  1. Try also this one... Tweaked Unofficial NVIDIA Display Driver 82.69 for Windows 98/98 SE/ME [14.5 MB]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/NV8269.EXE Documentation: http://www.mdgx.com/files/NV8269.TXT Modded NVAGP.INF = added support for *all* : - GeForce, GeForce Go + Quadro 5xxx, 6xxx, 7xxx + 8xxx series. - GeForce + Quadro PCI, AGP + PCI-x series. - GeForce 7950 SLI PCI-x series. - Vertical refresh frequencies + all normal and widescreen resolutions for video driver + CRT/LCD monitors. - Languages DLL + HLP files from NVIDIA Display Driver 93.71. - Registry tweaks to allow access to hidden/undocumented options. FYI: PCI-x may or may not work, depending on motherboard, chipset, GPU. HTH P.S.: ZakMcKracken84: Some of the registry tweaks in your INF are broken, for example some dword values were written into the registry as plain string [REG_SZ] values, and others had wrong dword values. I've corrected them all, and added a few more. Please look at the NVAGP.INF file inside NV8269.EXE [built with Iexpress]. To extract all files without installing anything, just run [using C:\TEMP in this example]: NV8269 /C /Q /T:C:\TEMP Have fun.
  2. The program is called OSR2FIX, found at: http://www.mdgx.com/dos.htm * Unofficial Windows 95/OSR1/OSR2/98/98 SE OSR2FIX v1.57: http://win95.winware.org/ includes: - HIMEM.BUG [OSR 2.0/OSR 2.1]: International (other than U.S. English) IO.SYS + HIMEM.SYS Memory Leak Fix. - DUALBOOT.BUG [OSR 2.x]: Dual-Boot with MS-DOS 6.xx Fix. - WIN3X.BUG [95/OSR1/OSR2/98/98 SE]: enable Windows/WfWG 3.1x install/run under MS-DOS 7.xx + FAT32 Fix. Direct download [30 KB, freeware]: http://www.gaby.de/ftp/pub/win3x/osr2fix.exe See "IO.SYS FIX": http://www.mdgx.com/osr2.htm#IOFIX + "DUAL-BOOT IN OSR2/WIN98": http://www.mdgx.com/osr2.htm#2BOOT for more details. 3. NEW: Campaign logos [69 KB, ZIPPed] Also updated campaign promo: http://www.mdgx.com/spx/ and included the Alive Logos link. Enjoy.
  4. I've already told [soporific, I believe] that I have enough web space to host any updates. All some1 has to do is send me the files, and I'll upload them asap. HTH
  5. Q870669 installs the ADODB.Stream ActiveX Object registry fix:-----Begin cut & paste here----- REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\CLSID\{00000566-0000-0010-8000-00AA006D2EA4}] "Compatibility Flags"=dword:00000400 ------End cut & paste here------ and it is both a M$ IE 5/6 fix and a MDAC 2.x fix. But as far as I'm aware M$ has not added it into any MDAC cumulative/newer fix. So any cumulative MDAC update [like Maximus-Decim's] needs this fix. On the other hand, M$ has added it as part of MS IE 5/6/7 Cumulative fix a while back: http://www.mdgx.com/ietoy.htm#IEC So any cumulative M$ IE 5/6 update [like MDIE6CU and IE6UPD] do not need this fix. HTH
  6. UPDATED · 5-14-2007 Updated: - Updated DXTEST.EXE = added PC Player + converted to exe installer. - Added KernelEx = new ver 0.3.1. - Updated HHUPD.EXE = updated HHCRTL.OCX to ver 5.2.3790.2847. - Updated TOOLS9X.EXE = corrected shutdown.exe -f switch info. HTH
  7. should not be installed on 98/98 SP1/98 SE/ME or NT4 = IEINFO5.OCX is flawed on these OSes = works properly only with Windows 2000. obsolete = replaced by unofficial CRYPTME.EXE . current = this IMGUTIL.DLL is the last one which works properly with IE 6.0 SP1 + all 98/ME OSes. obsolete = installs as part of unofficial Q931768 (and a few older editions) IE 6.0 SP1 cumulative security fix:http://www.mdgx.com/ietoy.htm#IEC current = this MLANG.DLL is the last one which works properly with IE 6.0 SP1 + all 98/ME OSes. current = this MSHTMLED.DLL is the last one which works properly with IE 6.0 SP1 + all 98/ME OSes. until now this HHCTRL.OCX was the last one which worked properly with IE 6.0 SP1 + all 98/ME OSes.But I've just updated HHUPD.EXE to include newer HHCTRL.OCX 5.2.3790.2847 (fixes a security flaw released officially only for WinXP SP2 = Q935448) = tested to work properly with IE 6.0 SP1 + all 98/ME OSes. Already posted here: http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#HHU as HHUPD.EXE [714 KB, English]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/HHUPD.EXE Also posted here: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46581 current = the files installed by unofficial DXM9X.EXE are the last ones which work properly with IE 6.0 SP1 + all 98/ME OSes. current but not that important = RUNHELP.EXE fix installs a redirecting HTML file which correctly opens HTML Help (by running "%windir%\HH.EXE %windir%\HELP\WINDOWS.CHM") by running an INF file which is compressed inside a CAB file.Installs 2 files: RUNHELP.CAB (which contains RUNHELP.INF) + HTMLHELP.HTM (which opens RUNHELP.CAB) into %windir% . 11. This unofficial update does not erase any files. This update backs up (copies) your files from C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM : USER32.DLL and USER.EXE as USER32.O98 and USER.O98 . After that, this update copies the new USER32.DLL and USER.EXE 4.10.2233 to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM . Last step: you need to reboot when done. U891711 and old Microsoft (official) Q891711 updates should not interfere with this newer unofficial update, the files are completely different. But these files should be translated into Brazilian Portuguese [thank you Max_04], otherwise you will see all messages in English. Google translation from English to Portuguese: Hope This Helps
  12. Have you looked on Samsung's web site for updated monitor drivers?http://www.samsung.com/support/productsupp...load/index.aspx You could also [if you know your monitor's supported refresh rates] add them manually into your registry. This may help: http://www.mdgx.com/newtip23.htm#OVRR Or you could even write your own INF to add more supported refresh rates for most resolutions, based on older Samsung INF files (if any). Just make sure to name it something like 1SAMSUNG.INF [or similar = alphabetically comes before any official Samsung INFs you may have, and thus will be detected 1st] and place it in %windir%\INF so Windows Hardware Wizard can detect it. I've been using a 21" Panasonic PanaSync/Pro P110 CRT for a long time, and never had any problems. HTH
  13. NativeTexan: If Live search at my site still doesn't work for you: http://www.mdgx.com/sl.php try the Google search box [the blue magnifying glass button] for my site, it has the advantage that it displays cached pages with keywords highlighted: http://www.mdgx.com/search.htm I've put Google search back in at my site recently. My main page: http://www.mdgx.com/ also has a navy-on-pink Google button on the left side menu near the top, right under the "Lost? NOT!" message. I don't think Google search requires any special permissions, unless you're using some custom firewall/internet protection tools/hosts scripts/permissions/protection. HTH
  14. To my knowledge, Petr added only Intel Pentium III/IV strings into UPDATE.SYS, so if you are using an AMD CPU, it won't make any difference. But I suggest using the WinME UPDATE.SYS 4.90.3001 [modded by Petr], because in my experience is 100% compatible with Win98 SE, and may have more AMD CPUs listed than the Win98 SE UPDATE.SYS. * Unofficial Windows ME Updated CPU Microcode UPDATE.SYS 4.90.3001 Fix includes most current Intel CPUs: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=44388 Direct download [168 KB, English]: http://www.mdgx.com/files/MEUPDSYS.EXE To install it on 98 SE: 1. Extract UPDATE.SYS from MEUPDSYS.EXE by running from a DOS box [example using C:\TEMP as extract folder]: MD C:\TEMP if not present on your computer. Then run: MEUPDSYS.EXE /C /Q /T:C:\TEMP 2. Copy UPDATE.SYS to %windir%\system32\drivers . 3. Reboot. P.S.: UPDATE.SYS 4.90.3001 installs also as part of 98SE2ME options 1 + 2: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=46349 HTH
  15. soporific: As far as I'm aware, the anonymous author used SHELL32.DLL 4.72.3812.600 from Q313829 to create SHELL98 [sHELL32.DLL 4.72.3812.634]. SHELL98 backs up any SHELL32.DLL [no matter the version] present in %windir%\system as SHELL32.ORI . If the user uninstalls SHELL98, the original SHELL32.ORI [no matter the version] is renamed back to SHELL32.DLL after reboot. This way the older Q313829 can be installed, but only if newer SHELL98 is uninstalled first [automated installs too], or if the user allows the older file to replace the newer one [manual installs only] = should be a dialog box for that. BTW: SHELL98 also installs the 2 registry entries you are referring to [i copied them from Q313829 ]: HTH
  16. Installed_Files_Checker 3.0 works great on my Win98 SE PC. Keep up the good work. Best wishes.

  18. MOONLIGHT SONATA: Have you tried X-Setup Pro 6.6 [4.54 MB, freeware, English]: http://digilander.libero.it/molearchive3/x...sp-setup-en.zip Tweaks over 1800 settings, backs up modified registry keys, supports add-on plugins. This is *the* all-in-1 tweaking tool. FYI: X-Setup Pro 9.0 [current version] is shareware: ;-( http://www.x-setup.net/product/ HTH
  19. Be careful to *never* select/use frequencies that were not on the list of your particular monitor (CRT) for a specific resolution. If you do, your monitor may just die. More info: http://www.mdgx.com/newtip23.htm#OVRR HTH The sense of installing the drivers of your monitor IS to have only the resolutions listed that work with it. I do not need any advice on that =). I have only pointed out to all forum readers [because some may not know; this was not meant specifically for you or anybody else in particular, btw] that it is dangerous to select a vertical refresh frequency not supported by either a monitor [CRT or LCD] or video adapter, because might cause permanent damage to 1 or the other, or even both. Some LCD monitors have internal protection routines built into their hardware to avoid damage, but most don't, and I don't know of any CRTs that do. Just by installing the correct monitor driver [usually just an INF file with lists of frequencies which match a list of resolutions] and the manufacturer provided video adapter driver does not protect video hardware from physical damage, because there are video adapter drivers which list unsupported frequencies and/or allow to list such frequencies. Examples: the NVidia Override Refresh Rates tab to use with applications or the list of unsupported refresh rates that can be enabled in WinXP NVidia control panel. Because such settings are available one way or another, depends mostly on the user's degree of savviness not to play around with unsupported frequencies. Also, some users [myself included] like to mess around/experiment with INF files/registry settings, and if one doesn't know what they are doing, they can cause hardware damage. HTH

  22. Please read this post... No, because 4.90.3001 don't have the .ANI fix, but 4.10.2233 don't have the mouse cursor erratic movement fix.So it's a trade-off. 98SE2ME installs WinME files, which otherwise can't be installed in "normal" conditions. Example: USER*.* 4.90.3001 hotfix [ME280800.EXE] cannot be installed on Win98SE, one has to 1st extract the files and then manually copy them over to %windir%\system from native MS-DOS and finally reboot. But 98SE2ME installs them in 1 step, without any intervention from the user, as part of options 1 + 2. I'm actually considering removing USER*.* 4.90.3001 altogether from 98SE2ME sometime in the future, but I'm still waiting a while, in the hope that anonymous author might one day wish to patch them to something like 4.90.3002 to include the .ANI fix. If that happens, those files would have *both* fixes, and will be worth keeping as part of 98SE2ME options 1 + 2. FYI: Anoynymous author has also sent me USER 4.10.2234 for Win98SE [fixed also mouse cursor erratic movement (same as USER*.* 4.90.3001) besides the .ANI fix], but those files were buggy, in the sense that the mouse cursor disappeared completely from the desktop on my computer, no matter which mouse drivers I was using. ;-( So he had to revert back to USER*.* 4.10.2233 , which fixed only the .ANI bug, but *not* the mouse cursor erratic movement bug. That's why we are all using now USER*.* 4.10.2233, which do not have the mouse cursor erratic movement fix that is fixed by USER*.* 4.90.3001 . HTH

  25. soporific: I took the liberty and created an INF based iexpress installer for this purpose [enable and disable DMA at will for all IDE HDs]: This is meant as replacement for AutoDMA.exe + Dmainf.zip .I can rename it to something else, like AutoDMA.exe or Dmainf.exe if you wish. HTH
