the best reason for Vista, is simply because its up-to-date
gdogg replied to ps24eva's topic in Windows XP
vista is looking mighty nice, but there is only one version i'd want to use ultimate edition (better be cheap enought) , it has game tweaker thingy, making games faster (i figure its maybe, they'll choose to only enable super prefetch with this version? maybe thats the game tweaker? who knows) anyway, if the price is right remember, but like you, not til sp3 or sp4 become a bigg security hole like 2k is getting with these worms. anyway, even then, my microwinX project, is my current passion and it will probbally what i use, until all games go DX10 anyway. but im just trying to show both sides, vista, according to the artical, is only allowing in code, that passes that code analyzer nothing else is allowed. I figure this could be the best os to come out of microsoft, but also, probally after sp1 of vista. cause like others have pointed out a year after, its normally alot better of an OS. but even perfect code can crash (can't it?) -
so single processor machine, with under 4GB ram needs ntoskrnlpa.exe i think or you can add this line to the boot.ini /NOPAE see if you can still run java, in a website with IE, if so, then /NOPAE does the same thing as ntoskrnlpa.exe being deleted basically, your boot.ini, you'd have like multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\X="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=AlwaysOff /fastdetect /3GB /NOPAE where X is windows

dirtwarrior, basically, i found that, when you do /3GB and delete the file ntoskrnlpa.exe (dont if you have =>4GB ram) that windows used far less memory than without it, like 45MB in my tests. (with other apps installed of coarce) but it has no effect in my microwinX project, @ bootup atleast.

im just trying to point out, if you are a user, who enjoys DRM, and basically things to stop you from using your computer the way you might want to. then vista is a good choice for your next os. mainly because microsoft had to stop, and then start from scratch, using a method very similar to a core and compile method used my linux. not exactly i know , but similar, there will be a vista core, and all code to be used in vista, get sent through this "junk code" finding machine, that refuses any code, where errors (junk) are found. If i had the article still, i'd like to it.' it is this junk code, and stuff, that is where most exploits and security holes lie. (according to this article) -
nothing is executable but what you choose dont try confusing the users of this project. here is an example you are in this windows you install a peice of software pre-patching that then places a .exe to execute on startup in \windows (the virus right) then you run this patch. this virus will probally fail to load, because a depency of it, and nearly every .exe isn't there in \windows to run it. also after you've been patched. execution of installers isn't happening, without its depenacies being under \windows in the end this gives you virus immunity, because you never accidently install a virus or have something auto execute on you. in the end. its a gain and a loss, but thats what this project is all about. install your software. patch, then your box is more secure then a virus scanner, spyware scanner and firewall can do for you, even with just the firewall. not tested but im sure you can use a virus scan in this windows too, if your really touchy. but in the end not even virus scanners can give you this type of security. new virus' come out everyday, and i had a friend that got 15 virus' nod32 (probally the best av on the planet) didn't find, even with upto definitions. then there was another time, one broke nod32 , so you thought it was working, but nope, it wasn't. what i did to check for virus' in my windows was , try to execute them, get the dependacy error, then restart, and scan the drive for virus from another windows with nod32 av 2.5 beta.

its available already in beta 1.5 phase, cause beta 1 wasn't great. beta 2 will be in the next couple of days beta 3 (public one) shortly after virus immunity (100% one) will be a bit longer, as i broke my test microwinX @ the same time, my registry backup got corrupted, so i have to start from 1 month ago on the registry about virus immunity, it is possible to get a virus. but not unless you put the virus in the backup directory of the windows xp itself, the desktop, or anywhere else you would download your virus to, would be immune to the execution of anything.

actually vista should be the most stable and secure ever to come out of microsoft there using a method that nearly completly gets rid of all garbage code. but im not a fan of DRM and such. i'd like to just enjoy what ive always been able to do on my computer -

simonsays, so its gotta be true anyway if google wasn't making an os, what was the point in joining sun with there 3d gui thing -
I am trying to find howto do this, i think it will be something in the boot.ini google hasn't found me anything. this is how that 7-max program improves your speed.
-
i dont think this is a memory cleaner. what is does is like, it takes like 128MB of your memory, but from the tests, it makes doing 7zip's and rar archives encode faster.
-
where could you find out your dma buffer size? your welcome for the tweak, i can post again now
-
ok after beta 2 , ill start working with you aegis expect beta two in the first 3 days of this week
-
ok, good stuff but to answer his question. why we dont make an ultimate xp different goals, and different ways of doing things i guess neither me nor aegis have even talked about joining, as our projects are different.
-
yes, with a router everyone, my inbox is full, with beta requests. Meaning beta 2 is now full, and you will have to wait for public beta 3 to try this now.

microsoft is a monopoly. there os's normally have not been worth the upgrade. except 98 to xp, that was 100% worth it, I love how the computer doesn't crash once every 3 hours now. but anyway. I am hoping for a google OS around the time of vista also osx86, and maybe something like linux for a noob, thats also secure by default -
yes cable internet works. got a router yet? @clint ROFLMFAO mindows is currently 2k3 if im not mistaken

oh and one more thing what website claims that increase file system cache improves workstation performance? you should post links to sites, where these supposed myths exist. you know, i got a new myth for your site myth - suspend mode decreases boot times fact - suspend mode in no which way or form will decrease boot times. If you fell for this myth, you were just gullible. Why you might ask? because suspend is not booting, it is suspending and resuming.
-
your awfully parinoid but what amazes me is you think i have something to do with crap cleaner. when i have hundreds of posts in these forums, its would be like me thinking you have something to do with M$ cause your new, are saying something that cleanly didn't improve boot times for a huge amount of us nlite users, not just me. honestly man, your myth isn't always 100% true, now, go reword it, to say, on my computer this myth is true, in these aricals i found this myth is true, but for some, the myth might just be my website. and yet, you think my tests a year ago, and yesterday are all b$, come on man, get real, you havn't provided a single piece of evidence to back up your claims. where are screeshots of bootvis plz. and about the myth, it was completly bogus, and contradicted itself, til i told you about it. not only that, but the way you now worded it, is so obvious in the first place increasing system cache, doesn't improve workstation peroformance , DUH. but b4 it said, increasing system cache, doesn't improve filesystem performance, but yes it did, and you even went on to say it did.
-
but no where does CCleaner say that everything will improve performance. (even though it does anyway, even with the prefetch thing) just not for you. so there is no myth here, and it doesn't apply to your site . I also found that your site had a fake myth on it yesterday, and you re-worded, its only a matter of time, b4 more of your myths that you busted, once again, get proven to work, infact, so you have reword your site again. dont make me do a boycott XP Myths, i can, it will be easy, show them google cache of yesterday, then today, come on man. Remove that for the good of the world, CCleaner rocks.

mastertech you have got to admit. not only was that funny, but it also made lots of sence. so plz stop slandering a great peice of software on your website
