  1. I'm not sure how can Aida help to choose the graphics card. Do you mean AGP support identification? It should be noted that Aida has changed to Everest, the freeware version, Everest Home, was stopped in November 2005 (you can google for everesthome_build_0474.zip) and now exists just Everest Ultimate, trial version can be downloaded here: http://www.lavalys.com/products/download.p...d=3〈=en and the latest official beta (3.01.693) can be downloaded here: http://www.lavalys.com/forum/index.php?showforum=12 Petr
  2. There are several sites with patched Award BIOSes that had the 32 GiB and/or 64 GiB bug, for bug description see http://www.ryston.cz/petr/bios/award.html . And an example of such site is http://wims.rainbow-software.org/ AFAIK Intel uses customized AMI BIOSes, HP I don't know, so these patches are not for you. Great information including the Bios Patcher is at http://rom.by/ - unfortunately the English version is not so updated. Regarding the paid BIOS upgrades, maybe this is the site: http://www.unicore.com/biosupgrades/upgradenow.cfm Petr
  3. To give you the best advice it would be necessary to know not only your motherboard (or what AGP standards it supports) but also the application or games you want to use. The price may vary from $40 to $400 I think. In general, list of Nvidia graphics cards supported by the latest driver (ForceWare 81.98) is here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/81.98_9x_supported.html The latest ATI driver (Catalyst 6.2) is here: https://support.ati.com/ics/support/KBAnswe...questionID=1160 and in RELEASE NOTEs you can find the list of supported types. Petr
  4. Everest: http://www.lavalys.com/products/download.p...d=3〈=en is very good tool for identification of all the hardware and software on your computer. Petr
  5. MSHTML.DLL 7.00.5700.6 (winmain(wmbla).060822-2230) << link removed >> Petr
  6. I was told that there is no restriction, I can request hotfixes for Windows 95 or even Windows 3.1. Petr
  7. But file has this : So date and file size aren't correct.http://support.microsoft.com/?id=320798 states: The Korean version of this fix should have the following file attributes or later: Date Time Version Size File name Operating system ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 26-Apr-2002 19:55 4.10.0.2001 477,184 Kernel32.dll Windows 98 26-Apr-2002 19:53 4.10.0.2225 479,232 Kernel32.dll Windows 98 Second Edition It is usual that localized files have newer date/time than English ones. The 320798 hotfix is genuine from Microsoft, you can verify it by checking the digital signature of the 320798USA8.EXE file that is available from MDGx site as Q320798.exe. You can also see that the package was digitally signed by Microsoft on April 6th, 2002. The original file on the Microsoft web server is here: http://hotfixv4.microsoft.com/Windows%2098...NU_i386_zip.exe and the password is QI%ib3+* - if you want to be sure that you have really the original version ofthis fix. Petr
  8. No surprise, Microsoft uses always the same convention, all corrected fixes were v2: WindowsXP-KB911280-v2-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB908531-v2-x86-ENU.exe WindowsMedia10-KB911565-v2-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB900485-v2-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB889527-v3-x86-ENU.exe WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe WindowsXP-KB319740-v5-x86-ENU.exe So IE6.0sp1-KB918899-Windows-2000-XP-x86-ENU.exe is the first release IE6.0sp1-KB918899-Windows-2000-XP-v2-x86-ENU.exe is the second release IE6.0sp1-KB918899-Windows-2000-XP-v3-x86-ENU.exe would be the third release etc. It was changed with Windows Vista, here even the first version has v1 in the filename: Windows6.0-KB918899-v1-x86-EN-US.MSU Petr
  9. Finally v2 of Cumulative Update for Internet Explorer 6 SP1 (KB918899) More to read: MS06-042 Re-released (BTW, the updated file URLMON.DLL has version 6.00.2800.1568 (RTMQFE) and 6.00.2800.1567 (RTMGDR) and is dated August 5th.) Petr
  10. I don't think so. Try to check the microcode update revision, for CPUID 6D8, the latest microcode update is rev. 20 dated 2004-07-22. Petr
  11. This is exactly what I mentioned because RainyD did not mention this in his first post. There are either boards that are fully supported in Windows 98SE, it means ALL hardware components are supported, or boards that are supported partially only. Partially are supported almost all today boards, missing drivers are sometimes for High Definition Audio, somentimes for SATA controllers, sometimes for USB2 controller, sometimes for integrated graphics, etc. Petr
  12. This is not the case of ASRock, as I wrote in my posts. Even for the newest motherboards, if it is Windows 98/ME compatible, it is written in the specification and there are drivers in the drivers section: http://www.asrock.com/support/download.asp?Model=775i65G 939Dual-VSTA contains C-Media CM6501 7.1 channel audio compliant with UAA architecture 775Dual-VSTA contains Realtek ALC888 7.1channel audio CODEC with High Definition Audio Both are not supported in Windows 98SE/Me. Petr
  13. Please read what is written both in the reviews you have posted and on the ASRock website: OS - Microsoft Windows 2000 / XP / XP 64-bit / Vista™ compliant At least, there is no support for UAA (Universal Audio Architecture) in Windows 98/98SE/Me so the on-board audio cannot be used. Do you see any Windows 98/98SE/Me drivers here? http://www.asrock.com/support/download.asp...el=939Dual-VSTA http://www.asrock.com/support/download.asp...el=775Dual-VSTA Compatible boards like 775i65G have clearly written: OS - Microsoft Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP compliant and there are also Windows 98/98SE/Me drivers: http://www.asrock.com/support/download.asp?Model=775i65G Petr
  14. and also http://blogs.technet.com/msrc/archive/2006/08/22/448689.aspx Petr
  15. These boards are not compatible with Windows 98/98SE/Me. Petr
  16. In Windows 2000 (beta), it seems to be this part of the source code: // initialzie the file to the full size // this takes 3 dos calls, so only do it if the file is big if (pfd->nFileSizeLow > (COPYMAXBUFFERSIZE * 3)) { // if there's a problem, bail if ((_llseek(hDest, pfd->nFileSizeLow, 0L) == HFILE_ERROR) || (!SetEndOfFile((HANDLE)hDest))) { iLastError = GetLastError(); goto ErrorOnWrite; } else { _llseek(hDest, 0, 0L); } } Petr
  17. Just for completeness, one very cheap Intel chipset board that fully supports Windows 98SE / Windows Me and Intel Core 2 (Conroe) processors: http://www.asrock.com/product/775i65G.htm Petr
  18. My opinion is that it is just different compilation of the same source code. Petr
  19. I have located "Microsoft ® Diamond Cabinet Builder - Version (32) 1.00.0540 (02/01/96)" in IEAK 3.2 It is here: diamond.zip Edit: And what is interesting, there is three exactly identical files, just the name is different: diamond.exe diant.exe diantz.exe DIANTZ.EXE is part of Windows 2000 / XP / 2003 and it is almost identical to MAKECAB.EXE, even the help (in XP) is identical: C:\WINDOWS\system32>diantz Microsoft (R) Cabinet Maker - Version 5.1.2600.2180 Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.. MAKECAB [/V[n]] [/D var=value ...] [/L dir] source [destination] MAKECAB [/V[n]] [/D var=value ...] /F directive_file [...] Petr
  20. I have tested SciTech driver on a computer with FX5200 AGP card and i845PE chipset and it worked fine, just any 3DMark test did not passed because the SciTech driver is for office use only and has no 3D support. In addition to previously tested system I have also tested GA-8I945PL-G motherboard and the result was the same as with GA-8I955X Pro, i.e. Nvidia 6200 Turbo Cache OK, Nvidia 6600 (Gigabyte NX66256DP) got frozen on certiain events. Petr
  21. I was told that Adobe Type Manager Light 4.1 for Windows 95/98 is the right way: http://www.adobe.com/products/atmlight/index.html Petr
  22. BTW, Microsoft just (11-Aug-2006) released Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition, and Windows NT 4.0 - but just jscript.dll was updated to 5.6.0.8831. Petr
  23. This good news. It is mentioned here: http://blogs.technet.com/msrc/archive/2006/08/16/447023.aspx so it should be true. Petr
  24. Use the WayBack Machine. Here is the result: http://web.archive.org/web/20030815090806/...s/win95-4mb.txt Petr
