my school has a bunch of computers that they have bough in the last 5 years and half of them came with xp on them but they installed 2000 on all of them. this year they bough a vlk and installed windows thru the lan. so maybe ur school did something like that, the oem key that is on the sticker on the case wont work for a regular install of xp and they come with the comp anyways so who rly cares. they are pretty much useless.

limited accounts still allow you to install programs but not all programs. although you can still install a whole lot. basically i just want her to only use a few programs and to not be able to install anything. that other method rly sucks b/c u need to do it for every program that you have.

also, what could be causing this is overheating this problem could is usually either the mobo or the cpu, if u have access to another cpu then try it but i dont think that it is since it works sometimes. what mobo do u have?

well try some other media, memorex, ridata, and verbatim are all quality disks.

well maybe it just isnt recognized right sometimes. if u wanted to take it out then put back in then give it a try, but then u have to mess with ur heatsink and thermal paste which can be a pain. maybe there is a pin thats not touching right, look at the cpu if u take it out and make sure that all of the pins are there. before you do that tho, try resetting the ram actually what bios do u even have?

well u may have to reinstall windows if u want to really fix the problem, also use firefox. and dont use norton, i like nod32.

@warrior1109-i dont understand why people think its the messenger service? have any of you actually used it? because i have used it, its not popups, its a message box. @vando2k-well why do u have to be doing something to get popups? have u ran all of ur anti spyware/virus software?

is it exactly 5 beeps? plz count for sure. and tell me how long each beep is, short or long. if its 5 beeps then its a processor failure, if its 4 then the mobo is bad, if its 6 then it should have something to do with the keyboard.

Dmachine DV Extreme? well it could be a memory problem, look at your mobo when it beeps, you should see some type of lights. also run memcheck on ur ram. and update bios to latest version.
