt understand the terminology if they tried to search. I did work for a small biz in which people brought in pc's and he would charge $50 bucks in house per hour and his small office people would get charged $65 per hour (if not on a contract). The people in this small offices would call the dumbest stuff, from a simple net cable disconnected to a printer with a jammed paper, guess what? they got billed and they paid. Small biz people just want their systems to work so they can continue doing what they know what to do....sell insurance, realty, etc... they are not going to waste their man hours trying to figure out a problem....that's when "WE" come in. I think you're a bit too negative on this issue. Dont be too hard on yourself. -

well thank you for the positive and negative side of the computer biz world....i guess all this studying is really not paying off unless I live in India and work for AOL tech support! I understand that there are people that are willing to do the same job for 20 bucks, but most of those people are the kids who really dont know what they're doing (I think), and probably will not get called back if there's a problem. I assume that the end user is not really the place to make money, but rather the small business owners/users. These are the people which you can slip in a service contract for a year and make some money of them. Thanks for the input everyone! ceez ps- if people can take their pc to bestbuy and compusa and pay their ridiculous rates, then why cant they take their pc to me and pay my semi-rediculous rates? -
zup peeps, trying to come up with decent repair rates for people that come up to me to fix their pc's. I am in miami florida and would like to know what you think an average/competitive price would be for: 1- virus/spyware/adware cleaning 2- add/install new hard/software 3- home/office network installation rate per pc for 1, it can take up to 4 hours to completely clean a badly infected PC, an hourly rate of 40 or 50 would freak out your end user with a bill of 160 to 200 $$$'s for 2, sometimes installing a modem/network/sndcard/hd etc can take about 10 minutes. I would charge 40 rate, 1 hr minimum. for 3, for home user I would prob charge 50 per PC to configure and connect to their network, business users I would up it to 65-70 bucks. All this assuming that they already have the cables ran, how much for that? So if you could give me your thoughts it would really help me in deciding what would be a good rate and stick to it...also trying to start my own little biz! thkz everyone cheers

zup peeps, sorry for the confusing topic title, but I have no idea how to explain it or how to even search for it on google! I have a customer who wants to place 2 pc's in their store for their customers to be able to access the internet. Is there a software out there that can monitor and charge for the time used? Maybe even with softwrae that can block "restricted" sites? thkz ceez
-
well the only way to do this is to remove and reinstall AOL, then use that persons master screen name....btw, aol tech support in the 'other' side of the world sucks!
-
zup peeps (and fellow AOL users), this is my dilema right now.... I am fixing up a pc in which the user has that lovely piece of software called AOL. Since they have dial-up I wanted to connect at home and make sure that I could download all the necessary AOL updates via DSL. Now when I hit the drop down it has all the user accounts of the AOL screen name I signed on with. Is there a way that I can remove those users before I return the PC and log in with one of THEIR screen names? Thanks
