  1. Those files just look like they're for power management features, and the INF just sets maximum resolution and specs. Totally unnecessary. Those DLL and SYS files are for WinNT/2K/XP only as they contain dependecies to WIN32K.SYS, VIDEOPRT.SYS, NTOSKRNL.EXE and HAL.DLL. EnTech website: http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/index.shtm looks interesting - the INF file was written using PowerStrip 3.0. PowerStrip seems to be interesting driver, version 3.7 supports many OSes and chipsets, but it is also expensive. Supported OSes include: OS support: Windows 95 Windows NT 4.0 Windows 98 Windows Millennium Windows 2000 Windows XP Windows Server 2003 Windows Server 2003 x64 Windows XP 2003 x64 Windows Vista Supported chipsets are: The following may work but are NOT supported: - ISA and VL-bus graphics cards - mobile and integrated graphics controllers - 16-versions of Windows with or without Win32s - generic 16-color 640x480 VGA configurations - graphics cards not explicitly listed below The following features and functions are supported with different graphics chipset families: Chipset Timing Gamma Clocks Notes #9 T2R Yes Yes Yes None #9 T2R4 Yes Yes Yes None Banshee Yes Yes Yes None Blade3D Yes Yes Yes None BladeXP Yes Yes Yes None Chrome20 Yes Yes Yes None CL543x Yes No Yes None CL544x Yes No Yes None CL546x Yes Yes Yes None CL5480 Yes Yes Yes None DeltaChrome Yes Yes Yes None ET6000 Yes No Yes None ET6100 Yes No Yes None G100 Yes Yes Yes None G200 Yes Yes Yes None G400 Yes* Yes* Yes *Primary only G450 Yes* Yes* Yes *Primary only G550 Yes* Yes* Yes *Primary only GammaChrome Yes Yes Yes None GeForce Yes Yes Yes None GeForce2 Yes Yes Yes None GeForce3 Yes Yes Yes None GeForce2MX Yes* Yes Yes *Primary only GeForce4MX Yes Yes Yes None GeForce4 Yes Yes Yes None GeForceFX Yes Yes Yes None GeForce6 Yes Yes Yes None GeForce7 Yes Yes Yes None i740 Yes Yes No None i752 Yes Yes No None i81x Yes Yes No None i8x5 Yes Yes No None i9x5 Yes Yes No None Kyro Yes Yes Yes* *Write-only KyroII Yes Yes Yes* *Write-only Mach64 No Yes Yes None MGA-2064 Yes Yes Yes None MGA-2164 Yes Yes Yes None Mystique Yes Yes Yes None Parhelia Yes Yes* Yes *Write-only Parhelia-LX Yes Yes* Yes *Write-only Permedia Yes* Yes Yes* *Write-only Permedia2 Yes* Yes Yes* *Write-only Permedia3 Yes Yes Yes None P9/P10 Yes Yes Yes None P20/P25 Yes Yes Yes None ProSavage Yes Yes Yes None R100 Yes Yes Yes None RV100 Yes Yes Yes None RV200 Yes Yes Yes None R200 Yes* Yes Yes *Primary only RV250 Yes Yes Yes None RV280 Yes Yes Yes None R300 Yes Yes Yes None RV350 Yes Yes Yes None R350 Yes Yes Yes None RV360 Yes Yes Yes None RV370 Yes Yes Yes None RV380 Yes Yes Yes None RV410 Yes Yes Yes None RV515 Yes Yes Yes None RV530 Yes Yes Yes None R360 Yes Yes Yes None R420 Yes Yes Yes None R423 Yes Yes Yes None R430 Yes Yes Yes None R480 Yes Yes Yes None R481 Yes Yes Yes None R520 Yes Yes Yes None R580 Yes Yes Yes None Rage No Yes Yes None RageII No Yes Yes None RagePro No Yes Yes None Rage128 Yes Yes Yes None Riva128 Yes Yes Yes None Savage2000 Yes Yes Yes None Savage3D Yes Yes Yes None Savage4 Yes Yes Yes None SavageIX Yes Yes Yes None SiS305 Yes Yes Yes None SiS315 Yes* Yes Yes *Primary only SiS6326 Yes Yes Yes None TNT/TNT2 Yes Yes Yes None Trio Yes No Yes None Trio/DX Yes No Yes None Trio/GX Yes No Yes None Trio3D Yes Yes Yes None TrioLC2X Yes Yes Yes None V2200 Yes Yes Yes None ViRGE Yes No Yes None ViRGE/DX Yes No Yes None ViRGE/GX Yes No Yes None ViRGE/GX2 Yes No Yes None ViRGE/VX Yes Yes Yes None Volari V3 Yes* Yes Yes *Primary only Volari V3XT Yes* Yes Yes *Primary only Volari V5/V8 Yes* Yes Yes *Primary only Voodoo1 No No Yes None Voodoo2 No No Yes None Voodoo3 Yes Yes Yes None Voodoo4 Yes Yes Yes None Voodoo5 Yes Yes Yes None Xabre Yes* Yes Yes *Primary only Petr
  2. Do you have any idea if the corrected versions 8.0.33.0 mentioned in Multiple Vulnerabilities in Adobe Flash Player 8.0.24.0 and Earlier Versions security bulletin is also avaiable? I was able to locate 7 and 9 only: Flash Player 7.0.68.0 (required for Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows NT) http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashpl...sh_player_7.exe (Netscape) http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashpl...player_7_ax.exe (IE) Flash Player 9.0.16.0 http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flash...lash_player.exe (Netscape) http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flash...er_active_x.exe (IE) http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flash...er_active_x.msi (IE) http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flash...ent/swflash.cab http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flash...lash_player.exe Petr
  3. I have downloaded the package from http://www.mdgx.com/files/IE918899.EXE and I supposed that it was done by you, sorry. Petr
  4. Hello the_guy, a few comments to your unofficial patch (v2). I'd just clean some things: - in _SFX_MANIFEST_ I'd remove references to RTMGDR subfolder, and unnecesary sections and lines, just compare it with _SFX_MANIFEST_ in KB916281. - in Q918899_D_RTMQFE.INF and Q918899_D.INF I'd: -- change the GUID (to {4d64f3ba-f112-4efe-a02e-96680859937c} for v3) -- add HKLM,"Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\%GUID%","PackageVersion",0x00010001,3 in [Actsetup.Reg] section - Q918899_me.cat file - it contanis references to all non-existing files, maybe the cat file from KB916281 would be better, or maybe the empty file would be the best as we are not able to build the correct one. It would eliminate the need to add nircmd.exe and start.exe. I have noticed some references to cat files creating in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922225 Is any reason for adding SmartReboot=I Reboot=1 lines? MS package contains the following lines in the .SED file: ShowInstallProgramWindow=0 CheckAdminRights=1 TargetFileVersion=@FileSectionList [FileSectionList] 1=#S\BROWSEUI.DLL:6.0.2800.1106-6.0.2800.1692:%Warn2%:Ok 2=#S\CDFVIEW.DLL:6.0.2800.1106-6.0.2800.1612:%Warn2%:Ok 3=#S\IEPEERS.DLL:6.0.2800.1106-6.0.2800.1535:%Warn2%:Ok 4=#S\INSENG.DLL:6.0.2800.1106-6.0.2800.1475:%Warn2%:Ok 5=#S\JSPROXY.DLL:6.0.2800.1106-6.0.2800.1549:%Warn2%:Ok 6=#S\MSHTML.DLL:6.0.2800.1106-6.0.2800.1562:%Warn2%:Ok 7=#S\MSRATING.DLL:6.0.2800.1106-6.0.2800.1623:%Warn2%:Ok 8=#S\MSTIME.DLL:6.0.2800.1106-6.0.2800.1538:%Warn2%:Ok 9=#S\PNGFILT.DLL:6.0.2800.1106-6.0.2800.1506:%Warn2%:Ok 10=#S\SHDOCVW.DLL:6.0.2800.1106-6.0.2800.1849:%Warn2%:Ok 11=#S\SHLWAPI.DLL:6.0.2800.1106-6.0.2800.1740:%Warn2%:Ok 12=#S\URLMON.DLL:6.0.2800.1106-6.0.2800.1573:%Warn2%:Ok 13=#S\WININET.DLL:6.0.2800.1106-6.0.2800.1560:%Warn2%:Ok [Strings] InstallPrompt=Do you want to install this update? 5. I'd try to boot from DOS 7.1 (Windows 98SE) floppy and look if the flash card disk is visible, what is the letter assigned to it and if there is really X:\COMMAND.COM. Petr
  6. files broken... please, hosting file secondchance.zip other server (RapidShare, SendSpace,...) I was able to download the rar file and unpack it with no problem, it contains SecondChance by PowerQuest® Version 2.01, the same version can be downloaded also here: http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_down...p/download.html It seems there is even newer version 2.07, here is German version: http://www.computerhilfe-euskirchen.de/dow...econdchance.zip English version of 2.07 could be probably found using Google too. Petr
  7. 3rd revision of MS06-042 Cumulative Update for Internet Explorer 6 SP1 (KB918899) Direct download http://download.microsoft.com/download/3/7...-v3-x86-ENU.exe URLMON.DLL was updated: 6.00.2800.1567 -> 6.00.2800.1572 (GDR branch) 6.00.2800.1568 -> 6.00.2800.1573 (QFE branch) Petr
  8. I wouldnt use that kind of TargetWin9xVersion setting for Windows 95. That may not work for Win95 B/C systems with the USB Supplement Update installed which updates Win95 OSR2 to either version 4.03.1212 or 4.03.1214. personally I prefer 'TargetWin9xVersion=4.00.950-4.03.1214' when making patches for Win95 see MS KB article 158238 on the 9x versions of Windows being used: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/158238 Versions reported to iexpress package (wextract stub): Windows 95 retail, OEM and OSR1: 4.00.950 Windows 95 OSR2, OSR2.1 and OSR2.5 without USB supplement: 4.00.1111 Windows 95 OSR2.1 and OSR2.5 with USB supplement: 4.00.1212 So TargetWin9xVersion=4.0.950-4.0.1212 is sufficient to cover all Windows 95 versions and old Microsoft packages contain this range. Newer packages from Microsoft contain wider range 4.00.950-4.03.1214 but this seems to be unnecessary. MSKB article 158238 does not provide correct information. For example, the version displayed on the System Properties General tab is different: Windows 95 retail and OEM: 4.00.950 Windows 95 retail with SP1 and OSR1: 4.00.950a (not 4.00.950A) Windows 95 OSR2 and OSR2.1: 4.00.950 B (not 4.00.950B) Windows 95 OSR2.5: 4.00.950 C (not 4.00.950C) (after uninstalling USB supplement is changed to 4.00.950 b) Version stored in registry in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion, keys VersionNumber and SubVersionNumber: Windows 95 retail and OEM: 4.00.950 Windows 95 retail with SP1 and OSR1: 4.00.950a Windows 95 OSR2 and OSR2.1 without USB supplement: 4.00.1111 B Windows 95 OSR2.1 with USB supplement: 4.03.1212 B or 4.03.1214 B Windows 95 OSR2.5 without USB supplement: 4.00.1111 C Windows 95 OSR2.5 with USB supplement: 4.03.1214 C Windows 95 OSR2.5 after uninstalling USB supplement: 4.00.1111 b Note: There are two versions of USB supplement USBSUPP.EXE, 4.03.1212 and 4.03.1214. In all versions of OSR 2.1 and OSR 2.5 seems to be USBSUPP.EXE 4.03.1214 only, KB181661 lists 4.03.1214 version too, USBSUPP.EXE 4.03.1212 I have found here only: http://www.usbman.com/WebDrivers/Win95USB%...ate/usbsupp.zip DOS command VER reports 4.00.950 for retail/SP1/OEM/OSR1 and 4.00.1111 for OSR2.x. Windows command WINVER reports just "Windows 95" for all sub-versions.
  9. These Word 2003 and Excel 2003 viewers use some system functions that are not implemented in Windows 98 and therefore cannot be used here. You can use old Word 97 and Excel 97 viewer but the quality is not very high. The official download page was removed by Microsoft but the files themselves are still there: http://download.microsoft.com/download/wor...S/wd97vwr32.exe http://download.microsoft.com/download/exc...US/xlViewer.exe Petr
  10. There are two different versions of Q250876 hotfix The first (154296 bytes) contains nwpp32.dll 4.00.955 and has TargetWin9xVersion=4.0.950-4.3.1220 The second (168608 bytes) contains nwpp32.dll 4.00.956 and has TargetWin9xVersion=4.0.950 Maybe the 4.00.956 version does not work in OSR2? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q250876/ lists version 4.00.955 only. Petr
  11. I cannot find any wireless adapter named RTS2500USB. If you are using on-board audio it should be CMedia CMI9880L and there is no support for High Definition Audio in Windows 98/98SE/Me. At present I see the following problems: No USB2 driver No Audio driver No native SATA driver, it has to be checked if the BIOS has the ability to set 2 SATA + 2 PATA mode Unknown status of your wireless adapter Petr
  12. Vista pre-rc1 build 5552 contains version 6.0.5552.16384 Vista rc1 build 5600 contains version 6.0.5600.16384 (vista_rc1.060829-2230) I have uploaded iexpress/wextract/makecab/advpack from vista rc1 here: http://home.tiscali.cz/~cz053010/iexpress-5600.zip Petr
  13. The following drivers may be required for Windows 98SE: Intel Corporation 82915G/GV/GL/P/PL/GL Grantsdale Host Bridge/DRAM Controller http://downloadmirror.intel.com/df-support...finst_autol.exe http://downloadmirror.intel.com/df-support.../ENG/readme.txt http://downloadmirror.intel.com/df-support...eleasenotes.htm Monitor/Panel : Medion MD30217PG C07 http://download2.medion.de/downloads/treiber/display.exe Adapter : MEDION RADEON X740XL (Omega 3.8.273) Catalyst 6.2 https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default...mp;folderID=297 Omega drivers: http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati/win9x_me.php (no idea if it supports X740XL) Imaging Device: Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000 http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/download...tid=6023,OSID=5 USB Controller/Hub : Intel® 82801FB/FBM USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 265C No driver for Windows 98/98SE/Me X10 USB Wireless Transceiver http://www.x10.com/products/x10_cm19a.htm ftp://ftp.x10.com/pub/applications/firecracker/ck18a.exe - no idea if it supports Win98 VIA Rhine III Fast Ethernet Adapter http://www.viaarena.com/Driver/VT6105_VT61...106Sv28FVIA.zip or http://www.viaarena.com/Driver/VT6105Mv25FVIA.zip Windows 98SE has no support for Intel ICH6 SATA controller, you can use your SATA hard disks in the following two modes: SATA only: 4 SATA disks are emulated as PATA disks, in this mode no PATA disks/CD-ROMs can be used Combined: 2 SATA disks are emulated as PATA disks and 2 PATA disks can be used. BIOS in my MSI Speedster 915GM motherboard does not have this setting, all BIOSes in Gigabyte motherboards have it, you have to check this. You have 4 SCSI CD-ROMs in your system? I'm not able to identify the wireless network adapter in the SiSoft Sandra output. Everest output is much better for this purpose. For all other items there is not sufficient information in your post. The biggest problem will be lack of USB2 support, the only solution would be to buy some VT6212 or uPD720101 USB card if you have free PCI slot, it costs $5 - $10 only. Also the disk arrangement may be the problem. Petr
  14. in what section of the MSBATCH.INF file does the ProductKey line have to be entered? be more specific, LLXX This is the original MSBATCH.INF from MSDN CD-ROM (key Xed): ; MSBATCH.INF ; ; Copyright (c) 1995-1999 Microsoft Corporation. ; All rights reserved. ; [BatchSetup] Version=3.0 (32-bit) SaveDate=04/23/99 [Version] Signature = "$CHICAGO$" [Setup] ProductKey="XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX" Petr
  15. Hi the_guy, do you have any idea why Microsoft was always creating different files for IE on Win98/98SE/Me and different for IE on Windows 2000? Are you sure that it is safe to use Windows 2000 files on Windows 98? If yes, then why MS was building two different branches? Petr
  16. Vista pre-rc1 build 5552 contains version 6.0.5552.16384 Petr
  17. BTW, it is very interesting that it was possible to install NUSB into his Win98 First Edition. I have checked nusb20e.exe, nusb21e.exe, nusb22e.exe and nusb23e.exe and all have the following restriction: TargetNTVersion=4.10.2222 TargetWin9xVersion=4.10.2222 It should not be possible to install the package on Windows 4.10.1998. Petr
  18. Yes, I meant it as an alternative, not replacemnt of the current package. Petr
  19. I think it would be very useful to make language neutral package. It should be no problem because all language dependent files are already contained in SESP 2.1a and therefore there is no need to have them in this package too. The iexpress package should check if the right versions of these files are already installed and refuse to install if not. Petr
  20. It was already discussed here, just install http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownlo...en/rootsupd.exe Microsoft certificate in Windows 98 has expired. Petr
  21. So also Radeon 9250 (hardware support for DirectX 8.1) seems to be AGP 2x (3.3V) compatible: http://www.sapphiretech.com/en/productfiles/59brochure.pdf According to http://www.playtool.com/pages/agpcompat/agp.html also Radeon 9500, 9700 (not 9550) and Nvidia FX5200/5500/5600/5700/5800/5900/5950 (hardware DirectX 9) and MX400/420/440/440-8/4000 should be compatible but it has to be verified. Petr
  22. So you need a graphics card that supports AGP 2x. The above mentioned Radeon 7000 has hardware support for DirectX 7.0, maybe (not sure) 8.0. I will test what will show Everest later today. Petr
  23. http://www.ati.com/products/radeon7000/radeon7000/index.html states: "Supports DirectX® 7.0, DirectX® 8.0 and OpenGL®" http://www.sapphiretech.com/us/products/pr...iew.php?gpid=78 http://www.sapphiretech.com/us/productfiles/matrix-vga-1.xls states DirectX 7.0. http://www.club-3d.nl/productshow_vga.php?...32DTVD&l=en states - DirectX® 7.0 pixel-pipelines http://www.asus.com/products3.aspx?l1=2&am...e=Radeon%207000 states Microsoft DirectX 7.0 and OpenGL support http://www.fic.cz/product_doc-92D6699CD34B...5E003D45CF.html states DirectX 8.0, OpenGL So it is not 100% sure. You can always use DirectX 9.0c software. Petr
  24. If the system was built in 1998 and contains AGP slot, then it might be based on Intel 686LX or 686BX chipsets and yes, we use ATI Radeon 7000 based graphics cards if we need a replacement. It seems to be good choice, it has AGP 2.0 Compliant BUS - for AGP 2X (3.3V), AGP 4X (1.5V), or AGP2X/4X based systems, it supports DirectX® 7.0 (or even 8.0?) by hardware, 32 MB or 64 MB video memory, passive cooling, some cards have DVI output... Petr
  25. Windows XP drivers cannot be used in Windows 9x. All original Rendition drivers are here: http://download.micron.com/downloads/itg/Drivers.zip All od Diamond MM drivers are here: http://www.diamondmm.com/driversbefore912003.php If they don't work then you have bad luck. You can always use generic VGA driver in Windows 9x but has low resolution. Petr
