  1. The Crap just gets better. What? Did I really say that? Win 10 10586.318 downloaded and installed cleanly, on several PCs! Some standard softwares, IE11, Waterfox, Java, taskbar icons, ETC worked. Restart and Shutdown functioned properly. The Power-on button started the PCs and Windows 10 booted. Amazement! Nothing to crap about today. The insider MacBook just downloaded Windows 10 Insider Preview 14342. This Crap is working good today.
  2. It's hard to breathe life into poorly manufactured computer hardware or software. There's a pile of HP laptops at the shop that won't power on or light up the screen. As for Win 10, Windows 7 is looking better every day. I keep wondering why Win10 runs better on the MacBook than it does on the XPS PC?
  3. I have to agree that Windows 10 has provided an "amazing experience" whether I expected it from Windows or not. Yes, I've spent days being "amazed" by the years worth of "experience."
  4. Talking Crap: On a MS Win 10 "Start Menu" forum, made an entry discussing the Notification icon that brings up several parameter switches, one of which is Tablet Mode. By turning that on for a non-tablet PC the Taskbar including Start Menu stop responding to a mouse click. This is the same symptom as the Start Mode stops responding error. One of the "Super" MS Insiders wanted to help me fix the PC problems that I had. Responded that I tried all the suggestions on the test PC until the Windows Update trashed the software on the PC. That same PC runs great with Win 7. Responded that I didn't need any help because the Win 10 Insider test computer is now an old MacBook. Win 10 Insider fast track has never failed on the MacBook, now at 14332. That's the first time I didn't receive a nasty response to one of my posts. Maybe the truth leaves a MS Super Insider with nothing to say. No, probably just more melted ice cubes in the ocean.
  5. The latest Insider fast track Win 10 Update, 14332, installed cleanly within 45 minutes on the 10 year old Apple MacBook! Win 7 runs fine on the MacBook as well. How much will the Win 10 ice cubes sell for after July?
  6. How about Intel cutting back on personnel because they are not getting the orders for new computer chips? New computer sales seem to be diminishing. Does that mean there are not so many new Win 10 PCs going out? Or are there more AMD chips going out? Or not.
  7. Consider this speculation: At the Shop where I get to play with computers, people donate the computers they don't want. Quite often the PC comes in with no hard drive (personal information preservation). However, some have told stories about updating to Win 10, the PC quit working and their favorite service guy couldn't fix it or get them back to the original Win 7 as identified by the COA on the case. Some said that they just bought an iPad which took care of their computer needs. My speculation is that there are a lot of counted Win 10s that don't exit anymore!? Media and marketing only seem to count up with no procedure to count down. Critical Mass like an ice cube in the ocean that just disappears. [But I put 10 ice cubes out there. They're still out there, aren't they?] Maybe on a real cold day?
  8. During my insider Office 2016 testing months ago, Office 2016 failed to play well with Win 10 Preview. At the time, I didn't know which was the problem. However, for PCs, Office 2007 and Office 2010 seem to be very stable. For Macs, MS Office for Mac:2011 is also very stable.
  9. My slapless solution: Confirmed that the Win 7 was at SP1 update level. Disabled wuauserv. Changed update setting to none. 17" Dell laptop is running like new now! Maybe a "Reverse Slap?"
  10. Crap sliding down hill: Clean installed windows 7 and it seems to have a Windows 10 like Windows Update inserted. Now, service wuauserv has started to use over 90% of memory. That's some new crap that looks like shades of Win 10. Or did MS do this on purpose to force users off Win 7? Won't work. I'll save up and buy another Mac. Just when I started feeling good about the time invested in the Win 10 Insider program.......
  11. Microsoft slapped: Had to do a clean install for windows 7 Pro, hard drive quite spinning. The slap was when wuauserv grabbed over 90% of the PC memory. It looks like Win 10 windows update has been moved into the Win 7 world. Crap rolls down hill. Felt like a slap. Down graded Win 10 insider 14316 on the Crap heap because of the Win 7 slap. Butterfly effect in the MS world.
  12. Crap Meter Update, Sad and Glad: An Insider Windows 10 Insider Update, the second in a row, completed in Less than an hour, download, install and restart. That was the sad part. This Insider Windows 10 is running by way of Boot Camp on the 10 year old MacBook with the 1TB SSD. This is the glad part. The update was Build 14316. None of the old problems have shown up or no new ones either. Windows 10 must really like Apples. The Crap Meter needle has gone down in the positive field of the Apple. There's a smile on the old guys face.
  13. A new line of Crap: Why does it take Windows 10 so long to update? My experience is several hours to several days. In comparison, the iMac updated to OS X 10.11 in less than an hour.
  14. Just realized I didn't answer the question that you asked. The iMac of 5 years ago has an i7 3.4 GHz quad CPU, 16 GB of memory, an SSD for the OS, an HDD for backup, a GHz FSB and a 27" monitor. The brand new computers for comparison were at two name brand stores and were mostly laptops, Dell. Lenovo, HP, Microsoft and some Japanese brands. Only one had an SSD. Only one had an i7 quad but with an HDD. All the rest were lessor technology CPUs. Most had GHz FSB technology. None had 2 Storage devices in the off-the-shelf models. All were Windows 10 but not all of them had touch screen displays. Not one of the laptops had a 17" display. There were no "All-In-One" computers for sale at one of the stores. If you were the company selling Windows 10 computers, wouldn't a tablet touch screen be mandatory? And a last thought, not one of the PCs was a 6 processor device or had more than 8 GB of memory. So 5 years out and the off the shelf technology hasn't caught up. This situation might influence the Crap Meter, too.
  15. If multiple Windows 10 operating systems are installed as Guests on a virtual machine Host, does Microsoft get to count the multiple copies on that single device?
  16. The main PC was a Dell XPS desktop with an Intel quad CPU. That PC started with Windows 7 Pro. That hardware was substantially newer technology than the Intel Core 2 Duo of the MacBook. I had to use iso DVDs to upgrade Insider Win 10 on the PCs. Other than that PC, the PCs used were several name brands and some that were home built. The most powerful of the PCs was the XPS. That was the PC of Windows 10 disappointment. Lately, I just go with Win 10 Build 10586. It seems to work for non-insider systems even though it has a multitude of issues that show up. The MacBook running Win 10 insider cleanly completed the Win Update to Build 14295. 14295 seems to be a keeper. I see that MS may think so. too. I'm looking for a little newer Apple to continue my insider project.
  17. I hope Microsoft counted the Windows 10 Home Insider Preview that is running great on the old Apple computer. Also, Insider Build 14295 fixed a lot of the problems that have crippled Win 10 on PCs. Not one of those problems has shown up on the MacBook. Microsoft, please count on Apple. 4/16/16 Insider MacBook Windows 10 updated cleanly to Build 14316. Windows 10 works great on this Apple.
  18. Sad has many faces. Apple has finally gotten to the point that hackers have taken notice. Quite impressive. MS hackers aren't even given recognition these days. But hack an Apple, now that's news. Us poor folk have to save up a long time to buy a nice new Apple but we do it anyway. Too many stories of the people that buy brand new Windows 10 PCs that don't last six months but that hasn't made any news in the reference links. I look at the ten year old Apple that actually runs Windows 10 better than the new Win 10 PCs and think about sad. Then I think about the high priced iMac bought 5 years ago and realize that the brand new hardware PCs are still not up to the five year old technology, that's sad. I think about the old PCs that I tried to use for Win 10 Preview for 9 months and couldn't get get one to do a clean Insider Windows Update. That's sad. However, the ten year old MacBook with Insider Windows 10 under Boot Camp had a clean Insider Windows Update on the first try. Is that sad? No, that is amazing and fun, not sad anymore! Wait, did the Crap Meter just smile? No, just my imagination.
  19. A small change in the Crap Meter ---- The Insider, Fast Track on the Apple MacBook did it's first Insider Windows Update! The update actually completed! This is exciting because in 9 months of Insider Windows Updates on the test PC, not one completed. Most wiped out the running operating systems and required an iso install to recover. The moral to this specific story is that if you want Windows 10 to function, install it on an Apple computer.
  20. The Apple MacBook (Late 2006) is helping lower the Win 10 Crap Meter after installing the 1TB SSD to get some software wiggle room. To date with OS X 10.7.5 Lion as the Host, 32-bit Windows 10 is installed as a Fast Track Insider running under Boot Camp. Also, 32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium and 64-bit Windows 7 Professional are installed under Oracle for Mac VirtualBox VM. Both of the Windows 7 installations are destined for Windows 10 when Windows Update sees fit. So far all the operating systems are running OK. As an old geek a smile is on my face as I help Microsoft with their Windows 10 project. Windows update has not taken down the Apple Host as it did with the PC Host that I was using that Windows update destroyed software-wise. Just another tester work-around enjoying computers and watching Windows 10 grow into a maybe stable product. Might save up and buy a new Apple MacBook Pro and run an assortment of operating systems on the single piece of hardware. Rather than getting upset with Microsoft, this new approach is fun, not irritating. Crap Meter holding steady. Edit: 3/29/16: MacBook Now has 64-bit Linux Mint installed under VM so all the testing is available for comparisons. Now I wonder if Surface also has the capability of running multiple operating systems. Just another challenge to the old Crap Meter.
  21. A forum somewhere said that Win 10 UP^ put the update in the optional category but checked the optional for installation. However, I think that the MS crew is reading the forums and learning how to get past the end user workarounds that have been developed. Maybe MS^^ is hiring some good hackers lately? [Win1x, you've been hac~~~!]
  22. Crap meter update, new Win 10 understanding. The Start Menu issue that many thought to be a Win 10 program bug may be just a software parameter change by MS. Many may already know this but if Win 10 is placed into Tablet mode, the Start Menu icon is disabled. Another tech showed me the parameter control item that changes Tablet mode. As of yesterday when the Start Menu stops working, I'll look to change the parameter to disable Tablet mode. As soon as Tablet mode was disabled on the non-tablet computer, the Start Menu resumed its normal function. Perhaps what happened in the past is that a Windows Update changed the Tablet parameter without an information message to explain the feature change. The initial thought was that the update broke the PC when the parameter change rendered some non-tablet PCs to quit working. A lot of Insiders seem to have missed this change, myself included. The Crap Meter dropped down a bit with this new to me information. The MacBook now has 32-bit Windows 10 under Boot Camp, 64-bit Windows 7 under VM and standard OS X 10.7.5 as Host. All seem to be working well.
  23. Win 10 Home is installed on a 10-year old MacBook running OS X 10.7.5! I admit that it took me 3 days of study and experimenting to find the correct procedure to accomplish the goal. Working thru software like Parallels, VirtualBox VM for Mac and Boot Camp. Also had to find out if the Mac was a 32-bit or a 64-bit computer. Finally settled on Boot Camp using 32-bit Windows. Also, replaced the HDD with a 1TB SSD. This Win 10 will also be an Insider computer. Now, we'll see if Win 10 runs more stable on the Mac than the several PCs I've tried it on. PCs with Win 10 usually self destructed within a week or two.
  24. I hope that all of you won't get investigated by the FB_ for discussing top secret stuff. How will MS be able to keep TS information from going to their cloud?
  25. if you go through with it let me know how it goes I have a mac Mini floating around and I have been considering trying 10 on real hardware currently running it in a VM. I don't really use it now that I have got my other computer that is running 8.1/Fedora By the middle of March I should have the results of the proposed project.
