NVidia Quadro FX 5500 and others - your experience?
ABCDEFG replied to ragnargd's topic in Windows 9x/ME
7950GT is faster then 7800GTX. 7900GTO is faster then 7950GT. 7900GTX is faster then 7900GTO. -------------------------------------------- 7950 GX2 is a 2 x 7950GT but only one half is working in win98, so basically this is 1 7950GT with 50MHz lower core clock speed. 7950 GX2 is a good card but i think there is no benefits from GX2 cards for 9x users, but if you allready have one you won't have to puchase other card. -
Appying Rloew's Ram Patch to Fresh Windows ME Installation?
ABCDEFG replied to FantasyAcquiesce's topic in Windows 9x/ME
The patch can be started in windows. Going into dos mode is not needed. For fresh WinMe installation just limit memory pages in C:\Windows\system.ini and system can start without patch. [386Enh] MaxPhysPage=40000 you can edit your system.ini from your WindowsMe boot disk using (CD letter):\tools\oldmsdos\qbasic.exe Of course that's only if you have a cd drive, othewise you need to make a bootable usb... -

All useful software during that era (9x-2003) wasn't free. However, there were a trial versions. So, try this -> Old Camtasia it is 30 trial version... Good luck.

Revolution Pack setup a System-wide hook. KernelEx too, just different methods. So, at some point cross redirection happens, i guess...

No need for DirectX.

Steam is needed for Half-Life 2, and there is no legal way to play it without Steam. But Steam is not necessary for Half-Life (1), Blue Shift and Opposing Force, you just need to find the retail CD, search for Sierra Half-Life BestSeller Series or Sierra Half-Life Generation Bundle...

If you possess a cygwin installer and local copies of cygwin packages you can select which package to install. And yes, this version is newer than Cygwin-Lite. A customer asked me to port some software to 9x platform for in-house use, so i use it to recompile that software...

nope, just KernelEx with upd v20 compatibility option set to xp sp2, it works even on 98fe.
-
it's too big for upload, however there is a compact version with 400+ packages included. https://github.com/whitone/cygwin-easy/releases/tag/2007.03.21 To make it work on 9x system: 1) Download Cygwin-Easy-2007.03.21.iso and extract(cygwin folder only) to C:\ 2) Goto C:\cygwin, create cygwin.bat @echo off C: chdir C:\cygwin\bin bash --login -i 3) Create shortcut on desktop to cygwin.bat (Cmd line: C:\Windows\Command.com /E:4096 /c C:\cygwin\cygwin.bat) 4) Open MS-DOS Prompt and type: subst P: C:\ Now cygwin can be started... Good luck.

So, you're looking for an additional compatibility layer?

But something like this already exists, it was called Win32s.

You should check the dev_id to find the right driver. I didn't try it on QEMU but one of my workstations have integrated Ensoniq ES1370, and only working driver is http://ftp.dyu.edu.tw/pub/e64w9xup.exe.html

If you need informations (more then you can find in motherboard manual) read some old books. I recommend "The BIOS Companion" by Phil Croucher ISBN: 0-9681928-0-7. I can take a photos of my bios settings(Abit BH6), (if you want?) so you can get the idea what to do with your system.

Some features must be disabled, features like System/Video BIOS caching, shadowing, Memory hole etc...

Yes,-> 440BX. https://www.anandtech.com/show/556

I am quite sure that it is possible, but working on a project like this in 2020 would be a waste of time. You'd better ask RLoew's son if he want to release the "DllHook" this may help you run the player application on Win95.
