  1. Like what's been said, it could either be dirt or poor fan quality. It'd also suggest cleaning them out. You'll have to identify the source of the noise if the cleaning doesn't get rid of the noise. [ Moved to Hardware Hangout ]
  2. Holy crap dude... make a smaller version of the steeple_plunge.jpg image for the main page. It's painfully slow to load. If you're not at a loss for disk space (which you're not), you can easily afford to make a few thumbnails of the images, instead of forcing the user to load the whole image. Oh... and tables are still the old way of doing things. div's are where it's at. And the color scheme of the site is...well... lacking.
  3. I really recommend that EVERYONE read this article when asking the question "does my PSU have enough power". People far overestimate the amount of power their system requires, and often waste money on a high-wattage PSU when they don't need it.
  4. Just out of curiosity ripken - where's your website?
  5. I get the same results from the forum search. That might have to be rebuilt after the mod_rewrite patch was enabled. You can still find plenty of threads when using the Google search though.
  6. Ah... I remember that problem with PM7. If you're looking for a new tool, Acronis Disk Director is what I'd recommend today. I haven't had any troubles with it yet. *touch wood*
  7. It's interesting the note about raising up the laptop. I've seen so many laptop stands that have built in fans that just do absolutely nothing. The fans are there, whirring away, and my temperatures stay the exact same. On the other hand, I have an aluminum stand that simply raises the laptop away from the table surface. Voila! Hard drive goes from 40-50 C to 30-40 C. Yes, it's that much of a change. I was hoping to make a slightly better version myself in the machine shop... something that's tailor made to my laptop.
  8. Just as a suggestion - when people sign up for their Rosetta@Home accounts, use your screenname from the forums. That way we can easily see who's who. If you decide to leave the group later, you can easily change your username back to whatever you please.
  9. Yea, I'm an engineer... therefore I suck at grammar.
  10. I'd say Intel, for one simple reason. Upgradability. AMD systems have been shut out from upgrades, with the transition from S754 to S939 to AM2. Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 - $230 CAD Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 - $290 CAD The E6600 is a little over your price range, but you can always wait for one of the NCIX sales to come along. Another option is to buy cheap now, get a $50 Celeron (LGA775) and OC the crap out of it (they're surprisingly cool running). As long as your motherboard supports whatever is on the horizon, you'll be able to upgrade to that later. AMD's new CPU's that are coming out later this year will drive down the price of Intel's lineup.
  11. Yea - another feature I wish I had was the two finger scroll, like what's found in OSX. You can just drag two fingers anywhere on the touchpad to scroll the top application. Very handy, since you don't need to define a "scroll zone".
  12. Because mine is replaced by the pretty green label.
  13. Man...that's just bad...
  14. *Sets his 3 computers to join Rosetta@Home* EDIT - I just created a team for MSFN.org. I've got my three computers running on it, so all you need to do is join the team. http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/team_dis...php?teamid=5784
  15. http://www.savenetradio.org/ I listen to quite a bit of online radio, but I don't live in the states, so there isn't much that I can do about it. If you do live in the US, please contact your government representatives, otherwise a lot of the great internet radio sites will be forced to shut down!
  16. Gotta love sitting on top of the connection that used to host the .ca TLD.
  17. The stars are based on total post count. That's why XtremeMac has more stars than you, even though he's more or less inactive.
  18. The tap-zones without tapping isn't possible. I wanted the same thing, but never found a solution. I even messed with settings manually but no dice. I'm not sure, but the tapping sensitivity might be in the same section as the regular sensitivity... I haven't used a synaptics touchpad in a while.
  19. I'd have to say Opera, just because I'm familiar with it, and it just works out of the box as expected and wanted. I installed Fedora Core 6 on this computer, and it had Firefox as the default browser. No mouse gestures, strange tab options, and overall just an imcomplete feature set. I downloaded and installed Opera, and everything just works.
  20. Laptop: XP Pro x86 SP2 Home Workstation: XP Pro x86 SP2 Home Server: Server 2003 Enterprise x86 SP2 Work workstation: Fedora Core 6 (with Beryl installed!) Work servers: CentOS5 (20 of them)
  21. It's possible... but why would you waste that expensive of a licence on a workstation?
  22. @techywiz2007 - You don't have the ability to merge posts, only moderators do. You can though (as you've already figured out) edit your own posts to add new content to them.
  23. I think the floppy still has it's uses from time to time, but honestly I haven't touched one in ages...
  24. Is there any reason you don't want to use PM? I also use Disk Director, but I've still got an old version of PM 8.0 lying around that I still use on occasion.
