What's your reason? Script files are softwares with the only difference that the code is visible. Is it because there are not ".exe" file? Is it because it require a WSHost5.6? Or is it because they have no real interface? Or because it looks amateurish? Or because scripts can carry viruses? Sure it's not realy executable, they don't qualify for standalone software and I don't pretend they are more than for what it is. But they work pretty well. They don't make difference with some exe files I"v seen sometimes. Please note that none of my script us the IE interface which is very slow and not realy VBscript but rather PHP. Soon I will release a new version of CorrectFileName.vbs I'm also working on a great project of right-clic menu tools written pruely in vbs...But because it has to work with the registry it won't be realy standalone. Sorry to disgress... -
So I'm clueless? Please tell me what IE7 has more than IE5+MAXTHON... It's good feed for debate IMO.

I feel safe with w98se SP2. I'm a normal internet home user and never got a virus. I run frequently antiVir and one or two wellknown anti-spyware and they rarely find anything serious. The good thing about w98 is that a virus designed to work on XP may not work on your machine.
-
IMO most of XP-only drivers will work very well on w98se but you can't be sure because they didn't test it on w98se. Of course since they don't develop it for this OS.
-
So how many hundreds of Mb makes IE7? ...while you can get MAXTHON for free and on 1Mb...

Some cool standalone that I wrote... I recommand these 3 ones (the others are more specificaly for my own personal use) Dingue_Calculator_eng.0.1.0 Unit Convertor: Size: 14 Kb -A simple calculator and unit convertor. -Convert many units to many many units... -Convert filesizes (Kb to Mb etc) -See a full list of the operations that you have been doing in real time -Save the operations and the results inn a text file -See the saved file in Notepad. -Batch processing: process an infinite number of operations saved in a text file and save the results in another text file.(W95 and 98 only)(Optional) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Clean_HTM.0.0.5 Size: 3 Kb -Removes garbage, scripts, unsaved images references and other internet connection triggers from the source code of htm or html files saved on your hard disk. -No more red-cross boxes and useless automatic connection.. -Creates subfolders automaticaly to save the original files for safety. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FixFileName.0.0.4 Size: 4 Kb -Rename files by replacing illegal characters which are specific to your language set by normal, international ones. The wrong characters may be valid within the language set of your computer, but not anymore when you transfer these files to another computer, making the file unreadable. -

Hi! xnView is mentioned twice... http://standalone.atspace.org/ImageTools.html -
I didn't read your last post. But try playing with the frame rate as I axplained above. If it realy realy doesn't work try Audacity to modify the audio sampling rate (I did it once but I don't remeber how to do it)

1/ Download Virtual Dub 2/ Open in Virtual Dub the movie with the english soundtrack 3/ Clic file, save wav 4/ Open the movie in hungarian 5/ Clic on video, set on direct stream copy (important) 6/ Clic on audio, wav audio and select the wav file you saved 7/ Clic File, save as avi 8/ DO NOT close vD 9/ play your movie at the beginning, the middle and the end 10/ Clic on video, framerate and modify the frame rate to make the soundtrack patch with the movie. 11/ If you are lucky you will succeed after 3, 4 or 5 times to get it in synch'. 12/ When the movie is synchronized, clic on audio, select full processing mode, then clic compression, mp3, and choose mp3 compression ratio. 13/ If you'r not lucky, the audio sampling rate are not the same (one movie was playing slowlier than the other) and you will need to edit the soudntrack in an audio editor but that's difficult to do if you are not used to.

Yes, AFAIK, cellphones are using Java. The program should be as small as possible I imagine. -
renaming a file using VBS?
Fredledingue replied to a topic in Programming (C++, Delphi, VB/VBS, CMD/batch, etc.)
Is also working to move or rename a file '-------------------- Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") Set aFile = fso.GetFile("output.dat") aFile.Move "intput.bak" -
We know by experience that uSP doesn't work for everybody, question of chance. My advice is to re)install w98 over with the original cd. Using the uninstall may cause your PC to be unable to restart. I ignore if the uninstall bug was solved or not in the last version.

Kelsenellenelvian "Also how about making a way for it to be a true replacement for the windows Calc?" Delete the shortcut to calc.exe and replace it by a shortcut to this software. Isn't it simple?

I'v tried it on w98se sp2. It works fine it seems. I don't want to look discouraging but there are dozen of free calculators available.... Even myslelf, I have written a calculator like that one except that, written in VBscript it has no real interface. (I'm not intending to sell it althought the code must be considered as copyrighted.) I use V for "square root" and parentheses are not requiered except when you need to explicitely separate groups. Clic on my signature.

Well, first we should know what's the object and function to do "SMBIOS/DMI query to extract BIOS release" and if there is one at all. It's impossible to find out unless somedy tell it to you. Second to run VBScript WSH should be installed, then it would run after windows is already installed. In case the password is not valid, the script could write a line in autoexec.bat that deltree the whole windows folder when the computer reboot (reformat require user confirmation but not deltree).

huh, I was not kidding! Anyway I think brain implants will be copatible with w98... Just install a driver and you can browse your own brain, moving and deleting files with Explorer, freeing your memory, defragment it etc

I agree OpenOffice takes less resource, is smaller (that's not difficult against M$ softwares) and (almost) as complete as MS Office. As I said: The ONLY reason I'm using MS office is the "search and replace" advanced options. On Open Office it's hardly as advanced as that of Notepad. I know it's a little thing, but important for me.
-
I use MS office only for the search find-and-replace advanced features that doesn't exists in Open Office. except that I found Open Office to be identical to MS office except about price. I'm using OfficeXP and very satisfied with it.
-
I'm pretty sure it's illegal unless he pay royalties to M$ or whoever wrote this stuff. It's always stipulated in the user agreement that the software is free to use but you can't sell it.
-
Well, Eiger may be a good upgrade for NT, but not for w98 unless you used w98 for what it was not especialy build for. I will move to XP when they will start paying users for using it.
