  1. I don't have a USB printer, therefore I can't tell which files are used. But you can do this on your computer if your printer is properly installed: right-click "My Computer" desktop icon -> Properties -> Device Manager tab -> scroll down to your printer name, which is usually listed under "Printer" -> double-click on your printer name -> Driver tab -> "Driver file details" button -> post here all file names you see. BTW: I still need you to post here any errors/dialogs/GPF/IPF/etc you've seen etc. Thanks.
  2. The only way [i'm aware of] to force WinME to show "Reboot/restart into MS-DOS" in the shut-down menu list [from inside Windows, anyway] is to hex-edit SHELL32.DLL [dialog 1064], for example using Resource Hacker: http://www.angusj.com/resourcehacker/ This real MS-DOS mode patch: http://www.geocities.com/mfd4life_2000/ same as all other similar ones listed here [and including the 1 by mfd4life above]: http://www.mdgx.com/dos.htm#ME only hex-edit COMMAND.COM, IO.SYS + REGENV32.EXE to allow to boot to native MS-DOS, use the DOS based Startup (boot) Menu: http://www.mdgx.com/msdos.htm#MEN and use AUTOEXEC.BAT + CONFIG.SYS files [which can be edited/customized at will], the same way Win95/98 behave. But none of those real MS-DOS mode patches modify the shut-down menu [sHELL32.DLL]. HTH
  3. Which 1 did you mean, the original:http://www.nvworld.ru/drivers/old/WideWin9x.rar or the modded one: http://www.mdgx.com/files/NV8269.EXE or both, reported to work with PCI-X adapters? BTW: I've already added all available hardware IDs into the INF, including the PCI-X ones. The INF has all NVidia IDs up to the newest 7xxx series. If it helps, I can also add the 8xxx series IDs. Do you think I should?
  4. I don't understand this. An uninstall feature? You can already uninstall the thing from Add/Remove Programs. Isn't that good enough? Everything should be able to get uninstalled that way. An uninstall feature for the older U891711 which installs Q891711.DLL + KB891711.EXE, not for Q891711 which installs the new USER*.* files. That's because old U891711 files [temporary fix] are not necessary anymore once Q891711 is installed [permanent fix]. Please see the ReadMe for details: http://www.mdgx.com/files/Q891711.TXT HTH
  5. What do you mean?98MP10 is a complete package and installs everything you need on Win98/98SE/ME, which means installs all WMP10 files [offline, does not connect to any server to d/l files] compatible with 9x Oses, only if WMP9 was already installed, of course. Please see the ReadMe for details: http://www.mdgx.com/98mp10/98MP10.TXT You don't need any separate WMP10 files. And WMP10 on its own cannot install on 9x OSes anyway, WMP10 is only for XP/2003. And you don't need to download WMP10 from any other computer, it is available from M$ servers: http://www.mdgx.com/wmp.htm#WMP10 HTH [Hope This Helps]
  6. Or download an emergency/startup boot disk: http://www.mdgx.com/drv.htm#LKC and then run: scandisk and then: scanreg /fix from native MS-DOS while running the boot disk [floppy or CD or DVD, doesn't matter]. BTW: Windows ME installs [and can't even boot without] MS-DOS 8.0, a stripped-down version of the better MS-DOS 7.10, which is installed by Win98 + Win98SE.The good news is MS-DOS 8.0 can be made "better" with 1 of these real mode DOS patches: http://www.mdgx.com/dos.htm#ME If you have a USB/Firewire keyboard, you need an old style [legacy] PS/2 port keyboard that works from native MS-DOS [C:\ prompt], without Windows drivers. Every computer motherboard has a PS/2 port in the back of the computer case. Just borrow one and plug it in. Then press F8 to boot into Safe Mode: http://www.mdgx.com/msdos.htm#MEN P.S.: When you get back into your PC desktop, you may want to uninstall the old PC Cillin software, and find a better/free A-V tool. Startup, Run, RunOnce, RunOncex, Setupx, WIN.INI run/load etc... entries can be disabled/deleted from safe mode. Try to run: msconfig HTH [Hope This Helps]
  7. Version number is 4.10.2233 for both 98SE USER*.* files. The USER*.* files you have in %windir%\system are newer version number, because they are from an older WinME hotfix [uSER*.* 4.90.3001]: All ME system files have a higher version number than all 98SE files [normal "operation"].But, as you well caught on, the ME files don't have the permanent fix [yet, anyway, and if they will ever do, it's all up to the anonymous author who created the 98SE fix]. 1. Yes, please uninstall U891711 thru Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs. FYI: I am going to [at some point] include an uninstall feature for U891711 into the Q891711 INF. 2. Yes, please install 98SE USER*.* 4.10.2233 permanent fix to overwrite ME USER*.* 4.90.3001 : HTH
  8. Welcome back, this started as an interesting project. All of us would appreciate greatly if you could update it. Here are your old exe + ini... UPD_INI.ZIP P.S.: If you need to have your exe download updates from the internet, please don't hesitate to use my web site, I have a lot of files you may want to use. All updates are here: http://www.mdgx.com/files/ and here: http://www.mdgx.com/spx/ How to get all necessary links: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=84886 http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46581 http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm All links are also listed inside SOFTWARE.TXT, part of W95-11D.ZIP [1.5 MB]: http://www.mdgx.com/95.htm HTH
  9. 1. Root certs update is not on the list of 98/ME critical updates at WU:http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ Therefore M$ does not properly notify users that they actually need to update the root certificates, especially if one needs to access WU or WUC web sites for other updates, which [how presumtious] requires M$ IE 5/6 + ActiveX enabled. The only references I found at M$: http://www.mdgx.com/ietoy.htm#RCF 2. GDI .ANI exploit described in MS07-017 *does* affect 9x Oses. Until now, U891711 was the only fix available, but that was just another TSR taking up memory and CPU cycles [temporary fix]: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=58780 But now [thanks to the anonymous author], we have the new USER32.DLL + USER.EXE 4.10.2233 98SE fix [permanent fix]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/Q891711.TXT Found here: http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm#9SU Download fix: http://www.mdgx.com/files/Q891711.EXE Here's the answer to your other question: http://www.msfn.org/board/?s=&showtopi...st&p=650655 HTH
  10. Actually Q925672 [the EXE] can be installed only on...Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1/6.0 SP2 for Windows 2000 SP4/XP SP1/2003 [and newer] MSXML Control 4.0 SP2 MSXML4.DLL Security Vulnerability Fix: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=925672 Direct download [4.8 MB]: http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/0...b925672-enu.exe Yes, it can be installed on 9x OSes [98 and newer], but only if one extracts the MSI file from inside the EXE first, and then runs the MSI file on Win98/98 SP1/98 SE/ME [MSI files require MSI Installer APIs to be installed]. If you run msxml.msi , the MSXML*.DLL files [MSXML4.DLL + MSXML4R.DLL] are installed following the NTx model, into %windir%\WINSXS subdirectories, not in %windir%\system [9x model], which is useless for 9x OSes, they do not use those directories nor the registry entries associated with them, as far as I'm aware. ... Besides, Q925672 installs an obsolete version: MSXML4.DLL 4.20.9839.0 Newest version [for 98/ME + 2000/XP/2003 OSes] is: MSXML4.DLL 4.20.9841.0 from Q927978, found here: http://www.mdgx.com/ietoy.htm#XML HTH
  11. This is from your 1st post listing.Actually WMP9URP [if that's the one you refer to] was created by erpdude8: http://www.mdgx.com/wmp.htm#URP HTH
  12. ADDREMOV.EXE/ADDREMOV.INFHKLM,(etc.)\Uninstall\C2GBP,DisplayName,,"· Remove Unofficial 2-4 GB Files Errors KERNEL32.DLL Fix" - First one is wrong (ADDREMOV.INF) and caused a little confusion when I went to Add/Remove Programs until I tracked it down. Easy fix (who's stuff is this? they should be notified!)! i can now report that you can download the fix for the ADDREMOV update from here:http://soporific.dsleague.com/downloads/ADDREMOV.exe MDGx: i think i got it right, so you should be able to just replace the one you're hosting with this one. My bad, I had overlooked a copied INF string... But since, I've updated ADDREMOV to include a newer version of PROGRAMS.EXE [from RP7], and added 2 new Tihiy tools: iptest.exe + shutdown.exe [all unpacked with "UPX -d" = restored to original fiel size, that's why all those file sizes are larger than the ones you may have]. Please try the new tools package at your convenience: http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#ARP File [559 KB]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/TOOLS9X.EXE Complete details: http://www.mdgx.com/files/TOOLS9X.TXT TOOLS9X.EXE is listed in the 4-25-2007 update here: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46581 Also, if you try to d/l ADDREMOV.EXE from my site, you now get TOOLS9X.EXE [.htaccess redirection ]. Actual ADDREMOV.EXE file is deleted. BTW: I've removed msizap, it's only a primitive command line only tool [by M$], can be used for only 1 purpose: delete reg entries for buggy/uninstalled MSI packages. Thanks. HTH
  13. (1) I have added a note about NUSB in READ1ST.TXT, closer to the top, under the "EXTREMELY IMPORTANT" section:READ1ST.TXT (2) I assume you are refering to 98SE2ME options 1 or 2. I've installed FFDshow a few times in the past, bur never noticed any problems, but never tried to set MPC to play FLV files. I use Riva FLV Player [freeware] to play FLV files: http://www.rivavx.com/index.php?id=422&L=3 Download it from: http://www.download.com/3001-2194_4-10442977.html Riva FLV Player has its own FLV codec, doesn't need FFDshow or any other external codec. More FLV tools [scroll down to "How to play Flash Video (.FLV)."]: http://www.mdgx.com/toy.htm#SHFL FYI: The couple of times I've tried to set MPC to play SWF, DCR + DIR files [Flash + Shockwave offline], I've got errors/glitches, because MPC doesn't have web browser capabilities to play SWF files properly. So I had to set SWF + DCR/DIR to be played by Firefox [MS IE is also a good choice]. Sometime in the near future I'll test FFDshow with MPC playing FLV, to see if I get any errors related to installing 98SE2ME option 2. HTH
  14. 1) WinME sigverif probably has newer code to recognize more digital signatures for newer files/drivers released after Win98 SE came out. [?]Can't hurt to have both, I like having more than 1 choice. 2) Sorry, I can't test this printer driver on my PC, I don' t have such printer. Can you elaborate, please, what exactly happens, step by step, eventual error messages, dialog boxes, IPF, GPF, lockups etc? HTH
  15. Nope. This was from before anyone got MP10 onto 98SSE. Here's a batch file I picked up off the forum, I also found the exe2cab program somewhere. Just never have got a round-tuit to do anything with this.I've also seen that batch a long time ago.At that time I was working on my own MP10 -> 98/ME project with the help from erpdude8 [also an MSFN member], roughly similar to the batch you found. I have posted a working version a while after that at my site and here, and I thought that was the only working version, besides the batch file you mentioned, which only extracts and copies the files from XP SP2. If you ever looked at the 98MP10 INF file, you would have noticed that there is much more to it, just copying the files and running regsvr32 won't make it work properly. In comparison, 98MP10 is pretty much a "mature" release, tested in the wild, and works in most cases, except a for few portable multimedia devices that I can't test on my PC. I'm using 98MP10 for ~ 3 years now, and never ran into any problems. To extract 98MP10.INF from 98MP10.EXE, download 98MP10.EXE [7.5 MB]: http://www.mdgx.com/98mp10/98MP10.EXE Then run [example]: 98MP10.EXE /C /Q /T:C:\TEMP Then open 98MP10.INF into Notepad to view its contents. ... Or download this small zip... MP10INF.ZIP HTH
  16. Posted modded NVidia video driver 82.69 for Windows 98/ME: From README.TXT: Please test this modded INF with as many NVidia video cards as possible, to make sure it works ok.I've tested 82.69 with a GeForce Ti 4600 AGP, worked perfect, including overclocking the card. I'm also going to test it with a couple of 6xxxx + 7xxx series soon. The only bug: same as older 81.xx [81.85 + 81.98] series drivers, after I exit Windows GUI to native MS-DOS, and then want to go back into Windows [run WIN.COM from C:\ prompt], the computer locks up. Enjoy. P.S.: All newer NVidia + ATI video drivers allow for resolutions much higher than 1024x768, but the trick is to customize the control panel to increase the vertical refresh frequency for all supported resolutions past the default 60/75/85 Hz, built into most drivers. You also need a CRT monitor which supports higher frequencies [most do, i.e. 100/120 Hz]. But if using an LCD monitor, you're stuck with 60 Hz. Newer LCDs I believe support 70/75 Hz. [?] HTH
  17. UPDATED 4-28-2007 Please see top of this topic to download + install updated patch: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=58780 _____________________________ Update: * Win98 SE = Old U891711 [temporary fix] replaced by new Q891711 [permanent fix]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/Q891711.TXT
  18. There are only 2 versions of NETAPI32.DLL that work with Win98 SE [with or without 98SE2ME options 1 or 2]: - NETAPI32.DLL 4.10.1998 = from Win98 SE setup CD-ROM/CABs - NETAPI32.DLL 4.90.3000 = from WinME setup CD-ROM/CABs M$ never released any (hot)fixes/patches/updates for these 98/ME files, that I'm aware of. All NT4, 2000, XP, 2003 or Vista versions do *not* work with 9x OSes. About the Live search script at my site: it should work ok, I downloaded it and added to this HTML page: http://www.mdgx.com/sl.php from the Live Search web site: http://search.live.com/siteowner It does work ok on my computer, with both Win98 SE + XP SP2, in all browsers I've tested so far: MS IE 6.0 SP1/7.0, Firefox 1.5.0.11 + 2.0.0.3, Mozilla/Seamonkey 1.1.1, Netscape 8.1.3, Opera 9.20, Netscape 3.04 Gold. If it doesn't work on your computer, you either: - do no wait for the loading... message to disappear = you must wait until the loading... text disappears from the search box in order to type your search keywords; - connect thru a remote/local proxy and your proxy scripts deny this URL. Not much you can do if using a remote proxy on a server you do no control. But if using a local proxy [software on your computer] or on a server you control [a cgi/perl/php/ASP script on your own server domain], make sure the Live servers are not banned/denied in the proxy scripts. - use a custom HOSTS files in %windir% [usually C:\WINDOWS] that lists the Live servers preceded by 127.0.0.1 or by 0.0.0.0 or by 0 . HOSTS guide: http://www.mdgx.com/hosts.htm If this is the case, you must remove all lines that point to the Live servers from your HOSTS file. Then you need to reload your web browser(s) for the modified HOSTS to load, be it MS IE [+ its variants: Maxthon, Crazy Browser, Neoplanet, Avant, SlimBrowser etc], Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, Opera, Seamonkey etc; - if using a firewall or an internet security suite or an anti-malware utility that bans/denies access to specific servers, you need to make sure Live servers are not on their lists; - if using MS IE -> Internet Options/Properties -> Security tab -> Restricted Sites -> custom Sites list, you need to make sure Live servers are not on that list; - if using MS IE -> Internet Options/Properties -> Privacy tab -> Advanced -> Override automatic cookies handling -> make sure the "Always allow session cookies" box is checked; - if using MS IE -> Internet Options/Properties -> Privacy tab -> Edit -> "Managed Web Sites" list -> make sure Live servers are not on that list. Live servers: http://search.live.com/ http://live.com/ http://www.live.com/ Live search servers use extensively Javascript [and possibly VBScript], therefore you must have Javascript and VBScript enabled. HTH [Hope This Helps]

  20. If you wish to uninstall 98SE2ME [i assume you're refering to options 1 or 2 = which install the ~ 700 WinME system files], just follow this step-by-step guide from READ1ST.TXT [the "BACKUP + RESTORE WINDOWS 98 SE" section]:READ1ST.TXT Just make sure you have a backup [which you should have created whenever you installed 98SE2ME for the 1st time to preserve original 98 SE system files] to restore from. But it is not necessary to uninstall anything, because 98SE2ME is always a full install package, and always performs the same full install which also include all current changes/updates [in this case the only changes are installing WinME SIGVERIF.EXE renamed file, WinME SIGVERIF.HLP + 2 shortcuts]. Just run the current 98SE2ME.EXE 4-28-2007 edition, as usual [3 MB]: http://www.mdgx.com/4 and install option 1 or 2. That's it. This will copy SIGVERIF.EXE from WinME CABs to %windir% as SIGVRFME.EXE, in order to keep Win98 SE SIGVERIF.EXE . After reboot, you can run either 1 of these tools from their shortcuts: ... excerpt from UPDATES.TXT [4-28-2007 update]:UPDATES.TXT HTH

  23. I have posted in another topic about 98-to-ME stand alone 1.0: EXPLORER.EXE is actually newer 98 SE explorer 4.72.3612.1700 from IE 5.01 install CAB = with Dr. Hoiby's 256 colors fix + modded by Gape with 98SE banner. To install EXPLORER.EXE 5.50.4134.100 from WinME setup CD-ROM [similar to 98SE2ME option 3], you need *all* other files installed by option 3 *and* the registry entries listed under the [WW] section in the O3RES.INF file from 98SE2ME.EXE *and* the fixed IMGVIEW.HTT from 98SE2ME.EXE. Complete details in READ1ST.TXT [see "* Option 3:" section under "98SE2ME.PIF COMPLETE GUIDE" chapter]: http://www.mdgx.com/9s2m/READ1ST.TXT Lines you need from O3RES.INF: HTH
  24. I do wonder too? Are there a few dependencies missing or a bunch. Not to nag but this is a feature i would like to see on my Windows 98SE2ME if possible. Not to my knowledge, unless some1 wishes to hex-edit the ME files to make them work with 98 SE.I've already answered this question here: http://www.msfn.org/board/?s=&showtopi...st&p=600110 and here: http://www.msfn.org/board/?s=&showtopi...st&p=517931 P.S.: This topic has been discussed before, and to my knowledge no new information has surfaced to date. Please let me know if all is said and done on this subject, so I can close this topic. Thanks. HTH
