  1. Yeah, don't seem to be any patches for it.. I had already tried the graphics corruption fix (1.1) but it doesn't do anything...
  2. After installing Win2k3 again, suspecting a game wasn't working on Win2k because of the OS, I ran into what I think is an incompatibility with Vice City and Win2k3. With Windows 2000 Professional, I'd never get the LOADING screen during gameplay so that it could finish loading textures etc in the area.. but with Win2k3 it seems to do it all the time. Evidently it can't calculate the circle of detail or however the game handles loading... and was curious if any of you would have ideas for fixing this? I've tried compatibility modes, but no go. Gonna go crazy if I end up installing Win2k again...
  3. How much do you truly think they changed in this *Server* OS? It ran all my games fine, and I got the same speeds as I do in Win2K.. just because its intended to be a server OS doesn't mean it can't be a good workstation, it just simply runs servers better than any previous OS :/
  4. You can run fine with only these set running: DHCP Client Event Log Plug and Play (if you want this) Remote Procedure Call Security Accounts Manager Windows Management Instrumentation Workstation Optional for Workstation: Windows Audio Themes Run these if you share files over a LAN: Server Network Connections Distributed File System You'll need Cryptographic Services running to install Directx9, then you can pretty much disable it. Turn off all error reporting or Volume Shadow Copy will popup after booting your computer, but it doesn't harm anything.. just close the popup hehe
  5. As far as I know you cannot set an avatar for your accounts in Windows 2003. As far as the boot menu goes, you can set it to autologin and also tweak the registry so it uses a theme of your choice for bootup/shutdown windows. You can find that information in MSFN's Windows 2003 --> Workstation guide For the autologin.. umm.. Start Menu-->Run-->Regedit-->HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon Set/Create the following keys to the following string (REG_SZ) values: AutoAdminLogon "1" DefaultPassword "your password you'd like to automatically login with" DefaultUsername "your username you'd like to automatically login with"
  6. You'd better find and delete the *.inf file its using to reinstall the older drivers. It can be a bit tedious, but last time I checked I think it installed manual *.inf's in a separate folder Once you remove that, it won't install any older drivers.. allowing you to umm.. either get rid of it completely or to have it default to newer drivers
  7. Run the installer in Compatibilty Mode for Windows XP
  8. I dunno.. I know it really messes up if you change it to zero.. but as for the Listing in the Add/Remove app, it lags just as much as it always has, same as when I used Win2k Pro. But the lag I get only lasts about 200ms, which isn't bad My MenuShowDelay = 1
  9. Yeah it can be a pain.. so far I don't think theres any workarounds to this problem. If you're lucky, the buttons already work in games. In quake3 Mouse4 works but not Mouse5.. stinks.. then in some games it detects them but won't use them in the game haha.. hmm I switched around some keys using the scancode method, and the only way I can think of solving our problem is doing it with the mouse somehow.. since before I had to remap the mouse buttons to get it to work
  10. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon Create the string DefaultPassword with the value set as your password Make sure string DefaultUserName exists and that the value is set to your username
  11. All the folders exist guys.. someone just didn't put the full paths down.. if you look through them, you'll find them Or just do the search
  12. I don't know.. maybe Win2k3 uses a different keyboard driver? It shows up as Unknown5D in Postal2... HAH
  13. I don't notice much of a difference between Win2K3 and Win2000 (had only a short experience with XP) when looking through registry and files etc... I think the biggest leap in OS support was when it switched to the NT kernel and then to the added enhancements of XP... Besides, its a server OS and I think a majority of the changes were in favor of customer-driven (outta installation commentary LOL) requests and improved network components of the system (or in other words, Windows XP without the extras and then some)... I doubt this will affect any games or applications considering they just build each OS off its predecessor Everything I've installed so far has worked fine... using XP installations. I'm just making a guess that game support won't really be needed for this OS considering how closely it resembles WinXP I just hope developers will make flexible software instead of going "OMG I DONT KNOW YOUR OS THEREFORE I WONT INSTALL" (most of them already do tho)
  14. Well Postal2 detects all the mouse buttons and the Menu/List key... so I guess its just something about Quake3? Then again Mouse4 doesn't work in Postal2 but it does in Quake3
  15. Because I hadn't changed anything.... and it seemed unlikely like installing a few programs would do it... so have you changed anything in the registry? or maybe a configuration for the system? most of all.. has it been doing this since you installed the OS, or has it begun recently?
