Win 98 explorer refuses to move certain files to other partition.
RJARRRPCGP replied to Sfor's topic in Windows 9x/ME
BTW, my favorite one is, Windows 98 SE lets me delete a file, but won't let me empty the recycle bin, it will immediately display "Error deleting file or folder Cannot delete x : Access denied" (or similar) Has anyone else here been bitten by that bug? -
Error loading Explorer.exe (UBCD4.5.20 & USP2.1a)
RJARRRPCGP replied to jda-au's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Sounds like possibly the Internet Explorer upgrade process failed. I gotten at least a similar error, because the CD with an updated Internet Explorer was damaged or dirty a long time ago. -
Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 failed!
RJARRRPCGP replied to cucolinwin's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
Windows Update is broken and Microsoft seemingly refuses to admit it! Same overall type of error is known to occur when using Windows Update to apply hotfixes. You're required to download them manually and install each one by hand in the order that the hotfixes post in the HFSLIP forum list them it or slipstream them and try again. -
Sounds like the cache.
-
DOH! Absolutely correct! Forgot about that one... Good call! Worked for me before.Except... shoot! Don't see that in the documentation. Bios update maybe??? Funny thing is, the BIOS update (dated 11/10/2000) indicates that this mobo is not that old (???). Can occur because of an overclocked processor or a dirty heatsink.
-
Are you overclocking? If you are, probably isn't stable!
-
Unless it's an XPS, your definitely screwed!
-
Yep. Sounds like the CD drive is older than the PC, from the 1990s!
-
Sorry about not getting the log from HiJackThis. I thought you only wanted the log from SmitFraudFix. Also, the HDD was wiped before 12 AM. Couldn't take it anymore!
-
Yep. It definitely wasn't gone. The same pop-ups, fake Windows security messages and websites opening up! Also, kept on displaying a message about being infected with the Netsky trojan, apparently fake! Seems to get triggered by every file I download!
-
Also, it displays "YOUR PRIVACY IS IN DANGER!".
-
non-overclocked AMDs of that generation were rated for 85C and possibly 90C.

I'm working on someone's Compaq Presario. Also, it will open another Internet Explorer window to this web site: h**p://www.udefender.com/freeware/3/?wmid=6010&mid=MjI6Ojk3OA==&lndid=15&p=1

You're not the only one! I have the same problem, even at almost 2.5 Ghz!
-
Intels have a lower thermal rating than AMDs! 70C is too high. Expect an automatic slowdown and if it gets too higher, expect your processor to possibly turn into 400 mhz!
-
Sounds like possibly permissions problems. Sounds like possibly the required permission settings aren't there.
-
Your CD drive may be bad or have bad habits. Some CD drives like to suddenly spin down and not spin back up!

Can I say this? It's a KNOWN ISSUE BY ME! The only solutions I found are: 1. Slipstream or integrate ALL of the hotfixes. 2. Use AutoPatcher. Apparently, Microsoft won't admit that there's a major bug with Windows Update! I'm NOT the only one with this problem! I saw the dreaded "The update.ver file is not correct." error message on a Dell that I was working on and then I was forced to reinstall Internet Explorer 7 on that PC, probably because the installers of the hotfixes that I was required to reinstall replaced the Internet Explorer 7 files with Internet Explorer 6 files without warning! The first symptom of the bug you're definitely a victim of, for most people, is that when you go back to the update site it lists the same updates! Then when you check the logs, there's the dreaded "The update.ver file is not correct." error message! With this bug, Windows Update WON'T give an error! In fact, Windows Update claims the update was successful! Mods or xper, please sticky this! This is a major bug that I can't believe Microsoft didn't respond to!

non-Intel platform=Better chance of Windows 98 crashing and Windows 98 has been known to cause a serious performance loss! Windows 98 is likely to spontaneously reboot on AMD-platforms! You're better off with an Intel platform!

The second error does sound like DirectX is corrupted. Sorry.

ReBoot Crash with KB918547 and EXPLORER.EXE installs
RJARRRPCGP replied to Fredledingue's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Yep, sounds like it's corrupted. That error message is known to occur if Internet Explorer is being installed and the Internet Explorer installation process fails.
