Took a while to decide whether to make this post or not but since I'm bored and 2 people on this planet might find this useful here it goes: If you have a Fujitsu Li 2727 laptop and you experience problems here's what you can try: First of all make sure you update the bios to the latest version (v1.10); I burned it to a DVD (because I didn't have any clean CDs and the method from windows didn't work) and booted from the DVD *if you burn the ISO to a CD or DVD and then see nothing on it, don't panic, it's there, but you can't see it for some reason https://archive.org/details/fts-biosflash-isocdimage-amiloli-2727-110-1037109 2. Start with a clean install of vista (or any OS but here I'm talking about windows vista); this is optional but I highly recommend doing it especially if you rarely or even never reinstalled it 3. Make sure you install the wifi card driver first: https://archive.org/details/fujistu-siemens-li-2727-drivers here you can find all the drivers for this laptop; the official drivers taken from https://support.ts.fujitsu.com/ *if you have upgraded you wireless card, like me, or you changed it for any reason with other model you can try this driver: https://archive.org/details/ar-5-b-95-ar-9285-vista-7.7.0.384-whql this one works with AR9285/AR5B95 but with many other models too (from Atheros) so you can give it a shot; it needs to be installed thru device manager (right click on "computer", then on manage, then on the left side of the new window click on device manager; the thing you're looking for is unknown network controller or something along these lines, it has a yellow exclamation mark on it, under the network adapters list, right click it then press on the button that says update driver. you need search on your computer the folder where you extracted the drivers; don't let it search on the web or with windows update automatically because it won't work and it's just a waste of time) *same thing applies to the old/stock wifi card, AR5BXB63/AR5007EG *the touchpad driver also needs to be installed thru device manager under the "Mice and other pointing devices" tab 4. Install the other drivers; I think you can install them in any order *After you install the launch manager press FN+F1 and make sure your wifi card is enabled 5. Install this https://archive.org/details/intel-iirt-sp-47845 Without it you won't be able to install any windows update. Don't ask me why you need this, I encountered a lot of errors while installing updates and after searching on the web I found this solution. 6. Install windows updates **first of all install the updated root certificates from here https://archive.org/details/rootsupd , you absolutely need them https://msfn.org/board/topic/181756-windows-vista-update-repository-until-april-2017/ here you can find all the updates for windows vista until EOL (end of life; april 2017) *this will slow down your laptop *if you won't install the extended kernel I don't suggest you to install them, but you can do whatever you want https://msfn.org/board/topic/176686-server-2008-updates-on-windows-vista/#comment-1139171 here are some windows server 2008 updates that can be installed on windows vista too (I don't think they are all, but at least the SHA2 support and TLS 1.2 for IE9 updates are here) *I think you can install any netframework version (not sure tho; 4.6 is the last to support vista; 4.6.1 installs fine; newer must be extracted with winrar or 7zip and run from there) 7. If you installed the updates you might as well give the extended kernel a shot https://msfn.org/board/topic/181612-wip-windows-vista-extended-kernel/#comments this is the original page, where everything started vistaexkernsetup_02262021 is the latest to work without windows server 2008 updates (and the most stable in my opinion as of 22 may 2021) vistaexkernsetup_05142021 and newer require SHA2 support (and possibly other updates too) 8. I think that's all, if you have the extended kernel you can run much more recent versions of programs (firefox 88.0.1 is the latest as of 22 may 2021 and works perfectly; the last version to support vista is 52.9.0 ESR) Here you can find a list with the latest versions programs that work on vista without ex. kernel https://msfn.org/board/topic/175262-last-versions-of-software-for-windows-vista-and-windows-server-2008/ Obviously if you have it you can try newer versions. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I will make a small upgrade "guide" for this laptop here too: CPU: The max. CPU that you can put in this laptop is a T9500 followed by T9300, T8300; more info here https://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_(chipsets)/GL960_Express.html You need at least bios v1.07 for it to work I changed my T2310 with a T2390 and then with a T8300; also this is a little friendly reminder to sometimes change the thermal paste on your CPU and clean the dust inside RAM: The chipset model is GL960 which officially supports only 2GB of RAM. There are people that got it working with 3GB and possibly even 4GB I got myself a 2x2GB DDR2 ADATA 800mhz kit. The bios recognizes all 4GB of RAM but then when booting into windows vista it throws a BSOD PFN_LIST_CORRUPT 0x0000004E (which refers to the page file which is correlated with ram). Trying to reinstall windows won't help because when booting off of your USB device or DVD you will get the same BSOD I got it working with 3GB but it's a bit funky. You need to play around with the sticks of ram until you get a working config. Sometimes it works, sometimes it gives you a BSOD until you put the modules in the right order, then it will work without any error forever. (If you get a BSOD, shut down the laptop, unplug it, remove the battery, resettle the modules, press the power button a few times and THEN put the battery back and plug it in; repeat this process until it's stable and boots into windows) Storage: You can put a SSD or SSHD. I have a 120GB SSD which works perfectly (but I think you're limited to SATA II speeds) If you wonder if a caddy fits, I don't know what to say because I don't plan to replace the DVD drive with a caddy (the DVD drive uses an IDE port) Wireless card: As you can tell, I upgraded mine to an AR5B95 from Atheros (it shows up as an AR9285 tho ). It supports IEEE 802.11b/g/n (150 mbps max.) standards compared to the stock card which only goes up to IEEE 802.11b/g (54 mbps max.) I use 2 antennas, I don't know if both work but they are in place anyways GPU: You can't upgrade it, it has integrated graphics and no slot for a dedicated GPU I don't know if mods like this work https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPgIomyXQKM That's about it! Got it working I don't know why but with both wireless cards I had to reinstall the windows. You MUST install the network driver BEFORE any other driver If anyone else has this problem, try this. Also if you have the same laptop as me you should get the launch manager from the official fujitsu website located in the "applications" tab. Install it then restart then press Fn + F1 to open it and make sure that your wifi card is on (after that it should stay on forever if you have the latest bios)

about that i dont know what happened to that install or how i made it to work but now on newer installs its still broken

on mega you can see a folder named "replacement explorer" as the name suggests there you can find a different version of explorer that you have now replace the old one with this one in C:\Windows boot from the usb or dvd or whatever you have, open cmd, then notepad, then click on "save as" (make sure to change from seeing only .txt files in the right bottom corner on notepad) i had the same problem and thats how i got rid of it

You are supposed to install the older OS first (vista) Make sure you install it on a MBR partitioned drive what are your pc specs?

any news? perhaps you know a method to get newer steam clients to work? (i wanna get cs:go running)

the windows 7 drivers might work I use an oem lenovo motherboard (M72e) which doesn't have vista drivers but the ones for win 7 work without any problem

Great to hear that progress is being made! Also, kinda off topic but here it goes I "discovered" that if you uninstall kb4474419 the build number goes back to 6002 (from 6003) which was to be expected but do the updates that required it still "work" properly? (if that makes any sense)
