http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/dell-precision-m6700-owners-thread.682401/page-233 I guess it can be disabled on m6700 too 1. I wouldn't consider the AMD gpus as an option since the firepro m6000 and m6100 are worse than a 960m 2. m6600 is ok.. I mean it supports 2nd gen extreme i7 cpus but the 3rd gen ones are like 10% faster and you can live in peace knowing that you own the best vista compatible laptop but I don't know what's the best gpu you can put in that thing.. a lot of people say that they can't get the quadro k series working so I doubt the m series will work.. I love talking about things I will probably never own -

So according to this.. the m6700 has optimus but I guess it can be disabled? https://i.dell.com/sites/csdocuments/Shared-Content_data-Sheets_Documents/en/us/Dell-Precision-M6700-Spec-Sheet-tab.pdf Well this guy upgraded to a gtx 980m.. I haven't watched the whole video tho https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZWkwzUvrQk -

I can't find any nv_dspi.inf but I found nv_dispi.inf and there was no mention of any mobile gpu except some random tesla and quadro models BUT in the ListDevices.txt in the root folder I found all mobile gpus (including gtx 980m and m5000m).. I'm not sure what to believe.. I own an asus 920m laptop and I really want to try on it but it has a 4th gen i3 cpu which won't let me do much.. the keyboard does not work when I boot into the vista installer neither the touch pad and usb ports -

ok, will try that yo man I think my internet provider won't let me download what drivers I want cuz I can't find a driver for 780m too well yes, but there are also laptops with 3rd gen upgradable intel CPUs (best CPU I think is i7 3940XM) and upgradable GPUs HP 8770w is an example. I saw a lot of people using 900 series GPUs on this model (980m; 970m) and quadro GPUs like m5000m -

I don't have a laptop with a gtx 980m to test the drivers to see if they are working If you go to the supported products page you can't see any mobile gpu.. are you sure these are compatible with mobile stuff too? -
The windows experience index no longer works https://imgur.com/JIYX3B0 I don't care about it but just to let you know

The best GPU for desktops that has official drivers from nvidia for windows vista is GTX TITAN X and for mobile/laptops is GTX 680MX (at least from what I understand from the nvidia drivers download website) -

How to get a ISO of Vista updated to 2017 EOS
winvispixp replied to asdf2345's topic in Windows Vista
Wouldn't it be easier if you used what greenhillmaniac has in his repository ? I haven't checked your updates tho but it's a great way to compare to see if you or he missed something -

winvispixp replied to asdf2345's topic in Windows Vista
now that's why you should use dism++ it has a tab called "Disk Clean-up" select everything as you won't need any of that crap. I was able to get -12gb on the C: drive and -~2gb on the final iso. -
this might not work the first try.. mine worked the 4th time make sure you have these updates first: https://mega.nz/file/OwggEIAQ#MqNKI0OqeFZui9Ou8oYHraD1djUGZFH07rt2Bi5t5SM

Well that's true but this "patch" makes it work again: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/restore-windows-update-for-vista.82336/ I don't know if windows update will find every update it used to find let's say 3 years ago... I think a few of them got deleted after the windows update SHA-1 based endpoints got discontinued (I hope I'm wrong) in aug 2020 I still recommend using dism++ and what @greenhillmaniac provided here:

UPDATE: I found the problem The problem is vmware workstation 16 player. I've downgraded to version 15 and now everything works fine and also doesn't f*ck up vmware tools versions (player 16 downloaded vmware tools too new for windows vista and so you had to manually download the right ones) Download link for vmware player 15.5.6 if anyone needs it: https://my.vmware.com/en/web/vmware/downloads/details?downloadGroup=PLAYER-1556&productId=800&rPId=47861

So yesterday I installed windows vista ultimate x64 in a vm in vmware player 16 and after enabling the aero theme I saw that dwm.exe is using like 200 MB of ram. A few minutes later I can see it at 1.2 GB (I gave the vm 4gb of ram in total) where it switches back to windows vista basic theme and now it's consuming about 2 MB. Is anyone else having this problem? Last time I used vista in vmware (player 15 not 16 tho) it was behaving normal.. Reinstalled it twice and the same thing happens. *No updates, just sp2 / fresh install using MSDN ISO and no other programs are installed*

yooo the first time I used windows vista.. I think it was in 2008 or 2009 on a fujitsu amilo li 2727 it had a pentium t2310 2gb of ram 160gb 5400rpm hdd gma x3100 windows vista home basic It was awesomeee I used it till 2013 or 2014 when there was a power shortage and that killed it sadly I still have it but it needs a chipset replacement and a "new" plastic display cover I can run vista on my main pc i7 3770; 8gb ram; 120gb ssd; 1tb hdd, gtx 1060 (i know the drivers aren't optimised for vista which sucks) but I choose windows 10 because sometimes my mom uses it for browsing and internet banking -
i used this method to make my own updated iso: https://www.techrepublic.com/blog/windows-and-office/use-reverse-integration-to-slipstream-windows-vista-sp1-and-sp2/ for "automatic" update installation i used dism++ this is mainly for service pack integration but works with any other update (and net framework/directx) ps: before performing step 6 use dism++ to cleanup unnecessary files
-
use dism++ you should update until eol before trying to "install" the extended kernel it should be working i don't know but you can try both and use them for a while then see what the differences are and who does the job better

my vista installation must be broken.

1st. Why don't you install netframework 4.6 or 4.6.1 (this one can be installed even if on the download page says minimum req is windows 7) even 4.7.2 works if you extract the installer with winrar or 7zip and run netfx_Full_x64.msi (for 64 bit systems) or netfx_Full_x86.msi (for 32 bit /x86 systems) 2. Are you using an official ISO to install windows vista?
