  1. I cant tell right now, it was Qemu KVM virtual machine and im no in Windows.. But i just downloaded last one from web and machine has no pending updates.. I will post details later.
  2. I have on some machines with Anydesk this error: anydesk windows xp the procedure entry point not found located in the dynamic link library kernel32.dll Others are working..
  3. Ok, im not expert, i never saw hore than 8 sets anywhere and i saw lots of machine, it true is than number of digits suggest up to 999, but you never know..
  4. .Hmm, the same. I changed used Controll set back to original - 7 and its working. I only saw 1 difference before crash, when its working mouse cursor is smaller - high resolution, when its not its bigger - lesser resolution, all my instance have same resolution. I wanted to export new Control set to make some comparison.. but after i run machine again with Controll set 7.. and im opening registry Control set 9 is no gone.. Is there some max Control set 8 or something like that limit (i got some Windows update and Shutdown i have few not working updates (.Net framework 3.5), which are trying to install from time to time )? I at least once Control Set 9 was there before i was able to import second part (virtual device inside it). Now i can create Controll set 9 quickly. If there is some good tool comporate keys. BTW i dunno if there is something what should stay private, or could post keys here - now i can recreate
  5. I tried first part.. Boot no bluescreen, but on login screen i got black screen, mouse cursor and reboot. And safe mode gave me freeze too, just blinking cursor. Make sense to try add virtual devices or its just dead end? About debugging with small parts would not be more clever really try to check why installation is failing and service not running from my perspective it seems easier way, but i never did such things.
  6. Make this sense, when its not worked even after restore whole partition with which im sure that it worked before? If i broke something, restore should fix it, or not? This again change of same machine, if problem is on network change inside machine will not help. I would understand if machine would start to send some bad packets and router would block it, but it would work after reboot to other OS? Are these packets different.
  7. Its brutal even for such barbarian as me.. but i will try it, it would be funny Lets say that it would work what would be next steps, because i dont thing that is simply possible to transfers all settings, would be problem with already installed SW, which are using some virtual device drivers etc?
  8. I only want know, what is idea after this operation. what to expect etc.. Otherwise it in checked event log and there is indeed nvme related error: The driver detected a controller error on \Device\RaidPort1 https://www.dropbox.com/s/fjpbqfd5p3tjud7/NVME-EventError.PNG?dl=0 Otherwise testing could be pretty fast, when its working i just install driver - one *.sys.. and right after its device ready, or i get code 10 when its not working, no restart needed.
  9. Hmm, im starting to thing that it could be something with networking hardware, because today is simulated it again: I just removed left over old NIC from device manager, network stopped working, or fine.. tried to fix it nothing, but i recover disk image where i was working for sure.. and i tried it and its not working. In other OS is working fine, i otherwise had not networking issues. My setup is quite simple, some unmanaged switches and router / vsdl modem, all settings dynamic. Any ideas?
  10. Thanks for info. Hmm, so they are not really something like sing of super broken system, im trying this options, if get into state, when its not working normally.. sometimes its working and its much faster that restore image. Im that Registry block above? Its all for NVME device removal or for some ControllSet cleaun up? I managed to remove that NVME driver, here is how to, yeah it was again some :*Filter" thing: - search for LowerFilters, delete the secnvmeF line only, not whole parent key - delete secnvmeF service. - delete secnvme service. - delete related INF (look inside oem*.inf) from \Windows\Inf - its probably not totally neccesary, its only solving recognition of device after reboot, but would create only create some stub device, without driver. - delete secnvme.sys and secnvmeF.sys from \Windows\System32\Drivers - uninstall device from Device Manager and restart immediately // Probably dont neccesary, because devices are added by start of services, i thing.. So now im "clean", i can debug why more promising driver is not working. BTW regarding my system, if you know some good unitility to create some system report, i will create it for sure. I though about if have something special in my system, for sure i have some games DRM systems - like Starforce, Securom etc.. + some companies USB Token drivers stuff, but by i would bet my money, on some other problem file some registry mising key permissions etc. Which driver is needing. Im will check EventLog, for some clues.
  11. Well, i found solution how to write Grub4dos code to MBR and its "my bad way" which i prefer - 1 minute long Youtube video, it using Bootice and its working for WinXP too. Its other magic option of Bootice, which dont know yet. Its really effective and giving me that level of knowledge depth which i prefer, if would stuck on step, i can simply give deeper. It wasnt boring, it was helping and but yeah too complicated and too much strong words for my taste. Fairy tale about my random tools.. My guess is that this partittion type change happen through WinXP or Win2000 install when i had some partition hidden (to install it to as C letter), or its Acronis bug, but my guess is 1st thing, i vaguely remember that i had exactly same problem which same setup 12 years ago. This is classic problem bad user vs bad developer, i believe that problem is in not in user. If i really trying to thing your recommend way its madness, really can control / understand everything that is illusion, every program has own services, which are blackboxes, own code which black box, writing lots of keys to registry - which function is are not often clear. Random specialized tools and searching for them have flaws too, but as overall strategy it make more sense. There is couple of things which i care low level as possible, but OS as for me just tool, which supposed to work and be easily customizable and easy to use. I dunno if ever heard about ERP + TOC, but its similar strategy which im using to approach these things. I have few main goal and dont want to be lost in some minor problems analysis, if there is way around.
  12. Ok, i fixed even not Grub way, with fixed partition type IDS bootpart worked fine, i dunno if it would really necessary, or only right boot.ini after partition id fix were necessary. Regardless of different views, thanks for help, i mean it, without point to partition type id, i wouldnt solve it., withou some reinstall that would probably change it too.
  13. I have different view, you often glut people with lots of information which are not really needed and mislead / lure them to some complicated dead ends / wrong way or good end but through very complicated ways. Im grateful for the help, but.. It seems that whole boot sect theory was probably wrong end and problem was really one wrong IDs which lots partition tools can fix through few clicks. It seems similar with Grub4DOS boot.. i need rewrite MBR code to point to grldr, i dont thing that i need to anything with bootsector, solution should be some simple way to rewrite MBR code to point it too right binary. I made it already for FAT32 Win9x ( bootlace 0x80 command ) and DOS and same thing is needed for XP and NTFS. When i thinking about it logically, start its booting process is most essential / basic thing what every OS such do, so if its complicated its just wrong same with solutions. I love one Einstein adage: "If you can explain it simply you dont understand that" I would say, that you are understand it for sure, but problem is often transfer of that knowledge to some quick solutions for others. I would care about it, but started to mentoring me, otherwise i dont have problem just choose which hint i will use and which not, so im i need to tell people what to do..
  14. See posts above, i dont thing that is necessary, it seems that i found right tool in my arsenal.
  15. Some good news Grub4dos.. sidebloaded to boot.ini seems to be more clever than my other fixes and its starting Win9x fine. True is that i changed Partition type ids between (i used that with FAT32 LBA), but old ways are still not working.. but i have to create that bootsec with right ids and we will now.
  16. Ok i found working Partition Manager with Win2000 and not SSE2 CPUs, which i was given licence in the past. Partition id was NTFS, question was to use FAT32 or FAT32 LBA? https://www.dropbox.com/s/ltls648f2gihvmg/PartitionID.png?dl=0 MakeBS is not working with Vmware virtual machine with one big NTFS partition - 200 GB or so, not this physical one - here this thing is untested so far.
  17. I read thats, but it expected that if disk managment show it right, that it would be right. This too low level how to check it and how to fix it?
  18. It seems that bootpart is lying patitions are FAT32: https://www.dropbox.com/s/rqb1ibfnytjtw9l/PIII-DiskMap.png?dl=0
  19. Lots of info, i tried patch for quick victory, in victor.. but im not sure that right one. I need to replace in MBR NTLDR for GRLDR. So i tried: Press any key to continue . . . C:\> C:\>MAKEBS C:\GRLDR /w A file named BackupBS.ori already exists on drive C:, though it's contents are DIFFERENT from current bootsector. Are you sure you want to overwrite it? [Please enter YES in capital letters to confirm]YES ... Current bootsector of drive C:\ backed up to C:\BackupBS.ori ... ... ... ... ... Current bootsector appears to be NTFS ... ... New bootsector C:\grldr.bs created succesfully .... C:\> Its creating some botsec files, but i dont thing so that it replace MBR code, or at least still NTLDR is started after reboot, not GRLDR. I need this: I just need to start GRLDR after machine boot and from it has possiblity to start NTLRD - which is not possible with method 2, or i dunno how. Yeah i had problem with menu.*st name in the past, that way im just coping it, grub.cfg is better idea. Before i tried it though that its much newer version of grub, this one from 2009, do for thing i need its enough. Bootpart - well i copied syntax from guide, i created bootsec file so i excepted that is working, im trying to question everything, i will recheck it. You are right bootpart output are showing all NTFS partions, first 2 should be FAT32 for sure, i have to check it. I didnt notice that. True is that i had some issue in the past with disk imaging this parition layout is for reason problematic (im making whole disk image) with R-Drive Image it recreate only some partitions and now i tried Acronis all partitions where created - but again, i never checked if there are actually using right filesystems - i they have right labels (which include FS names)..
  20. I check Grub4dos tool, its really great, i can sideload it from boot.ini, same as install it to MBR in DOS / Win98.. but i would like to use it as full ntldr replaced on NTFS, its possible reading to documentation. So far i tested all in virtual machine, i will try sideload on PIII machine, is Grub would be able to load Win9x would have some problem too. There are 2 methods mentioned is some guide: http://microsaint.narod.ru/_Info_Grub4Dos/files/install.htm#method8 Problem is that: 1) Method 1 - i can find that patcher for ntldr to grldr replacement, link is dead, and im not able to google it. 2) Method 2 - i can rename grldr to ntldr - which is working and gldrt is starting, but im missing info, what to do with renamed ntldr, because when im not trying to boot WinXP, it wants to ntldr, which is now grldr - so im looped. I tried rename ntldr to ntldr2 and edit menu.1st to ntldr2.. but im not successfull so far. There seems to be only half of info, or its mentioned for GLDRT to load older OSes, or i simply dont get.. In menu.lst is this: Boot it seems to be not clever enough to enable change /ntldr string to /ntldr2 or something like that and search for such file to load Win2k/Xp..
  21. Thanks, to Boot.ini si not main issue. From article there is not MS way, how to fix it, but with boot part it should be easy. But is not working for me for some reason.. Here is my bootpart output: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2yc2ajwkznyt6tq/BootPart.png?dl=0 After that i run: bootpart 0 C:\BOOTSECT.DOS Windows 98 from Windows XP and copied boot.nit line and bootsect.dos to right start first partition, im sure that it is used for booting and has boot.ini and boot loaders installer they are starting WIn2000 and WinXP fine. But im getting this error message: Windows could not start becaue of computer disk hardware configuration problem. Could not read from selected boot disk. https://www.dropbox.com/s/tv180ztpft5dfdg/BootError.jpg?dl=0 I can upload used bootsec, if someone is able to check it. Machine is capable to boot Win98 (with other disk - 8GB Sata, SSD), its PIII im using 120 GB SSD through IDE to SSD adapter. What next? I can try to reinstall Win98 but, after that how to create WinXP booting, from boot CD bootfixc command will copy right files to first partition.. after what would be different? I guess nothing i would getting same error. I finally had to time to play with Grub4dos at least within Virtual machine with Freedos, if would make Win98 bootable and install it to Grub code to MBR, it could be way too.
  22. Hello, how to add Win98 / Dos 7.1 into Windows XP boot menu? I have this with 4 partitions (all are primary): Win98 (readable fine from modern Windows..), Data-FAT32,WIn2000 and Windows XP. Windows XP were installed last. Boot loader is on first partition, its set as active. I tried bootcfg /rebuild from WinXP boot cd, but its ignoring Win9x at all. Also tried DualBoot repair but it seems to be XP+ too, same as Paragon tools. I tried couple commands at the bottom of boot.ini.. these bootsec files are exist, how where created i dunno - probably by install of later Windows: [boot loader] timeout=10 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(4)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(4)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(3)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4 Pro" /fastdetect c:\Bootsect.dos="Win95" /win95 c:\Bootsect.w98="Win98" /win98 C:\= But im getting: just blinking cursor or.. This message: Starting Windows 98... Type the name of Command Interpreter (e.g, C:\Windows.command.com) A> .. Windows 98 are installed in Windows folder, command com is there, im using custom msdos.sys from Windows 98 boot menu, but it seems that it was never started. I when installed later Windows i always hid all one partitions, so all system are using C:
  23. There was zillion cross links i just open all of them and checked them, i did not read all text around, sadly. It was 2 registry keys solution, as you mention, only wrong one.
  24. I tried this tutorial: https://petri.com/change_system_drive_letter_in_windows_xp - im quite sure that changed rights drive letters, but after boot i got only: Windows could not start because the following files is misisng or corrupt: \Windows\System\Config\System i did mess with registry, except change of these letter from live install.. just changed two letters.. True is that this machine is not totally proven, it could have some memory or disk issues, i got 2 strange freezes (but i also completed 2 installs fines) and im using IDE to Sata adapter, memtest was fine, coolers and PSU are overdimmensed, but its 20 years old board. I checked how much things was installed, fortunately not too much, so in this case it did reinstall. Its too late for now, but should i after such operation change something in boot.ini or is not needed so, problem has to be elsewhere?
