  1. (reserving this post for later)
  2. I have opened a separate thread where apps running thanks to KernelEx can be listed : http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=131395 Maybe you want to put a link to it in the first post of this thread xeno.
  3. Allright I think this is a much needed thread. As the title says, it is just meant to list applications that do not normally run under 9x systems but do with KernelEx installed. For anything else, bug reports, feature requests, etc.. please post in the original KernelEx thread.
  4. All right guys, anyone able to make some patch (free or commercial) to transform those 16bit GDI and User segments into significantly bigger segments so that it is possible to run really many apps at once ? Dencorso, if you happen to read this, could you please upload the pdf you made of the older thread that got deleted by mistake a year ago or so, if you still have it ? For the life of me I can't find it anymore on my HDs and I think it would be nice if it could be uploaded because there is quite a good deal of serious discussion about the topic in it if I recall correctly.
  5. Seems to be working great
  6. There is this one as well : http://killbox.net/ Probably easier to use than the two others. Anyway what they are all doing is delete on reboot through wininit.exe/wininit.ini, so they are mostly wininit.ini editors in fact.
  7. You may want to try those : http://www.kraftig.com/installfile.htm http://www.noeld.com/programs.asp?cat=misc#CopyLock2
  8. 180 days isn't a hard trigger, it's just an example - it can happen sooner, if Microsoft so decides - if they blacklists a key, or release a WGA update, etc. If Microsoft triggers a re-validation, your Vista install will ultimately attempt to re-validate, and must be online to do so. However, it seems like this happens 2 to 3 times a year, hence the ask for whether or not the machine was off for 6 months. Amazing What is the rationale behind that if I may ask ?
  9. Now that's just showing off! Not until I figure out how to use all the cores in the Triple Core in Windows 9X. That's very interesting to hear. Any news on the resource expander front btw ?
  10. Here you can get all variations of the flash player should you want to do some testing to see what version suits you best : http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewConten...rnalId=tn_14266
  11. Nice patch dencorso. thanks.
  12. Nice list dude. Here are some suggested additions : Burning Software CD-DVD Burning Graphics (other) Kerkythea Video Tools Wax Text Editor MadEdit Registry Editor RegMagik (last free version) Download Manager Net Transport (last free version) PDF Software Tomahawk PDF+ BeCyPDFMetaEdit Audio Editor Wavosaur Multimedia Conversion DMSI PowerEnc
  13. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Shell Icons] "3"="C:\\Windows\\ClosedFolder.ico,0" "4"="C:\\Windows\\OpenedFolder.ico,0" This should replace the default icons for folders with those specified. You can do this without resorting to edit the registry by hand using a tool such as Desktop Architect for example.
  14. Yeah, the HTA file is actually only a frameset containing 2 html frames. And behind there is loads of html files, one for each page and then one for each tab within each page so it is not all self-contained in one single hta file as you've guessed. Tabs and buttons are simply made using html tables. I'll release the app sometimes this week so you'll be able to have a look at how it's done precisely. Nothing complicated, certainly less complicated than scripting, well at least for me.
  15. Maybe you need to install the Java Media Framework.
  16. I meant smaller in size on screen obviously. Here you can see a template/skeleton HTA app I wrote to cater for my need of organizing the many shortcuts to applications I have and use, etc... As you can see it has several pages, each having several tabs, uses MS Sans Serif as font, uses the default system colors for a seamles visual integration into the system I use.
  17. Today I ate some toasted sandwiches with molten cheese and bacon (mmmh) as well as half a kebab and chips and a fruit salad so far. Don't take badly what I am saying to you, you said it yourself in a post above that it is buggy no ? So how can you expect people to use it ? As for ugly, well it is, I am sorry. Make a poll if you want to be sure about it. HTA apps can be made to look just like plain win32 apps with not too much effort. And they are much neater, leaner, smaller after that IMO even though their functionality is not affected by the cosmetic change. Take this as constructive criticism please. Anyway good luck with your script-enhanced OS project.
  18. Actually I have just downloaded the latest google earth installer here and it's only a 7z self extracting archive which you can extract with 7-Zip or IzArc. Then browse to the google earth executable and double click on it and it runs. It has never been easier than that. Earlier versions required lots of tricks to run. Both with the installer and the program (or its dlls can't remember too well) itself.
  19. No I don't use it. I am using WAssociate very satisfactorily since years for my context menu so I would not use a buggy script with an ugly GUI instead. Well at least you got an answer.
  20. The only files you eventually want from that package in addition to the latest DirectX 9 for 98-ME are the more recent D3DX9 files. And those need to be fixed a bit by alterating a required OS value in the header as RetroOS wrote above and then they should work on a stock 98 install, I mean one without KernelEx. Is this any helpfull ?
  21. Please explain that statement. In my experience, getting SATA to work on a fresh win-98 install (on an Asrock motherboard) was easier than doing the same with XP. There was basically nothing special to be done. After installation, win-98 will be running in compatibility mode until you run the Via Arena driver install. The great thing about using SATA drives in NON-IDE compatibility mode is that you can use drives larger than 137 gb. Yeah but do you mean installing the OS on a SATA drive (which what you quote is about I think) or do you mean installing on an IDE drive and setting up SATA afterwards (which is indeed no problems) ?
  22. Go ahead and buy your OEM 98SE without any worries IMO. I think Microsoft can't apply new licence rules on stuff they sold in the past.
  23. Nearly 100% of the software one can download on eMule is illegal isnt'it ? I am willing to learn stuff but you'll have to elaborate on that one in depth to make me swallow it.
  24. I don't use eMule much those days but I don't recall having had a problem with a setting higher than 100 (200 I believe) on Windows ME.
