  1. It boots twice as fast as win98 because it avoids this real DOS bootstrap on start. It's got solid got native USB mass storage drivers. Supports nearly 2GB of RAM without a shareware patch versus 1GB on 98. It has a registry that is much more resilient to extreme bloat than the 98 one. It looks exactly the same as Win2K. As for the new useless features which are essentially System Restore and System File Protection, they are easy to remove and it is debatable whether they are actually useless or not. I personally removed them BTW as well as a few other things such as WIA and UNPNP. And BTW as well, I am unable to crash it on request.
  2. Seriously learn your software a bit. It is not difficult to find out how to do that in Acrobat 5. I am not too familiar with it as I bought it two or three weeks ago only and did not do much with it since but it took me only five minutes to find two different methods I could use to do what you want to do. Perhaps it is easier to find because it must be more basic than the current acrobat. Anyhow, how about appending new scans to the opened pdf document ? Or inserting new pages to the open pdf document from another pdf document ?
  3. Well Windows Me is the OS I am rather hapilly using since years now. What is so wrong with it ? I have never really understood why people diss it that much.
  4. I don't think VB.NET2005/2008 runs on win98 at all.
  5. All (presumably as tested only on the freebies) Melda Productions VST plugins. http://www.meldaproduction.com/
  6. BTW what TravisO says is not correct I think. Running XP will not make your system run twice as fast on a dual core than on a similarly clocked single core. It certainly won't do that. It will boost applications whose calculations can be parallelized and that have been coded specifically for that or it will allow you to use two CPU intensive apps on a core each for example but the system won't be faster at any rate as the system runs on one core only AFAIK.
  7. Rudolf Loew, the guy who did the RAM patch, has said in a post that he was working on a patch to add multiple core support to Win 98SE/ME if I am not not mistaken. It will be an interesting shareware to buy if he suceeds.
  8. Wings3D 1.0 seems to work OK. The file erlang.exe must be put in 2K compatibility mode for it to work. http://www.wings3d.com/
  9. I thought I'd mention here this Legacy Extender commercial package I have just come across. It seems they have been reading this forum and topic but they don't mention it explicitely. http://www.legacyextender.com/company/
  10. We'll see but today the potential exist for the situation I am joking about to happen. You just don't want to see it because you are MS fanboys IMO. And listen to that. Last month I bought a second hand boxed copy of Sonic Foundry Soundforge 5 on eBay. When I received it I discovered that two components of the software package were requiring online activation, the bundled Vegas Audio LE application and the pack of audio restoration plugins, so I went to the Sony website to activate them and entered the unique temporary serial numbers printed in the software documentation. Well I got the immediate answer that the party was over, the software has been activated too many times already, blah, blah, thank you.
  11. Does Jetico 2 support 98SE/ME ? I thought it was only for 2K/XP.
  12. Really? I think the last version running on 98SE/ME is 2.2.17 which is way older than 6 months. I could never run a version higher than that one with or without KernelEx. Yes, Skype (without video) install with MSI (!) install pack without KernelEx. I provide this version: http://windows98.ic.cz/media/skype3b.zip New version MSI Skype - Skype 4.0 for Windows Business version with (MSI) Sorry I was just refering to the Gimp, not Skype.
  13. Really? I think the last version running on 98SE/ME is 2.2.17 which is way older than 6 months. I could never run a version higher than that one with or without KernelEx.
  14. I think you are twisting the meaning of what you are quoting. Nowhere in that is it said that there are two only alternatives which are, activation wil carry on beyond the end of XP lifecycle, or a patch will be provided, as you interpret it erroneously. They only say activation will be supported until the end of the product lifecycle, and that after that a patch is likely to be provided to make activation unnecessary. That's all they are saying. IMO it will require enormous pressure on Microsoft for them to release such a patch after they will have already "generously" extended the lifecycle of XP and the activation services two or three times at no extra cost.
  15. They don't say they will. They only say it is likely they will. At this point in time it is certain you own your 98SE/ME OS but it is far less certain for XP. It all depends on what Microsoft will do when XP lifecycle ends. Saying they will likely provide a patch is not even a promise they are going to do so, so it's worth even less than promises of a politician on the campain trail IMO. We'll see but my opinion is that they don't intend to provide a patch.
  16. It's going to be fun when they are going to shut down the servers and services for XP activation No such problem at the horizon for 98SE/ME

  18. Thanks for the headup Tihiy. I was only wondering because I saw all the stuff there is in the ctrl-alt-del panel, the quite big bitmap notably, but if you say it's all optimized, no worries. I'll try without the other dlls and see how it fares. Looking forward trying the new RP9 with the new User optimizations.
  19. Hi, as i mentioned to dencorso by PM some time ago, I could not install RP9 properly because it turned out my registry was damaged since a couple of months. Since this has been repaired I have now been using minimal install of RP9 since a few weeks and it seems stable enough here. There seem to be a little benefit with the resource usage but they end up getting depleted anyway. Perhaps your new fix will make this better. Anyway, the point of this post is asking you tihiy whether there is a possibility you could release this resource optimizer as a standalone dll who could be installed without installing the rest of RP9. I am guessing you got into doing such an optimizer to offset the cost of RP9 in resources and I am imagining that if RP9 wasn't there along the optimizer I would see an increase in free resource on fresh boot of perhaps 10% instead of 1 or 2%.
  20. You've said above you download an average of 5 to 10 infected files per day. So what was infected for example today and with what in your downloads ? Give us a list please, don't be so unhelpful. Other than that and out of curiosity I was just wondering if those keygen.exe, that sometimes don't run on 98 as you've mentioned above, come together with those digitally signed executable you deem safe and those nfo files you spoke about in another thread ?
  21. So dencorso, you're using a firewal on an external router, what's the benefit of that ? I don't seem to see any as it will block only incoming traffic if I am not mistaken.
  22. Can you give us some precise examples of what files you need to delete from your eDonkey/Kademlia download because they are infected ?
  23. Are you serious when you say this ?
  24. For a start I think that Flash games are generally amongst the most stupid things there are on the internet... No one forces anyone to create Flash websites, there aren't many btw, so there is no wrong being made. Totally untrue! Totally untrue! etc...
