  1. wmp in xp64 does create a toolbar, if your running the 32bit explorer, with the default 64 bit one it doesn't create one i missed this feature a lot! i think its because wmp is still 32bit, so it only works with the 32bit explorer, i think if you end explorer with the taskmanager then run '%SystemRoot%\syswow64\explorer.exe /separate' it should then use the 32bit explorer and the toolbar will work!
  2. isn't that that turbocache thing nvidia has? to cut costs and what not...
  3. for some reason i read the secondary box as x-psp/2 and thought, woah, u use it as a psp/ps2 emulator? i never knew there was an os that did such a thing....and then after a while i realised it was just plain old xp! anywho, on topic, xp64, and occasionally try out ReactOS !
  4. i do that.... ...i also find if i'm stuck for what to wright, i seem to save it on average 20 times a minute, to be on the safe side! its always good to have the page numbering saved....just incase you loose it, and forget how to do it again! although sometimes thats half the fun, oh dear...
  5. I'm sure this should be in the nlite forum..however, have you tried re-installing directx? maybe that would fix it?
  6. hi, thanks for your answers! i've calibrated the battery in the bios, the % in windows seems correct, takes around an hour to an hour and a half to discharge in windows, however the time shown in windows when below 40% is only 1 minute, and above that is 2 minutes until around %90 ware it is 8 minutes! thats what i find annoying! if the windows thing can't be fixed its no big problem, its just an annoyance, and i'll have a look to check to see if theres newer drivers, its an old intel graphics chipset on a samsung v20 thanks
  7. hi, was just wondering, is it possible to somehow calibrate the battery in windows? my girlfriends laptop which i'm using now, after a full charge says there are around 8 to 6 minutes left on the battery, until a couple of weeks ago we always assumed the battery was rubbish, however one day i forgot to plug it in and was playing san andreas for around an hour, to my surprise it stil lasted another half hour for normal use, even tho for the entire time (after playing gta) the battery life was on 1% with less than a minute remaining, after calibrating the battery in the bios the % seems to go down correctly now, ie, doesn't drop to 11% after a minute then stay there, howeverthe time still says 2 minutes all the time, its annoying because any of the power management features that act when the battery level gets low have tobe turned off otherwise it keeps going into standby all the time (and for some reason tehres a bug with the video drivers and the screen doesn't come back on after going into standby) so anyways, anyone know if you can 'reset' the battery in windows? not sure if it cna be done, i've tried uninstalling the battery and letting windows put it back in,
  8. hrmm, one thing thats bad, me g/f bought the sims 2 for the ds, thought i'd try it, and, its actually got a story n stuff, and its annoyingly addictive! unless you want to waste away entire days of your life! don't get that game
  9. I never said IE should be used by everyone, the bigger picture i see, is that IE with windows is easier to use than downloading other browsers! anywho, you have to remember any facts against anything else will be biased, the ones against IE will be biased along with the ones against firefox. i'd like to point out i've since downloaded opera and have decided i do like how quick it is!, but, i personally like the IE enviroment, in my opinion Opera is by far the best, but overal, i belive IE is easier, I don't want to argue, as at the end of the day, its not just me (or you), its what everyone else thinks too:) p.s. i wouldn't use the firefox myths to defend my use of IE, but unlike a lot of people i am willing to accept its faults and carry on using IE (such as people who defend firefox with its faults and opera, all have faults, but people still use them!), however i don't understand how people defend netscape since version 4.7 if your totally against IE and only want to use free alternatives, and complain about the security of IE, just don't use it, its like christians who knock door to door and try and tell people they should belive in god for their reasons, no one likes ideas being forced upon them! just give them the choice and let them decide for themselves, we all drive different cars, even tho some are obviously better than others! what would be amazing is an unbiased comparasion of IE, FireFox, Opera and Netscape. i'm pretty sure they would all measure out even with good and bad points
  10. true it is easy to use! but i find as the diskeeper is, well basically the same interface as the windows one, i feel its easier, plus i like the idea of how it can defrag in the background, or when the computer is idle, i'd really like an option like that for perfect disk! i'm guessing it wouldn't be as effective then tho. after looking up that contig one, i'm not sure how that can be the best, doesn't seem like a defragger to me, just a file defragger?
  11. well i just read the firefox myths page (after seeing the link in a signature) and before i read that i voted hate for firefox (now i realise that others have thought the same as me about these firefox facts), which i feel is a bit strong, but its the most least liked to me, I've tried firefox, and wasn't impressed, how is tabed browsing any different from the 'tabs' on the start menu? its not that great a feature, and as pointed out you can get addon's (extensions) for ie that do the same thing. as for people saying firefox is the easiest browser to use, how could not using the default browser that is already installed and allowing it to update fixes in the background without using interaction be easier than downloading a seperate browser (usually by using ie to download it) then having to keep updating it to fix new security issues or to increase compatability. I also don't understand how because ie comes with windows its more of a security risk than other third party browsers that use plugins, addon's, extensions, whatever you want to call them, last time i checked anything written by third parties can do whatever they want, regardless if the browser is installed with an os or not! anyway, my vote for ie, is because to me it is the simplest and most effective way, i wo'nt say its better than operea, as i haven't actually tried it yet, or at least not for a while anyway, so i feel i would be unable to make a descion based on using it from ages ago. what could be simpler than using whats already on the computer? if your that worried about resources, surely additional resources being used to house another browser will take away resources? not magically make ie vanish and to be replaced? one last thing, i used to be one of these people that used to think IE is evil! etc, but that was a long time ago, back when netscape was usable, i thin it was netscape 4.7 commuicator i used to use, i especially liked the email client, but then netscape went a bit wierd for my liking, thats about when i started using ie, realising its much easier and a lot less hassle to use ie, i do disagree with microsoft's way of beating off the competition effectivly by having ie with windows, but at the end of the day, if it didn't have ie, people would just complain more about windows and its lack of features compared to free alternatives!
  12. what is it with being unable to resist replying to these threads? well, to be honest, i like diskeeper, i like it a lot, also, i think its better suited for novices, as it can be set up automatically, and you don't even know its there, it just does its job, its great, it even gives you little cool maps of the drive and tells you all these cool statistics well, now i can remember back when we all used windows 95 and all the !!!111!!!111 talk was to people who refused to leave win 3.11 and just insisted win 3.11 plus win32's was exactly the same as win95...or something, anywho i remember back then norten made a very good defrag utility, (i'm sure it was norten? before they became all bloated?) anywho, i also remember when you run that, you actually noticed a difference, boot times seemed faster, opening explorer the files seem to wizz up quicker than before, it actually seemed to do something, moving on... ...for the last few years i have trusted diskeepers pretty maps, why shouldn't i, they appear to be making a huuuuuge difference, although i could never feel an improvement no matter how badly fragmented the drive was, after running diskeeper, i never noticed a difference. I never questioned the fact they kept bringing out version after a version, i did wonder what do they do to keep improving it, i mean, what possibly could of changed to make it go from 7 to 8 9 10 etc, but after doing a few tests i discovered perfect disk seems to do a far better job, i'm not to bothered if neither of them can get 0 fragmented files afterwards, but what does interest me is when you notice a difference, until i used perfect disk i always assumed drives were just to fast to notice a difference, but after i run that i noticed windows seemed to start quicker, and again with explorer files list quicker too, so to me, perfect disk is the the best one, however, i feel diskeeper is overall a more usable program, but if you don't mind the amount of time it takes perfect disk is the answer! also i've never heard of contig but i'm gonna hav a look on google now..
  13. have you tried updating the chipset drivers? i would of thought even the most basic onboard sound should be able to handle playing audio!
  14. i'm convinced he's made the decsion by now! but i thought i might put my input in anyway i used to hav a PIII 800 with 196mb before i got a P4, now i would never run xp on it after trying 2000, its so much faster, apart from the boot time, games would run smoother, and i could do more without it swapping everything to the hd, now downstairs we have a PIII 866 with 256mb of ram, and i find that very slow to use, i tried putting 2000 on it, it did run a lot faster, however everyones used to xp-shinyness and didn't like it so xp's on it, but there is definatly a noticable difference between xp 2000 on p3 hardware to me, also if your having troubles with stuttering streaming, if you can it might be worth trying 2000 see if that fixes it, i wouldn't be surprised if it did! p.s. nliting xp i found does help on older hardware, but if you nlite 2000 on the same hardware, theres also a huuuge difference! you can get 2000 to boot very quickly using nlite i found. there should be xp drivers avaliable for your card, i can't seem to find it now but i'm sure you said it uses haupage ? i know people who have that and it works fine, at least i know there are xp versions avaliable! one last thing, another reason i like 2000 for older hardware, i used to use an old P90 with 96mb on a 6gig hd, now i'm sure a lot of people will faint at that, but it seemed to run much faster than nt4 did on it, also at the time i was using an amd 350 with 64mb of ram runing windows 98, guess which one was faster and more stable? (obviously once it ahd started up it was very fast, however it did take a good 5 minutes to start)
  15. haven't really got any advice on this, but i was working on a electrical desk a couple of months ago, and this was quite a common problem, all we did was replace them with a new shuffle, sometimes they do that sometimes they don't just so you know, its not just happing to the odd one or to, it seems to be a common problem! although now its been mentioned that it works fine on the apple computer...can't help but wonder about apples products! we never had one returned ware the customer had a mac...
  16. just wanted to say, i bought one of these last week, and i must admit, its the most fun i've had playing games for a while, even my g/f is addicted to it. theres are only a couple of things i dislike about it picto-chat can't be used on the internet and not many people i know will buy one because they've been brainwashed into thinking they 'suck' because nintendo make fun games which are for babies, although everyone i've shown wants one would love to try bomberman or mario kart 8 players! however there are lots of things i love, especially the one cartridge multiplayer, although it seems some games are limited, but i only know one person with a ds, and she doesn't have the same games as me so we can't test it, although bomberman seems to let you change all the options and pick from all the levels! p.s. super monkey ball has a touch screen air hocky game, which is highly addictive...and much cheaper than going to arcades!
  17. i'd try turning down the agp speed in the bios, or setting bios to defaults. otherwise, would it be possible its setting the refresh to high for your monitor?
  18. i thought there was already 32 and 64bit versions of all the installed files ?
  19. its an ASUS WL-138G, i have the drivers on my isp's webspace as i didn't want to loose them, as i can't seem to find them anyware if anyone wants the link i'll post it up, p.s. i bought this pci wireless card to replace my netgear usb one, the only reason i bought it as i found that its suppose to work, was quite shocked and happy when it did work!
  20. i've got pretty much the same setup same board, P4 820 chip gecube x800gt (kinda regreat buying this, wish i'd gone for the gto...) 1gig of ram plays any game i've tried on full, or virtually full details. i personally think the intel dual core are a better value than the amd dual core, however if you can wait, i'd wait for the new intel chips, everything is bound to come down in price then!
  21. i have a hitachi drive, and it tells me if i put it in sata II mode, then attempt to put the drive into a sata I only board, the board won't see it, and i ahve to set it back to sata I mode to be able to use it... it also said by default all sata II drives are setup for sata I. i also had to enable NCQ and it said the same warning. jsut thought i'd add my experiances!
  22. thanks alot! you should charge people for being a power user google and being able to find things on it i can never seem to find anything these days with it! i just seem to keep finding forum posts that have no relevance to anything thanks again!
  23. hi, i was just wondering if anyone knows or has had experiance with an acer travelmate 242lc, a friend of mine is having problems with hers, she tried taking it apart, but couldn't figure out what to do once all the screws were out, and i tried and just did the same thing, as we were both quite frustrated with it, we tried to find instructions on the manual, but couldn't find anything, anyone know how to take it apart, we're looking to change (well i assume its the cpu fan) as it seems to be not working,or shifting air incredibly slowly as the laptop keeps overheating and shutting off, and there is no air being blown out at the back at all, all we can find is how to change the memory (which i must admit is very easy and doesn't need a guide for). well if anyone knows how, or has a link on how to do it i'd very much appricate it! it seems like a good machine, and she don't use it for games or anything so its more than enough, it was quite a good laptop until the fan started acting up, shame if nothing can be done!
