Thanks a lot. I gave that to my friend and he finally solved his problem. He doesn't know exactly how he managed since he was tired (2 AM) but I believe your files helped him.

And and and... If you use a DVD+ try with a DVD-. And vice versa. Seems dumb but that's what happened yesterday to a friend of mine. But what happens exactly : does it make any sound or is it simply unrecognized ? Download UBCD and burn it on the same DVD once formatted; what happens ?

Try to install QTAlt later : it's likely and app that you install updates msvcrt71.dll (Acrobat for example).

Hi, I have a new computer with 2GB RAM and an A643000+ and windows enabled PAE. But I don't need or want PAE : 2GB is not 4GB. According to sysinternal's boot.ini reference I should be able to use a /NOPAE switch in boot.ini but this has no effect. At least on XP SP2. Does anyone have an idea ? Thanks.

I don't like ads but I know they are needed. I don't see what is the problem with the "remove ads" feature for sponsors : msfn needs money to run. If you help msfn by donating it's normal you don't have ads anymore : donate or have ads. And imho it's normal this is stated as a benefit : imagine someone tries to sell a car and doesn't say what you will get for your money. And as far as I'm concerned, I only see the ad between the first and the second post once because I use IPB's "show new posts/replies" and I go directly to new posts without seeing ads much. About visitors seeing that : msfn has lots of good informations and I know many many websites with worse infos having more ads and especially intellitxt ones : "oh why is this word underlined ? -> Ad". Take a look at Tom'sHardware (good site btw) : it has really a lot af advertisement and also high costs. Websites need money, just like everything else.

Defragmenting your Hard Drive(s)
Camarade_Tux replied to Shindo_Hikaru's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
It can cause problems. I had no hardware problem but on two old computers it messed the filesystem (FAT32 win95/98). Oh and it was with the defragmenter in windows. -
Yes but Bluetooth and infrared are present. But absolutely no bth* file. Last session.ini says bluetooth has not been removed. However I just ran nlite again and in "Components" there is no bluetooth entry. I'm still using XP SP1a. Could it be related ? I'll redo a source asap to be sure. :?
-
Bump. I've just nlited XP for a friend of mine and took care to keep bluetooth and infrared. However, he can't install his bluetooth device. I've checked on my local copy and found all bth* files were removed. The driver's inf calls bth.inf which copies bthusb.sys, bthusb.sys, bthport.sys. These files are not present in driver.cab on in i386. In fact, all bth files have been removed. Is bluetooth dependant on WLAN drivers ?? bth.7z

Simply SFC. Disable it in nlite if you don't really want it.

Thanks go to Yzöwl.

You aren't alone. I had the same issue. nLite randomly broke the Windows installation process. I would get file copy errors, but probably not the same files as mentioned above. Also, be on the look out for the dreaded "Setup cannot copy the file: syssetupo.dll" or similar error message. I had that problem. The only solution is to start all over again, then pray that nLite didn't break the Windows installation process. 1-don't overclock 2-OCCT : http://www.ocbase.com/downocct.html 3-check memory 4-check harddrive (have been my case)

Run Apache as service?
Camarade_Tux replied to playsafe's topic in Server - Side Help (IIS, Apache, etc.)
Forget srvany, use Launcher service : http://emutastic.emulation64.com/netosoft/ Version is 0.2 but it's stable. -
Autohotkey may also do the trick. As far as I remember, there's a thing to block keyboard and mouse but I can't remember what. :/
-
I used to block google ads (they use an external .js so HOSTS work perfetcly). However, I switched computer and thought it would be better not to block them. Btw, I have a question : how much does MSFN earn with a single view and a single click ?

Outsanding! They could have a bit smoother edges but they are really nice-looking. Congrats. B)

Hi everyone, In march, I had a problem : Program Files would always be on C: because I wrote "C:\Programs" in nlite. It's pretty annoying if you want to install on D:\. :/ If you only write Programs in nlite/winnt.sif, then you'll get WIN32\SYSTEM32\Programs. :/ But Yzöwl gave me the solution : use "\Programs" I think this should be added to nlite, especially with the help tooltip.

Start -> Run -> setuperr.log Empty or not ?

I wanted to thank everyone who voted for me. Also, I'll try to make a new desktop for next month contest.

I'll test these test release asap, I was busy. I had to use hfslip this morning to make an XP SP2 CD. My first iso was bad because I used a CD with SP2 sent by Microsoft and the name of the pack was "XPSP2.EXE". I then renamed it but I think it would be better if HFSlip recognized this too. Thanks.

Building up a new computer, needs advices
Camarade_Tux replied to Camarade_Tux's topic in Hardware Hangout
Installed, with 3200+ Venice. Looks pretty cool ATM. I'll just buy a 12cm fan for the case. I thought there was already one. Since I only have one fan (CPU) in the computer, I'll get a silent model. Graphic card is pretty big with its heatsink but it's OK. Hopefully the case is clean : only a few cables. I had a problem with the SATA drive though. ATM there is no partition on it (building an updated CD which will be tested and ready in a bunch of minutes). And this lack of partition made the BIOS unhappy. I was wondering what was going wrong and everything until I understood : I used the boot menu to start from CDROM (default order is : floppy, HD, CDROM...) and everything went fine. There was also another prob, maybe closely related or maybe totally unrelated : I used a standard HD alim -> SATA alim to connect the HD and this may cause a problem. I cant be positive ATM because of the problem I talked about just before. Now it is removed and I don't think I'll use it again because there is no point, it's only an adapter and the HD has both connectors. And of course, I've cut myself. :/ -

Thanks a lot for the info. However, 3500+ Winchester beats 3200+ Venice in all tests at TH. -
Building up a new computer, needs advices
Camarade_Tux replied to Camarade_Tux's topic in Hardware Hangout
Forgot to mention I can't have a Venice except if I buy it on the net and due to shipping delays I won't be able to test and stress the computer before 10 days. The thing is my brother is a bit impulsive when it comes to buy things. Half of the computer is already purchased and I need to know if every component is OK. Is there a problem with Winchesters, or is it simply that Venice are better ? edit : so there's a problem it seems. I can get a 3200+ Venice too. -
Building up a new computer, needs advices

A friend of mine just advised me to take 4570. He told me it was sure. So I'll probably take it. Also, I decided to change from A64 3000+ (Venice) to A64 3500+ (Winchester). Only 12€ more expensive and scores better (by comparison 3800+ is 32€ more expensive). I think everything is OK. I have one last question though : should I integrate nForce4 drivers to my XP CD ? Mobo based on NF4 Ultra and I'll probably disable RAID but the drive is SATA. (first time I install XP on a SATA configuration) -
