Steam is needed for Half-Life 2, and there is no legal way to play it without Steam. But Steam is not necessary for Half-Life (1), Blue Shift and Opposing Force, you just need to find the retail CD, search for Sierra Half-Life BestSeller Series or Sierra Half-Life Generation Bundle...

@Bruninho No problems with the profiles and address bar. Bookmarks not working.

If you possess a cygwin installer and local copies of cygwin packages you can select which package to install. And yes, this version is newer than Cygwin-Lite. A customer asked me to port some software to 9x platform for in-house use, so i use it to recompile that software...
-
nope, just KernelEx with upd v20 compatibility option set to xp sp2, it works even on 98fe.
-
it's too big for upload, however there is a compact version with 400+ packages included. https://github.com/whitone/cygwin-easy/releases/tag/2007.03.21 To make it work on 9x system: 1) Download Cygwin-Easy-2007.03.21.iso and extract(cygwin folder only) to C:\ 2) Goto C:\cygwin, create cygwin.bat @echo off C: chdir C:\cygwin\bin bash --login -i 3) Create shortcut on desktop to cygwin.bat (Cmd line: C:\Windows\Command.com /E:4096 /c C:\cygwin\cygwin.bat) 4) Open MS-DOS Prompt and type: subst P: C:\ Now cygwin can be started... Good luck.

So, you're looking for an additional compatibility layer?
-
But something like this already exists, it was called Win32s.

You should check the dev_id to find the right driver. I didn't try it on QEMU but one of my workstations have integrated Ensoniq ES1370, and only working driver is http://ftp.dyu.edu.tw/pub/e64w9xup.exe.html

If you need informations (more then you can find in motherboard manual) read some old books. I recommend "The BIOS Companion" by Phil Croucher ISBN: 0-9681928-0-7. I can take a photos of my bios settings(Abit BH6), (if you want?) so you can get the idea what to do with your system.

Some features must be disabled, features like System/Video BIOS caching, shadowing, Memory hole etc...

Yes,-> 440BX. https://www.anandtech.com/show/556

I am quite sure that it is possible, but working on a project like this in 2020 would be a waste of time. You'd better ask RLoew's son if he want to release the "DllHook" this may help you run the player application on Win95.

Yes, TrueCrypt v1.0 it works on 9x platform. https://cyberside.planet.ee/truecrypt/ -
No, unless you create your own List Box Control. https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/desktop/bb761319
-
It won't work because number of words that need to be listed in "List Box" control exceed the maximum number of items allowed for 9x systems... If you reduce size of "BT-main_01.txt" file (to 32KB i think) it will work.

^Goodmaneuver which post? Can you link it please? I see now, but disabling Kex on Usp10.dll do not help. I installed 98se to another VM but without SP and there it works.
-
@jumper I found that ServicePack for WIN98SE corrupts the Uniscribe, and that's why my browser can not display text.

^^^Destro, this is on modern computer in virtual machine for testing purpose, I would not even dare to try it on PIII hardware. I have a collection of 9x dedicated machines and a collection of 9x compatible graphics cards, some of these machines are strong enough to do all the things you mentioned. ^^siria It is Kex 20 and it is set to "Alias for Base enhancements (old)", if i set compatibility to win2k it just show blank page and cannot load any page. No crashes at all, but can not display text. ^jumper, I think this is some sort of configuration issue because the same thing happens to Aurora 7.0 and Firefox 10 if they are set to "Alias for Base enhancements (old)", if is set to any other mode it crashes during startup. But on another VM where i have installed Win98Fe + SP 2.5.8 + Kex 20 both Aurora 7.0 and Firefox 10 work correctly if it is set to "Windows 2000 SP4 (Multi-Threaded)", if other mode is set it can not display text. On that installation KM 74 can not be started at all, it crashes during startup. K-MELEON caused an invalid page fault in module KEXBASES.DLL at 015f:bfa4b9c9.
