  1. Depending on the distance between offices, the Link speed, the number of users etc. having the DNS server at another office as a secondary would help the users get logged on easier next time, DNS was the issue in the case you stated why the users couldn't connect (i assume the DC was also the DNS server)
  2. first, PDC and BDCs are dead, (cheer) all domain controllers are treated equally, for the domain to worrk you will need to have at least DNS setup, prefferably on 2 machines incase one DC does go down, i would suggest at least the machine accross the VPN be a DC and a DNS server (depending on how many clients are at the remote location and if they can stand being down or not) unless you are going to turn the TS server into a DC (which i wouldn't recommend) you won't have to worry about AD replication to it, just make sure the TS server is part of the domain (static IP) and can be seen through DNS lookups. i would really make your DC the global catalog server, having it on the 2000 box may causes issues. you could DCpromo the 3rd machine, but depending on the site link it could take a very long time and eat up all the bandwidth on that link. if possible taking it down for some scheduled maintence and upgrading it at the main site would be best. DNS will replicate out across the whole domain no matter what the subnets are.
  3. Edit on my part, on the NEW drivers that Nvidia has on there website i now get a Nvidia control panel, work well with the 6800 i have
  4. my bet would be a driver issues, check with the mobo vendor to see if there is a newer driver for your board, also find out what chip is being used on the NIC (broadcom, 3com, intel etc) you can check with those manufactuers also for vista drivers.
  5. if you have a domain setup, you can set records in the DNS server to take *.myspace.com and point it to 127.0.0.1 you would create a A record on the primary DNS server, that should do it,
  6. you can use ghost to create an image of both those OS's
  7. Server 2003 will cover most of the roles that you have listed there. points 3 & 5 would have to be decided by the applications in questions, (the revsion control program and acomba) those would both need to be capatible with 2003, other then that the mail role can be done by 2003 but you only get POP3 and smtp mail option, for imap clients you would need to get something like exchange to install for mail. is there aleardy a network and domain in place? is it 2000 or 2003? there are alot of things you have to know and plan for before introducing something like this into an existing network
  8. the WSIM in the WAIK that you have most likely is the older version, there was a new version released on May 25th, if you can download that one you will be set, also soon the BDD (business desktop deployment) app will be out that will allow for unattended vista installs, should see it within the next 2 weeks
  9. they aren't present in the vista drivers B) since these are still beta drivers from nvidia there is no extra features like nview and such going in yet, you will see those later when the drivers get more refined or when vista goes RC1, it might be possible then, but till then, you will have to work with what vista has
  10. check on pinnacles page to see if there are supporting drivers for vista with the device, WMC in vista has had alot of issues and stil is not very stable

    wireless?

what settings do you have on your wireless network? i have found some wirelss settings to cause the network not be seen by vista, turn off any security that you may have on and test it again to see ifyou can get it find the network at all, then turn on the security bit by bit to see what breaks it,
  12. post the info about your computer (speed, ram, HD, video card, manufacters etc) this will help us find out if there is an issue, the upgrade assitant isn't really that good, sadly it tells lots of people they can run vista when they can't
  13. how much ram do you have? what kind of video card are you using?
  14. getting the IMPI to load in winpe would require you to know all the dependicies of the program (dlls, reg keys etc) find out all theses and you can edit the registry hives, add the dll to the PE and try it from the PE, i have no idea what dependicies are needed but registry keys are a great place to start and find out
  15. unless you have a way to mount the ISO image you woould have to unpack the PE to a temp folder first to run the image
  16. the win PE core cannot be replaced, you can try and copy in the versions of the files to the PE, but i don't think that i will work
  17. i agree, the creative drivers will install but 2.1 will be the best you will be able to get, to get the elevated level that is suggest in the above post you need to first right click on the setup.exe file and choose run as administrator.
  18. do you have an oboard nic card? if windows has drivers for your device they will install automatically, or if you do a windows update, it will download optional drivers if they are available. other then that you can check the PC manufactuers webpage to see if they ahve vista compatible drivers for your machine. if not you will have to wait for the manufactures to write drivers for the devices.
  19. which drive are you trying to use for the quorom drive the IDE? or the SATA? both drives run through the IDE bus so you might be better off just using the IDE drive for the quorom,
  20. LOL, hopefully there is another domain admin account already setup (i hope...)
  21. this would work with a WIM that you have created, but not the one off the Vista DVD, the WIM there is not fully enclosed and MS doesn't use imageX (new name) to deploy it. if you were to install vista, activate it and then create a WIM from the resulting install it would work
  22. for a competent IT manager, a certification lets him know that you are willing to keep learning about new software and hardware as it comes out, as of right now there are now MCP classes for Vista, i wouldn't take any classes that weren't for a MS certification. Bottem line, unless you can prove your worth to your employer doesn't matter if you have your MCSE and are a MVP you can still get fired.
  23. DSadd is only on 2003 unless you dload the admin tools...
