lol, thats an amazing way to make money, for everykill someone has to die, so they get 25p effectivly for each kill, wish i'd thought of that! Personally i wouldn't do it, but thats only cuz i'm not that confident of winning

hrmm, might be worth checking in the services if there are any creative services that are stopped that need to be started. the only other thing i can think of, i'm assuming theres some kind of speaker config software with the creative drivers, if theres is, make sure the audio is set to come out of the right port, with my (onboard) sound its suppose to detect which port the speakers are plugged in, but one of the driver versions it didn't (although this was in xp) and had to set it myself, if that makes no sence, sorry about that! was hoping that other thing would work so i could feel clever otherwise i can't think of anything else do you know of anyone else who's managed to get them working? or as a stop gap do you have onboad sound you could use until newer drivers are released?

Sorry for the big pictures! think i've gotten addicted to this snipping tool, i love the highlighter and free hand thing, as if you couldn't tell well this is the easist way i think open op task manager, click on the services tab, then right click on the Windows audio and then click start (assuming its stopped) if its started it should say Running under status, however its worth trying stopping it, then starting it to see how it goes. Can't remember but not all builds have the services tab in task manager (i think) so the other way is to go via the control panel, then slect administrative tools, then services, scroll down till you see it hope it helps!

also what build are you using? another thing have you started the windows audio service, on my machine (5728 x64) I often find the sound seems to stop working when its nto used for a long time, i just open up task manager, and stop and start the windows audio service, always seems to work for me, not sure why, i also had this problem with beta 1 & 2, except it happens a lot less now. also I can't remember what one it was but i remember one vista when installs, at least for me didn't set the windows audio to automatic, took me ages to figure out why i had no sound! i'm sure that was in the first public beta tho oh, just wondering, has all sound stopped? or just music...? I'm assuming all sound has stopped?

ATI Radeon Express 200M Vista RC2 Ultimate Audio Driver
Stead replied to systemiso's topic in Windows Vista
I found there was no way i could get my audio working on rc 2, or bluetooth, although bluetooth and audio worked perfect in 5728 with x64. have you tried uninstalling the device using the device manager, it should ask to delete driver files as well, at least it does on mine, then windows update should just download the newest ones ... may work? realtek control panel doesn't work in x64 also i've noticed the drivers i have are 6.0.1.5272, agin they didn't work in rc2 tho hrm i just noticed you put your running 64bit x86, So you are running the 64bit version or the 32bit? I found with 1 gig of ram the x64 was too annoying, surprised to see someone use it fine with only 512! i upgraded to 1.5gig and now its fine, mind you that was on beta 1 it was unusable -
windows tells me that Your computer has a Windows Experiance Index base score of 4.5 Component Details Subscore Base score Processor Intel® Pentium® D CPU 2.80GHz 4.7 Memory (RAM) 1.50 GB 4.5 Graphics Radeon X1600 Series (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM) 5.9 Gaming graphics 767 MB Total available graphics memory 5.1 Primary hard disk 92GB Free (118GB Total) 5.3 Windows Vista Ultimate hrmm tempted to try overclocking see if that makes a difference, think i've got the slowest ddr2 memory you can get although when i had 1gig the memory was 3.9

when using beta one i used bcedit, but since then its just ignored when you set it using that, have to press f8, thought i'd try using one of those programs but it was the same as using bcedit at the cmd prompt, actually bootvistapro told me i wasn't running vista, then i changed the setting and then i couldn't even press f8! hours of fun! thanks anyways

I agree with atomizer, however I feel as a british citizen i haven't really belived the american media since it happened, always seemed to far fetched, also we seem to ahve lots of documentires trying to explain it all the time, apparently certain ones have been banned, but there are a lot of controversal (at least thats how they like to advertise them) about what happened
-
Just wondering is there any way to disable driver signing perminantly, pressing f8 everytime so i can get on the internet is a real pain! i've read on some sites there are patches, but i can't find anything. also, I have to say this beta is the most stable windows i've ever used, it hasn't crashed once since i've been using it! everything seems to work fine, (Except for cd writing software), I can't use xp anymore, I get frustrated at how slow the interface seems, not sure if its my imagination but isn't the vista gui much smoother and faster?
-
well not surea about anyone else, but my vista home premium says it need to be activated within 30 days and seems to work fine, however, i expected lower memory useage for some reason, assuming there was less intalled but processes are exactly the same
-
i'm interested in using one of the home versions, I'm curious to see the difference between the ultimate, after looking at the pricing i'm not interested in the vista ultimate, it doesn't seem to have anything thats worth double the suggested price (At least for me) so if i try instaling it, don't enter a product key, it just asks me which version? how long will it last before requiring a key? or will the beta key i'm using now work as a home version?
-
dunno if anyone finds this interesting or not, but out of the few games i've tried all using vista beta 2 x64 and xp x64 halo works fine, although get lower fps than xp, tried halo custom edition and some maps big maps its unplayable but fine in normal xp. flatout 1 & 2 work fine! except for flatout 2 won't run in xp? also the same with the quake 4 demo, runs fine in vista, but won't run in xp need for speed most wanted i found runs fine as well! actually surprised more things work in vista than x64 xp! at least out of the little testing i've done with games

well i have a P4 2.8 dual core chip, and i noticed with vista 64 i get a overall rating of 4, and with the 32bit version i get a rating of 3, i don't have 3d mark, but apart from the hd all the ratings are considerably higher considering its the same machine on a dual boot PD 2.8ghz ATI X1600XT graphics 1.5gig ddr2 not sure waht the 32bit one is off hand as i wiped it off but currently i get Processor 4.8 Memory 5.1 Primary Hard Disk (20gig free, was above 4 but its now 3 as i've installed quite a few things) 3.8 graphics 5.9 gaming graphics 5.1 its highly annoying as i'm almost tempted to upgrade the cpu and get a bigger drive to bump it upto 5 p.s. i'm running beta 2 on the 32bit one my processor was 3.x i can't remember off hand everything else and don't feel like installing it to check again, but i refreshed the system rating 3 times on each and before i filled up the drive 32bit was always 3 64bit always 4

[SOLVED] Wireless does not connect automaticly to unsecure network
Stead replied to army20's topic in Windows Vista
i put security on to get around this problem, but then i realised i still got the same problem, i'm not on vista at the moment, but i thin it was in the wireless network list, you can click on the properties and there are 3 check boxes, one of them is connect automatically, and thats what sorted mine out -
Well i too also couldn't get wireless working, in vista 32 and 64bit, and then my dad told me of a solution he managed to find from google! anyways at a dos prompt type this 'bcdedit /set nointegritychecks ON' that disables it requring signed drivers, now these drivers i have were signed as far as i knew, they install fine, and nothing pops up about driving signing, however they didn't work, it installed fine but wouldn't detect my router. after that you will have to restart, then install your wirless adapater, check to see if you can connect, if not (which is what happened with me) simply uninstall the device using device manager, then click scan for new hardware devices, it should then find the device, install the driver itself, and then work. I don't think i've missed anything out, but i was going mad as i couldn't get it working, but now it works fine, and i have to say it made me really like vista after that you can turn on the command you disabled by typing 'bcdedit /set nointegritychecks OFF' at the command prompt, and the wireless card should still work hope it helps someone!

I too love the vista look and feel! however i would like to say there were a couple of reasons i don't go back to 2000 other than the looks picture preview cleartype user switching true support for HT processors (since i have a p4 and before i bougth the dual core that was a real annoyance with 2000, i know you can disable it, but i don't like the idea of disabling something that give a real noticable difference to the responsivness of a computer) tray notification area, ( ilike how you can hide icons..not sure if that counts as a look but its something you miss) wireless support well to me there was a difference from using it, have you tried using lcd monitors without cleartype since getting used to?! also i'd like to think theres more than vista than the look and feel, but i can' think of anything so far thats had things that xp really don't have from a users point of view, compatability seems better tho (running xp64, and some things that do'nt work in xp64 work in vista 64, also you have dx 10, ... but then i can't say anything about that yet as no games are out..or video cards as previously stated!) i do feel tho 2000 to xp should of been a service pack for 2000, to add the xp features, but then i suppose they do need to make money! hrmm since i gave a list of features of xp i liked, i would also like to say i hate how they took out the preview pane (from 2000) on the folders in explorer, like you could listen to songs watch videos and see picture in the left pane of the right side of explorer (if you get what i mean, i miss being able to listen to an mp3 without having to open an audio player)
-
i think its a good idea, like, before i bought my bluetooth adpater i thought, wow, i'll never need bluetooth support 'remove remove remove' oh and i'll never need this 'remove remove' only to find a couple of weeks later for some reason i did need those things, and it is a bit of a pain to reinstall everything.

I personally quite like the interface, but otherwise i can't really see a different, theres lots of thigns different, but, i can't see that its a huuuge diiference, the interface is cool, but i can't see if its worth forking money out on when it comes out, i'm tempted tho off topic, but i found interesting, and seemed vista related excuse for upgrading.. if your a gamer, and you want 64bit heres on reason! i tried the quake 4 demo on xp64 wanted to see waht it was like, just exits to desktop when i start it i downloaded the 64bit vista, and woah, even tho i can't get my wireless or sound working, the quake 4 demo works!!! so to me, already its showing better compatability (well, software wise, not driverwise) ....well i was impressed...

i've always used lame, but i think thats mainly because its free..
-
why does it have poor sound quality, i prefer it over mp3, i know its by ms, but i find its better overall, smaller files with better quality? i've also read up on it, and used it, and generally ifind the anti ms people seem to find all these things that no one else can find thats bad about it
-
thast strange, mine didn't work with the default driver but the software also works fine on mine, well what i've used works so far, com port and file transfer
-
i think you can just set it to default shell in the registery HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\ then change shell to '%SystemRoot%\syswow64\explorer.exe' just tried it, works fine, not sure if theres any benifit in using the 64bit explorer over the 32bit... although once its changed over, regedit displays explorer.exe although it still loads the 32bit shell, don't quite understand, but it does work, and i'm not sure why i didn't do this before as i love the wmp toolbar!
-
Is it just me or on the website it doesn't say anyware they support x64, its never worked before, i just downloaded the latest version to put in a virtual machine of a 32bit windows, so i could use the bluetooth and thought i'd just try installing it anyway, when it installed it told me the drivers were not intended for x64 use, but they seemed to still install, and it works fine. (after spending over an hour installing windows in the virtual machine, i then tried it in x64....ah well could of saved an hour!) well dunno if its of use to anyone else, but bluetooth was the only thing i couldn't get working before, and now it works fine!

personally i was hoping the new intel chips would work with my existing mobo! am i the only one?!
