  1. I wanted to add a cascading menu containing "My Computer" to the Start menu. I'd use the CLSID: My Computer.{20d04fe0-3aea-1069-a2d8-08002b30309d} as the name for a new folder, but the folder is empty and doesn't allow me to put shortcuts into it. Whereas Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} works fine. Someone said this is a bug in win98, is that true? Can u help me please? Any workaround?
  2. @ awergh: which bitmaps do you mean exactly? I'm using XN Resource Editor. Please mind that I'm talking of an Explorer.exe version that doesn't have Internet Explorer integrated. THX
  3. Nope, that wouldn't do it. The bitmaps aren't the problem. Maybe someone who understands C/C++ could help out. Since I don't understand the source of TClock light. THX
  4. Just wanted to bring this thread to the front.
  5. Hey-ho. thx for the comments. plz don't start one of these "which browser is the best"-threads. it's annoying and absolutely off-topic. @ drugwash right-click your desktop. properties -> effects "hide symbols when displaying as a website" has the same effect. when I started this thread I meant something like "There are other registry tweaks I perform, such as maximize icon cache, HDD read-ahead cache, CD-ROM cache, disable Low Disk Space warning and so on." plz state exactly what you mean and how it is done. thx
  6. @ awergh Which parameters need to be changed? @ patchworks Are you sure this is the right link? There is neither a Registry key nor parameters for explorer.exe. @ WildBill Don't want to run Win98 Explorer. Tclock Light seems to be the solution. But I still want to make it "hardcore" .... Thx anyway.
  7. Hi to everyone. I just came across TClock2, since I like TClock I gave it a try. The only trouble is that in TClock I can modify my Start-Button as I please, but it lacks the function of making the tray and taskbar things flat. In TClock2 I can make the tray look flat, but neither the Start-Button nor the task things. (I think this is because I use Explorer.exe from Win95.) And it since I don't want to run both at once... So my questions are: Which Registry Entries are used to do that? Does anyone know? Or is there a way to do make a Explorer.exe hack (would be even better)? Thx a lot in advance.
  8. That is exactly what was I looking for when I made this Thread. Topic @ problemchyld There is indeed. It's called Firefox + Adblock Plus (or SeaMonkey w/out extension for that matter). Hint: Use Mindows. It's quite small therefore fast and stable. Or 98lite. Is there a good way to flatten the Start-Button like editing Explorer.exe or the Registry? (I use TClock2 to make the tray flat and the Win95 Explorer.exe. TClock2 can't modify the Button....)
  9. I totally agree. Most of the software I use is OpenSource or sort of, hence I can use it under Knoppix/... as well. Try Portaple Apps. I just wanted to mention that if people change to Win2k they'll definitively experience a lot of trouble. Since it has the same core as WinNT and WinXP all malware written for those systems will kill them. There is big advantage in using WinME because only the neglected Win98 malware works on it. I use Win98SE (ripped out IE, SESP 2.1, ...) and I experience neither crashes nor hardware incompatibility nor malware, although I don't have a software firewall. This is because I got the nifty brain.exe.
  10. Hi, I just wanted to know what changes you make to a generic Windows Installation. I don't mean installing DirectX, drivers and progs or whatsoever only changes one would make to System files. I'll start with a few examples: *MSconfig.sys: Deactivate everything, but ScanRegistry and LoadPowerProfile. *MSDOS.sys: Logo=0 *Win386.swp: Set Max and Min to the amount of 3 x Installed RAM in MB. (Right click My Computer / Properties / Performance tab / Virtual Memory) * Deactivating Auto Insert Notification (My Computer / Properties / Device Manager / CD-ROM, choose the drive, click Properties, then the Settings tab, and remove the checkmark from Auto Insert Notification.) * Win.ini: Load= Run= (meaning blank after "=") * Autoexec.bat and Config.sys: Rename them, if you don't encounter any problems you can safely delete them. * Reduce the color depth: by right clicking the Desktop / Properties / Settings. "High Color (16 bit)" I think that's about it. Please don't post any of those convenience tips (like "one-click-shutdown" and so on). c u
  11. @ smashly How did u patch ur explorer.exe? (I'd like it to display my Mindows logo. I modified the one from TClock.) Is there a way to change the default "View" and behaviour of explorer.exe? And if so, how is it done?
  12. Mindows rulz! never made a complete installation within 10 minutes. but some questions showed up. I "patched" the serial key screen by extracting setupx.dll (aka M$ internal install). but I don't know how it works. does windows assume that every file that is outside the .cab-files is newer than the one inside? is there still a check for file integrity? if not could one "inject" WinME files? service packs? my graphics and sound need directx 8.0 or later is there to integrate it? i read this post by lleoliveira but don't know which files should be used in v8.0. I would like to either hack the explorer.exe or use another prog. could one of you recommend one? thanks a lot for this. c u @Admin i think this project is worth a sub-forum. it'd very kind of you to create one. thx. @ jaclaz Sounds cool. so I can use Notepad2 instead of notepad from win95 (after renaming of course)?
  13. Hi chromatic47, I guess no. this seems to be a problem of the explorer.exe 4.00. like the 2gb limitation. Shane Brooks mentions on http://www.litepc.com that it might be possible to integrate a third party explorer....... hope that'll help. c u
