  1. A friend of mine has a HP Compaq dc5700 Small Form Factor PC that he wanted me to install xp on. Well I ran into a problem and can't seem to get around it. I couldn't for the life of me get the **** thing to boot from the cd drive even after I set it to do so. I did some reading and found out why it wouldn't; TPM 1.2. Its security feature pretty much prevents users from booting from a cd without proper authorization. How can I get around this, if possible?
  2. So are you suggesting that I should install windows server 2003 and create a domain with it? Can that be done given the fact that I only have enough resources to run 4 vms and a Host at the moment? I don't quite understand what you're saying with that statement............due to my lack of knowledge of course. rpc? msdtc? w32 time? CBT? Stick with, I'll get there eventually Thats the plan You're correct, but I just don't have the money right now
  3. First let me say thanks for both of your replies. My intentions are to get some realistic work environment practice as I study for the MCSA title. I know I won't be able to emulate a big enterprise, but I want to be able to get some hands on experience. I'm hoping to start out with a work group that consist of 5 workstations (4 vms with 128ram each =512 and my Host) until I get another 1GB stick of RAM. I want to create problem real world scenarios in the work group, Like printing problems internet problem, shared folder problems, etc. Pretty much any problem that might arise in a real working environment. If you guys can help with that I'd really appreciate it. PS I have XP Home on my host right now, would you suggest that I install a copy of Windows Server 2003 to manage the work group?
  4. Can someone help me with what I can and can't do with vmware and my current pc setup in order to get some virtual hands on practice. My PC setup is 3.4ghz P4, 1GBRAM, 100GB of free space, 7800GT. VMWare Workstation 6, VMWare ESX Server, VMware-server 1.0.2-39867. Windows XP Pro SP2 Windows server 2003, and Windows 2000 pro. Is there anything else that I need? I'm wanting to get some hands on experience with a typical work environment dealing with multiple workstations, but I don't have a lab setup at home; vmware is my only alternative. Is there anyone here who is equipped with this knowledge?
  5. First let me state that I fully understand the fact that certs. alone really don't guarantee much. I'm searching for answers that deal with obtaining the knowledge of the following skills: SQL Server and Sequel Query Language Exchange Server Group Policy Backup Exec Symantec Antivirus (Corporate and Enterprise) Cisco PIX Sonicwall Citrix and Terminal Server Wyse Terminals GFI Mail Essentials Solarwinds Laserjet printers Tape drives and libraries Fibre channel and SCSI attached storage All RAID levels Cluster Server Scripting Is there one course that covers these skills, or am I looking at more than one course. There are a number of jobs in my area that require these skills, so thats why I'm asking about these certain skills. I love working with and on computers. I've built at least 5 pc's from the ground up. I often find myself troubleshooting and upgrading my family's and friend's pc's as a hobby, but know I want to get paid for my services. I've created small home networks that consisted of 4 pcs and two printers. I'd like to dabble into a larger scale of networking that didn't deal with cisco routers. I pickup and learn computer related skills and knowledge fairly quickly. I'm looking for a salary range of 35K-50Kusd; I understand salary varies from company to company, but I'd just like to give you some insight as to what I'm after. Can you guys give me some suggestions (as far as obtaining certain certs), based on the content of this thread?
  6. Currently I'm studying to become an electronic tech. but I like working with computers. I often get asked a number of computer questions; some I have the knowledge to answer and the others, well I just post on various forums to get the answers. I'm very interested in learning a little networking and would like your opinions on the Cisco Networking program. I'd like to be able to troubleshoot a network (assign and change IPs, add different equiptment to a network, etc.) Last week I was asked to check out a problem with a printed; I was told that the printer wouldn't print. Turned out there was nothing wrong with the printer, the printer wasn't receiving the info that was being sent to it due to the network crashed and was reset. I assumed the printer needed to be assigned a new ip address, but I was unable to help due to the lack of knowledge of networking. Would I have to take up the entire Cisco course, or are there specific areas of the Cisco course that I can take and still obtain the knowledge that I've spoken of?
  7. I created a XPCREATE disc, but when I ran the disc I got this error message: "The file ohci1394.sys is corrupted" Did I do something wrong
  8. First Hello I'm a noob when it comes to creating slipstream cds, so bare with me I've just built a pc that included a SATA/RAID mobo (Gigabyte 8I915PL-G Intel Socket 775 ATX Motherboard) I was able to install xp home on the SATA WD HDD, but bios shows it as IDE 0 master Another big problem is that I can't connect to the internet on the new system My mobo came with a drivers cd that allowed my to install most of the drivers after an os install except for one in particular; ITE IT8212 ATA RAID Controller. This driver needs to be preinstalled by floppy. I purchased a usb floppy drive with the intensions of loading the Raid controller from it, but my pc sees my usb floppy drive as floppy B: and installation only likes floppy A: Hence the use of XPCREATE. I'm hung up at the Can someone tell me exactly what it is I'm suppose to do at this point. Remember, I'm a noob, so don't assume I know certain thing pertaining to this Where and how do I create these directories? Where does the Raid controller go? The xpcreate guide doesn't mention ripping the xp cd; am I missing something Please help. Had my new system for a week now and I've been unable to enjoy it Why am I being forced to purchase or own a floppy anyway Sorry for my frustartion
