According to me (and not only, check out this article) SharpE is almost the best shell replacement for Windows (unfortunally just for 2K/XP). It would be great to have a 9x port for it (dunno if works with KernelEx) or, better, a C port (unfortunally is coded in Delphi). HaPpY CoDiNg !!! note: sorry for the image size, but i can't post the bigger one.... check the gallery !

Well, not a kid's movie but teens' one. No blood and -classical USA- happy end. I'm 31 and i saw it just to understand the tech level... still waiting for GUNDAM (waaays realistic story, better mechs, fights, etc).

Well, i don't wanna be boring nor just uncostructive, but this proliferation of side Win9x unofficial upgrades project "distros" (this, lupus, 7years, JackHammer, etc.) is becoming a bit dispersive to me. Again, i suggest to take in consideration my Open Sourcing Windows 9x idea so, at least, patches and mods could be re-usable in other projects. Just my 0,01 €

Just discovered this website: http://cmediadrivers.googlepages.com/ Unfortunally no 9x compatibility... ... BTW one more reason to re-launch my Open Sourcing Windows 9x once again...

1st sorry for so big images, but thumbnails where broken... not my fault. Dhehe, i'll be glad to be banned from MSFN: not a great loss, sincerly (without offense for anyone). BTW, i have censored myself.

Hope that will be open source (better il GPL-compatible)! I discovered the Illumination and CustomEyes too... ...i also opened a specific 3ad @ ReactOS > Design forum ...and seems that ShellWM is still alive, instead: Last but not least check out this ! HaPpY CoDiNg !!!

Well, i noticed a very interesting news from the Fridgesoft's news page: Official website I suggest it as a possible Windows Sound Recorder substitute.

Yes, naming is completely irrelevant. Approch matters, instead: 1. Open Sourcing Windows 9x 2. Windows Jackhammer: The last update you'll need for Win98.

Seems that Cody Brocious (one of the reverse engineers behind the barelly legal PyMusique DRM-free iTunes client) released a preview build for the Alky Project. There's a related discussion about it on the ROS forum too. Last but not least, ReactX (the open source DirectX clone) is on the way.

Dunno if you're interested (as always), but seems that we have a new open source tool: Official website

Why not a service pack construction kit?
patchworks replied to pcalvert's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Maybe a little recursive -
For those who are interested in, many MS-Paint open source alternatives are on the way; Check out my 3ad @ ROS forum.

Note: WinME-Defrag.exe in Win98SE breaks Money99!
patchworks replied to creopard's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Then i'm right: you're eyes are closed. swgreed asked to fix a problem caused from the SUBSTITUTION of the original Win98SE-defrag.exe with the defrag.exe from WinME... ...so from MY point of view substituting original WIN98SE-defrag.exe with an open source one IS related to the topic (guess how). Well, i find just one 3ad -except this- with the "jkdefrag" tag... Well i unsderstand the difference between me and you: you just USE open source software while i'm trying to PROMOTE (even the develop of) it. I don't post USABLE SOFTWARE but WANNABE IDEAS, can you see the difference ? While i'm not a developer i MUST try to stimulate indipendet developers to reach the solutions. If this is wrong, then sorry, but the "evangelism" have to go on. (anyway note that i'm not an alone dreamer) -

Have you read that 3ad ? Anyway, open source zealot here. As almost _every_ windows users (and some Linux too) your eyes are quite closed: open source means free access to the source, in other words you can "port" the code to your platform (in this case to windows 98). Am I wrong ? In this particular case, we have JkDefrag that is a GNU disk defragment and optimize utility for Windows 2000/2003/XP/Vista/X64. and FreeDOS defrag that aims to be a great utility for people using old versions of windows, like win95 or win98. In other hand ROS offers fraginator... 1+1=2 : what about build a multi platform/filesystem disk optimizer/defragmenter ? -

Interesting discussion about open source defragmenter here -
1. Try recovery tools from a BootCD for bad sectors... 2. remove Windows Media Player and VFW codecs, substitute by VLC 3. remove internet explorer (IEradicator) and install K-Meleon 4. use µTorrent

Tweaks Pack for Windows 98se v1.30
patchworks replied to soporific's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
My suggestion is to "grab" tweaks from WinBoost and TweakNow PowerPack 2006 (old versions). -
There are *many* interesting links on this 3ad (by me), check them out !

Keep in consideration Haiku (aka OpenBeOS) and Syllable. Check out the "strange E/OS LX beast" too...

Well, probably my english is not that good or... i assume that you can easily understand what's in my mind. Anyway the problem IS NOT to collect, install alternative softwares/drivers/libraries, etc but to ERADICATE (completely uninstall, not just renaming the exes... do you know Ieradicator ?) the original ones, keeping the OS functional. Anyway i have wasted even too mutch time in supporting this idea, so here you go... I prefer to support/promote open source projects like ReactOS or (better) Haiku. ...bye !
