  6. Thanks for noticing. You're right, "scanregw /autorun" backs up + optimizes the registry only upon the 1st boot of each new day.
  7. Million thanks for your work. Looks much better. I've tweaked a little more the bmp and I got this. FYI: This new WINFILE.EXE installs also as part of 98SE2ME options 1 + 7 [3 MB]: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46349 and now also part of SCANFRAG.EXE [807 KB]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/SCANFRAG.EXE Best wishes.
  8. I usually recommend to install 98SE2ME [1st] and then 98MP10 [2nd], but there is no problem if you install them the other way around. To my knowledge they do not interfere with each other. HTH

  11. I've just tried all these URLs: http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/worldwide.asp [and tried a few languages] http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/ http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/ Unfortunately they all default to this URL: http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/...ankspage=2& which says something like this: So it's safe to assume M$ ditched all Windows 98, 98 SE + ME users from their windows updates site. I'm not surprised, I was waiting for this to happen some day. Conclusion... Microsoft discontinued Windows 98/98 SP1/98 SE/ME support for automatic Windows Updates (WU): http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and manual Windows Updates Catalog (WUC): http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/ Therefore all we have now are these resources: - Official [obsolete = not updated anymore]: http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/corporate.asp http://www.microsoft.com/windows98/downloads/ http://support.microsoft.com/w98/ http://support.microsoft.com/winme/ - Unofficial [current = updated often]: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#9SU http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#MEU http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46581 http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=84886 http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=80800 http://erpman1.tripod.com/w98meupd.html And for operating system components [current = updated often]: - Operating Systems: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm - System Components: http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm - DirectX: http://www.mdgx.com/dx.htm - Internet Explorer: http://www.mdgx.com/ietoy.htm - Windows Media Player: http://www.mdgx.com/wmp.htm - Drivers + Tools: http://www.mdgx.com/drv.htm HTH ____________________________________ Edit: Never mind. All links work again [as of Wednesday, February 28 2007, 07:50 AM EST (Eastern Standard Time)]: http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/worldwide.asp [and tried a few languages] http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/ http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/ We hope M$ had a WU server problem, which seems to be fixed for now.
  12. Oldies goodies? Or specific affair? First version: normal NUSB 3.0 and version NUSB 3.0 for SanDisk1GB?What are you talking about? Could you be more specific, please?I borrowed a friend's USB stick [sanDisk Cruzer Micro 1 GB], and tried to install it using NUSB 3.0 English released by Maximus-Decim on February 21 2007 [newest available version] on my tweaked Win98 SE OS [with 98SE2ME already installed]. Never installed SanDisk drivers and never had any USB or USB 2.0 sticks installed previously. To make it work, I had to replace Win2004 USBSTOR.SYS 5.00.2195.6655 installed by NUSB 3.0 with older WinME USBSTOR.SYS 4.90.3000.1 from WinME setup CD-ROM CAB. That's it. HTH

  16. Sure, that would be great, thanks a lot for doing this.Sounds great to have 256 colors bitmaps in FM, I have not thought it possible until now.
  17. Try this: 1. Download + install Startup CPL: http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml 2. Open Startup control panel applet from your Control Panel. 3. Go to "HKLM / Run" tab. 4. Disable [do not delete so you can re-enable later if needed] mstask.exe or sage.exe or sysagent.exe entry/entries. 5. Reboot. If you still see that delay, perform same steps above and disable the "scanregw.exe /autorun" entry. Beware that "scanregw.exe /autorun" checks the registry for errors, restores it if deffective, and backs up the good registry files every time your computer loads Windows. HTH
  18. Were you trying to create that folder on a FAT32 or FAT16 partition/disk? Please disregard this question if you did.
  19. From what I recall, all DUN updates/fixes/patches/etc are necessary no matter what protocol you use to connect, even satellite, WiFi/wireless, cable/LAN or DSL/WAN, because some DUN components are used by the OS for all types of connections. And it doesn't matter which web browser(s) you use either, all web browsers are just an interface between your local computer/terminal/device/appliance and the internet/network/remote server, not a connection protocol. M$ DUN 1.3 and 1.4 updates are probably built with a proprietary iexpress tool or some other installer tool [?], that's why it doesn't behave same as most other installers [which are built with iexpress]. 20. From the horse's mouth [scroll down all the way to the bottom]: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechn...rk/appxc_c.mspx Whenever doing this:iexplore "complete_URL_name" make sure the URL name is typed between quotes [as shown above], expecially if URL name contains any spaces. To use iexplore with command line params from within a DOS BATch file, make sure you use START /W if other commands follow, to make sure they execute in sequence, and that iexplore command completes before next one starts [example]: start /w iexplore "http://www.msfn.org/board/" HTH
  21. Qs:1) i never noticed the 'must reboot twice' notice for the Q918547.EXE update --- i've only got it rebooting once at the moment, but the user will invariably end up rebooting again anyway during the Auto-Patcher process --- my question is: is this sufficient, or should I force another reboot before continuing with any other updates -- this is easily done but i'd prefer not to if not necessary 2) do i need to update any of your hotfixes that have been changed as per above (added prompt for restart) for the needs of AP? I wouldn't think so as the unattended switches all seem to work, I just thought i'd ask ... maybe its good to update them anyway just in case people want to use the AP hotfix collection outside of AP ... you wouldn't happen to have a full list of which hotfixes you adjusted by any chance? cheers, and thanks for keeping an eye on the complete updates list...champion effort! Sop. 1. No, this "reboot twice" thing applies only to the 2 "U" updates above [u891711.EXE + U918547.EXE], not to ME918547 or Q918547.BTW: I've just updated these 2 [to make sure they won't reboot automatically by any means at end of install], please download them again: ME: http://www.mdgx.com/files/ME918547.EXE 98 SE: http://www.mdgx.com/files/Q918547.EXE 2. From what I recall at the moment, all updates should prompt for reboot [if necessary], except the 2 above [u891711.EXE + U918547.EXE]. Unfortunately I modified most updates [to make sure they don't reboot] thoroughout a few months time period, and did not keep such a list. ;( But if you notice any that still do reboot automatically without prompting, please let me know. 22. maximus-decim: I have tested NUSB 3.0 English with a SanDisk Cruzer Micro 1 GB stick: http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Item(1919)...Black__New.aspx It did not work properly [yellow exclamation sign in Device Manager] until I replaced USBSTOR.SYS 5.00.2195.6655 with USBSTOR.SYS 4.90.3000.1 from Windows ME setup CD-ROM [found in BASE2.CAB].
