ive been working on trying to figure out how to get steam and newer programs to run under windows xp and can't find anyway right now to do it (except for the now illegal extended kernal type thing for xp) and was wondering what the best legal way to get these programs to work would be if anyone could help with this it would be much appreciated

server 2019 is what I would suggest for an is (its based off build 1809 the last good windows 10 build) ive used it before a few years ago and have never had an issue with running it (accept for that some app can't be used on it)

has there been a solution found yet for steam on windows vista? ive been working on trying to get it to work using mina7601s os spoof method but that still does not seem to work right (it install the update but won't load steam after that)

windows 10 is officially in the "legacy" windows category which means it will slowly get harder to find things that work on it

windows xp is still a great os option if you know how to stay safe when you use it

ya I should of not been so down when I said that (it not good to be sad!) and legacy windows is not dead!

this was valve's statement on the discontinuation of steam Windows 7 and Windows 8 Support As of January 1 2024, Steam will officially stop supporting the Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 operating systems. After that date, the Steam Client will no longer run on those versions of Windows. In order to continue running Steam and any games or other products purchased through Steam, users will need to update to a more recent version of Windows. This change is required as core features in Steam rely on an embedded version of Google Chrome, which no longer functions on older versions of Windows. In addition, future versions of Steam will require Windows feature and security updates only present in Windows 10 and above. Although support won't end until 2024, we strongly encourage all Windows 7/8/8.1 users to update sooner rather than later. Microsoft ended security updates and technical support for Windows 7 in January 2020 and for Windows 8.1 in January 2023. Computers running these operating systems, when connected to the internet, are susceptible to new malware and other exploits which will not be patched. That malware can cause your PC, Steam and games to perform poorly or crash. That malware can also be used to steal the credentials for your Steam account or other services. (so starting january 1st a extended kernal type thing will be needed to run it)

I'm working on making some legacy windows vms for testing purposes and can't figure out how I can pasthru my 1030 to the vm if anyone could help with this it would be much appreciated (ive even done research into this and still can't find a solution)
