  1. There is also a new DirectX end user redist that's only 46 MB. There are the the D3DX9 files in it that were previously available only with the SDK or some third party software. Don't know if the other files have changed compared to DirectX 9.0c as it is still called DirectX 9.0c.http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en That shouldn't be a problem. If it works on ME it should work on 98SE as well.
  2. @mamas6667 Install TweakUI if you haven't do so and then go in Control Panel/TweakUI/Explorer/Shortcut Overlay. Tick the appropriate radio button. Click OK. Log-off or reboot. Arrows should be back.
  3. Try Brasso for the scratches on your CD. See here : http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=56005
  4. As it's apparently totally unmoderated down here, I warn you it might not be legal to do that. Those files are copyrighted to MS and no one is entitled to redistribute them AFAIK.
  5. When I double-click on my Windows titlebars they shade like on Linux or Mac : That's Free Shade : http://www.hmmn.org/FreeShade/ When I click on the middle mouse button I launch a menu like on Linux : That's Cool Mouse 97 + an application launcher of your choice : http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Utiliti...l_Mouse_97.html When I do mouse gestures I can do various things such as back and forward in explorer and IE and much more : That's Stroke-It : http://www.tcbmi.com/strokeit/ When I double Right-Click, a menu pops with all my drives that I can browse down to the deepest directories. Double clicking on dirs opens them in Explorer. Left-Clicking on files opens them with the default associated program and right-clicking on files displays their context menu : That's Popup Icons Ex : http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA013430/pr...onsex/main.html Annoying dialog boxes are automatically clicked on the button I have preselected and selected popup windows are automatically closed : That's Click-Off : http://www.johanneshuebner.com/en/clickoff.html My desktop icons background is made transparent and my start menu button is modified : That's Hook99 : http://thunder.prohosting.com/~ladi/e_hook.html I also can hide/unhide desktop icons totally : That's Iconoid : http://www.sillysot.com/ My lost RAM is auto recovered : That's Ram Idle : http://www.woundedmoon.org/win32/ramidl9x.html
  6. I have psapi.dll 5.0.1849.1 in my Diskeeper Lite directory and I was not sure it was used by Diskeeper on my WinME system (I thought it was only for NT systems because of all those missing functions in NTDLL.DLL) so I removed it and tried to run Diskeeper. It bloked at 60%. I then simply added back psapi.dll in the directory and defrag resumed and completed. Psapi is not part of WinME either.
  7. Audio Equalizers for DirectShow players : TFM AudioFilter http://www.tfm.ro/ DC-Graphic EQ http://www.dsp-worx.de/?n=6 For playlist in MPC choose View/Playlist from the menu
  8. It sounds like a very nice little program. Thank you.
  9. I think Help and Support Center is a part of PC Health as it went away when I uninstalled PC Health. Anyway thanks for those clarifications. As for the new ME patches why not sending them to MDGx so that anyone can get them from his site ?
  10. I have just tried the service pack in a virtual machine. It still does crash rundll32 in setupX when trying to install the main update like the previous one did. You could also try to use Gape's new Infex O.3 in alpha3.
  11. You certainly mean rpcrt4.dll. WinMe version is 4.71.3335.0. Q269874 installs 4.71.3336.0.
  12. ...that post was by erpdude, not by one of the win98se Prophets (MDGx, Gape)... I just did a few searches thru forums & google, and nowhere is it mentioned (by the Prophets) that his FIXED ole update breaks anything... (a few of the IE cumul. updates are mentioned as Help-breakers...), and this topic has been rehashed so much, we all should know exactly what Prophet MDGx has (painfully) restated, again, above, regarding it... it's very simple to remember: oleupdate 4526 only needs one of the 4 files to be 4522... and then no probs... very easy. >;] Timeline : Ole update 4526 is first posted by MDGx. Various problems are reported by several users. It is then spotted Oleaut32.dll is responsible for those problems. Then MDGx posts an updated Oleupdate 4526 with an Oleaut32.dll downgraded to version 4522. At this stage erpdude specifically asks a special Oleupdate for Windows ME with ALL files of version 4522 (post quoted by me above). Neither Gape nor MDGx are using WinMe as far as I know. At erpdude's request MDGx then posts a special Oleupdate for WinMe that contains only files of version 4522. Then a few days ago erpdude says 4526 is allright for WinME without elaborating further. As a service pack for WinME is put together by the_guy who does not use WinME either I was just asking confirmation from erpdude that finally 4526 files aren't breaking PC Health on WinME. I use myself WinME but PC Health is deinstalled from my machine since a long time. Can you explain the prophet bit please ? Prophets usually announce something to come so I cannot understand what you mean by calling Gape and MDGx prophets as they are not making announcements of events to come.
  13. Your OLE Automation Update needs to be revised again, MDGx. WinME users should revert back to OLE Automation v2.40.4522 files, ALL of them as v2.40.4526 of the files break ME's Help & Support Center feature. Helpctr in WinME will display a "cannot display page" error message when using v2.40.4526 of asycfilt.dll, oleaut32.dll, olepro32.dll & stdole2.tlb files as I've recently used those files and tested them on my ME machine. Perhaps you may want to create a separate WinME OLE package (2.40.4522) that installs under ME only (like OLEUPWME.EXE). ALL of the OLE Automation files from the KB886765 patch should work properly under Win2k with SP4 installed; Microsoft forgot to mention in support KB article 886765 that the OLE patch requires SP4 to be installed first. however, when I installed the OLE Automation v2.40.4526 fix (including v2.40.4526 of the oleaut32.dll file) under my neighbor's Win98 SE system, things seem to run fine [everything loaded ok]. what was the problem with the oleaut32.dll file? and can you create an OLE automation v2.40.4526 pack that installs under Win95/98/NT4 only? it's just that the OLE Automation 2.40.4526 files loaded ok under WinME but the Help & Support feature stopped working correctly, so I had to switch back to v2.40.4522 of all the OLE Automation files for WinME Help & Support Center to function correctly again. If I've been asking it is because I recalled the above post.
  14. @plop : You should install 98SP before installing 98SE2ME. I believe that those messages are normal due to the fact that many 98SE2ME files are of a superior version than upated 98SE files. Wait for confirmation of that by Gape or MDGx.
  15. Hi erpdude, didn't you just post again recently, in an answer to a question by Petr in the MESP thread, that 4526 breaks PC Health on ME ? :
  16. Excuse me LLX but there is a formula for files up to 1.5 GB on File Factory if you'd care to read it all.

  18. There is no better tool for monitoring installs than InstallWatch Pro. It's free. See this thread on how to use it : http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=49820 It skips some files and locations by default unless you remove skipit.dll from it's folder.

    me - slow

That was merely the suggestion of a likely cause. If you want an answer to this question, uninstall your antivir and run your OS for even just ten minutes without it and see if it makes a big difference. Then post again.
  20. Try Version Peeker : http://www.lorriman.com/software/vpeeker/vpeeker.htm
  21. Yes, of course, shortcuts, see here : http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=57894
  22. Actually in the UK there is only one user of Windows ME and that's me. (Joke) Seriously it must as low or almost as low as in the Czech Republic I believe which bears the question whether a service pack is really worth the effort. Rhelic from the US posted a stat of hits on a website in the form of a graphic the other day. Windows ME did not even appear on it.
  23. Not really important but the checksum algorithm used is SHA1 apparently.
  24. Why would you do this ? Everyone says (me included) that 4.60 performs better.
