  1. Solved the problem with monochrome emoji on Windows 7 and display emoji on Windows XP using Twemoji for chrome extension. https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/twemoji-for-chrome/fopgafjdjlongoeblobbafbnapafcicg Emoji are downloaded online, so the extension itself is very small and does not use much memory. This is how it was on Win XP:
  2. 1. Some systems have this problem but not all, can't figure out what the cause is yet. 2. New versions of Chrome optimize for SSD, so it takes a long time to start on HDD, defragmentation speeds it up a bit, but it's still far away from the startup speed on SSD. 3. Memory consumption is relatively small, depends on the amount of RAM, for example on a netbook with 1GB of memory after startup Chrome uses 300MB, but on a computer with 4GB of memory already 500MB. It also strongly depends on the number of installed extensions, for example one uBlock Origin uses 100MB of RAM. I tested on a similar computer, C2D E6700 4GB RAM, XP x64, 32 and 64 bit version of Supermium. 32 bit version is even a bit faster, but memory consumption is a bit less, so it is not necessary to use 64 bit version on x64 OS.
  3. On XP x64 there is no problem with memory usage.
  4. The processor is exactly what affects this. I have tested Supermium on many different computers, from a very low-end Atom to an i7, but the problems with freezing or inability to start have only occurred on a single-core processor. On one system it doesn't start at all, on another it starts, but every action causes the CPU to load at 100% for a long time. The developer is aware of this problem, maybe in future updates it will be solved.
  5. What kind of processor do you have? Single-core?
  6. It shows, but it is not called WMV, but VC-1. I found (with great difficulty) a wmv video, this is what MediaInfio says: Format : VC-1 Format profile : MP@ML Codec ID : WMV3 Codec ID/Info : Windows Media Video 9 Codec ID/Hint : WMV3 Description of the codec : Windows Media Video 9
  7. Most likely h265 only works on DXVA2, when I checked GTX950 on XP, there was no h265 support there either, although the video card itself supports both Main and Main10. Or it's a limitation of the driver, they just didn't add h265 support.
  8. Oops, for some reason the files from the 7+ version are in the folder. I've reuploaded the correct version. I found that it requires .Net 3.5 and C++ 2008.
  9. I have an older version of DXVAChecker that runs on XP. Requires .Net 3.5 and C++ 2008. https://mega.nz/file/22ZAWbqR#y9Z_5AsLv32ehk1gaPpES-vupPj6fzn48uZCOrxXhiY
  10. The system requirements for version 17 include Win XP. So it looks like all versions are supported. Too bad there's no trial version. And they also have this image on their site comparing translators, maybe you can find older versions of them that work on XP.
  11. Big list, and very diverse. Of the offline programs, probably only Power Translator in the World edition supports so many languages. The problem of all old translators is that the translation is word-for-word, i.e. each word is translated separately from the context of the whole sentence, so the translation is too "machine-like", it is difficult to read and even difficult to understand what is meant. If you choose something modern that works on Win 7, they make an offline translator for Firefox, but it only works on websites. DeepL is also for Win 7 and even the installed program requires internet to work.
  12. What language do you need to translate from? Because offline translators have a limited selection of languages, so you should start your search depending on the languages.
  13. Is that a Silicon Image SiI 3112? It's very old and even with 1TB disks it has problems. I had such a controller, 750GB disks worked without problems, but 1TB disks were sometimes lost. And if I connected both 750GB and 1TB disks at the same time, both were lost.
  14. Disabling Steam client auto-updates. In the Steam folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam), create a Steam.cfg file with the text: BootStrapperInhibitAll=Enable, set the attribute "Read Only". Disable Steam's autorun. In the Steam shortcut on the desktop, add the following parameter: -noverifyfiles -nobootstrapupdate -skipinitialbootstrap -norepairfiles -overridepackageurl
  15. Sometimes you may see 2-3 chrome.exe processes in Task Manager, but the browser won't start. Then you should terminate the processes and try to start again. Sometimes you need to do this 3-4 times until the window finally appears.
  16. Try to download the original version, it opens the site only at the first launch, it does not open anymore. Unpack the browser to the simplest possible path, for example C:\M115xp\. And it starts from just running chrome.exe, without additional parameters There is already a thread dedicated to this browser:
  17. Maybe you need the popup sound, but this setting has been disabled for some reason and hidden in the sound settings since Vista. But it can still be enabled through the registry. Try to enable it by extracting notifications.wav from the archive to the C:Windows\Media folder and then apply the registry file. https://mega.nz/file/ynwEhYaQ#kixmRH0ONBFMrDmtM_zYGk264SFYEVpeLBn1PtYll3s
  18. Any motherboard on 775 socket, starting with 965 chipset and up to the newest ones, will suit your requirements. Do not choose nForce, SIS, VIA, the performance of these chipsets is lower than that of Intel. For example ASUS P5Q SE2. You can also take a motherboard with DDR-3, this memory is now cheaper than DDR-2. About the video card - it depends on the games, some old games do not detect new video cards and therefore there may be problems. So write a list of games, then you can search if they have problems. But if you take the compatibility of motherboard, video card and OS, then any card will do, even 950/960, depending on the price.
  19. Yes, you can use Haali Video Renderer, but it has one bug, if the video resolution is close to or equal to the screen resolution, then for some reason the video opens reduced. No, codecs still optimize, for example on Core 2 Duo E6700 Conroe, 2.66 GHz, you can watch FHD h264, h265 and VP9, only for FHD AV1 lacks performance and it slows down, but 720p goes smoothly.
  20. If you need the 64 bit driver, as far as I know, the latest windows-xp-amd-catalyst-9.00.300.3005-dec9, 11/29/2014. But it doesn't have R7/9 300 series video cards in it yet. https://web.archive.org/web/20150510011138/http://www2.ati.com/drivers/windows-xp-amd-catalyst-9.00.300.3005-dec9.exe This driver is very unstable, I checked it on several computers, there were problems everywhere. AMD 5870 - the driver could not install with an error. AMD 6320 (AMD APU) - driver was installed, but when you turn on the video player with DXVA, the system completely freezes. AMD 7770 - the driver is installed, the video player with DXVA shows a black screen, playback does not start. There are no problems in the last official driver.
  21. Fixed, re-download.
  22. I found two nasty bugs in Chromium 115 for XP. First, sometimes it doesn't start, it hangs in processes, but nothing happens, you have to terminate the process and restart it. Second, the default download folder is "C:\Program Files\Common Files" and it can't be changed, when you click "Change" button, it opens a non-working window. If you enable the setting to always specify the download location, you have to enter the file name manually.
  23. If you install the "Windows XP Luna Blue theme" it becomes less noticeable.
  24. Strange, maybe some bug, I checked usbxhci.sys file on Virustotal, no antivirus found anything. https://www.virustotal.com/old-browsers/file/3f06a751897751b7469a4a0b7d86bce21a4aa0c6eec1c6096f05ed6cb3ec0c72 Try to re-download or download on another system, my archive is not corrupted, I checked it now, I have Win7, so there is no defender here.
  25. It seems that the update has been replaced by a cumulative update, although it is not written about it in the Catalog. Maybe the driver doesn't work on 7** chipset, I checked on 6** chipset, the driver works there. Then, if you can't reinstall the OS in any way, I can only suggest to buy a PCI-E USB3.0 card, but you need to check that there is a branded driver for Win7. Or make a backup copy of the system and reinstall it by updating, this will save the programs. UPD. KB2864202 replaced by KB3125574.
