  1. disable it through GPO, there is an option there to do it
  2. i don't think you will be finding any tools like that yet, give it a couple months,
  3. i wouldn't go so far as to remove the account (actually i am not sure you even can) if you want it to be secure rename the admin account to something else and disable the account
  4. if you want to play with vista you would be better off with the 32 bit version atm, driver support is much better for 32 bit versions still. when vista goes public with beta 2 or retail, you will have a better chance getting the 64 bit drivers.
  5. 64 bit drivers are hard to find as they need to be first certified to work with MS, check with your Mobo manufactuer and see if they have vista supporting drivers for the NIC for x64,
  6. add/remove programs =>windows components=> terminals services, you will also have to install a license server or in 120 days the server will stop working
  7. the WSIM will install on XP sp2, but unless you have the newer version from after may 25th, it will work properly. it has worked for some people but for most it was not working correctly
  8. you are going to have alot of hassles finding apps and games that do not work right on 2003, you should try vista instead
  9. if you are only in a workgroup there isn't much logging that can be done to see that, you would need a 3rd party app or a domain and setup logging on the network share for successful and failed deletetion attempts.
  10. check the permissions to the folders that the ISIS program is running, also make sure that the scanner is certified for 2003 SP1 (yes scanners a stupid like that), is there a reason for the USB and not SCSI? you would get much better preformance out of the scanner if you ran that route. but first check the ISIS program folder in program files and make sure that all users have at least read and write to that folder
  11. interesting, i want to get my WDS server up and running again to test this
  12. lol they changed the name again, imagex is the new ruler!!
  13. pecommes has the preffered language on the 2000 DC been changed? it sounds like the 2003 forest prep was looking for the preffered languague to be something else, possibley the standard english
  14. the acceptance to the beta happend a long time ago, you won't get in now, you best chance is to sign up for the CPP that should be out end of june/ july. either that or if you work for a company that has a technet subscription or MSDN account you can dload it there. if you really really wanted it you can get a technet subscription for around 500$
  15. you could just use the APIs for ximage to make the calls to the wim, don't know if that would be easier or not for you
  16. image has already been created and built into a Pe. Now finished the layouts for a WDS deployment, and i have to say, Longhorn server... very very nice :-D
  17. :-\ duals P4's? for a 1000 client base thrown in the money for Xeons or Opterons... the design benefits will help out the system greatly what ever the role of that server
  18. you would need to use teh WSIM to make a anwser file. or use the setup /unattended:<anwserfilepath> but that won't work on a iso yet
  19. you are only going to be able to use d-tools to install to a virtual machine or virtual PC, won't work for you machine, burn it to a DVD if u need dual boot your machine
  20. getdataback works really well i would try that first, you could also try booting in a BartPe if you have one and getting the info there
  21. you can setup an alert in premformance logs and alerts, but i don't think this would cover a drive failing... MOM 2005 would be a good option
  22. 2 x DC both with DNS, DHCP, GC (global Catalogs), WINS, 1 x Exchange Server 1 x DB server 1 x ISA Server 1 x Security Server 6 would be the ideal suggestion for Servers. Please please please do what you can to at least get the DCs and Exchange on their own boxs, it will save you years of hassle. Remeber it may seem like this is a huge cost to foot at the beginning, but think of the down time it will save, say you only buy 3 server and one goes down, did you just lose your DC and exchange box? how much is that going to cost you in lost data, time and energy to replace and recreate?
  23. Rice boy, are you talking about beta 2? or CTp 1 Refresh... since hte post started with CTP refresh 1, i assume he was still talking about that, if he is on Beta 2 i believe it needs to be activated...
  24. no activation is done with the office products... just the cd-KEY is needed
  25. myone, how many clients are connecting to this network? how many will be making VPn connections? if the company is smaller you can get away with fewer servers, but it isn't recommended as when you grow and expand you will have some serious growing pains migrating services off one server to a new dedicated one. Connecting all the servers and hardware would be done through swiches, if they are at alt sites or remote sites then you would have to deal with WAN links and point to point VPN scenerios also
