looking for a program to buy regarding cd writing
Zxian replied to mraslann's topic in Software Hangout
To try to un-jumble the original post... You're looking for a program that will let you burn a CD in a CD-RW drive that is in another computer? You should be able to do this in Windows, I think. Simply share the CD-RW drive in Windows, and map the network drive on the "client" computer. You should then be able to burn CDs as you would normally. I haven't tested this, but I know that I have write permissions to my boss' CD-RW drive here at work. -
There are tutorials on how to integrate drivers. nLite can do this for you with certain drivers. Otherwise look at any forums/topics that deal with Bâshrat the Sneaky. And yes... I changed my avatar. Naruto (my new favorite anime show) is getting really interesting.

BIOS passwords are a godsend when it comes to keeping your computer safe. They prevent someone from booting Knoppix/WinPE/BartPE/Winternals and messing with your system. Sure, they can be bypassed by clearing CMOS, but that takes actually opening up the system. As Ghostrider said, "Anyone who has physical access to your computer can get into the guts of it". You could set a group policy in the Guest account to only allow the specified programs to run (i.e. web browser, music player, whatever). Installers won't run (if you restrict msiexec from the account) and any programs that aren't specified will be stopped. Just as a final note, unless you have a need for a guest account, don't make one. If you have a guest account, but can't trust the people who use your computer, don't let them use it. It's as simple as that. If you're talking about a public place where you have little control of what people do, then look into DeepFreeze or RIS installs. They'll restore the computer on a specified schedule for you.

How does bright blue and green splashed all over the screen make it useful for beginners? Making things easy to find and use is what makes it useful for beginners. The search right in the start menu... that's a good idea. As for WMP, I think it's easier to use than any of the previous versions, at least from a visual layout POV. The play is in the middle, back to the left, forward to the right, etc. Compare that to WMP10 and you'll probably see that it's better. What's disappointing? The screenies don't tell you the half of how the OS works. Like you said, you need to use the OS to actually get a feel for how it works. As for the anti-spyware, that's just the nature of being #1 in market share.

@gunsmokingman - I'll put that under the "hardcore" section of the guide. @harunaksoy - Thanks for that. I'll test it out and add it to the list. @MCT - It's already there... @DivLog - Go advertise somewhere else. Several of your other threads regarding the tray clock program have been closed. -
The Set&Forget feature is almost matched by the PerfectDisk scheduler. I haven't tried O&O in a while, but for me with Diskeeper's Set&Forget, there isn't really much difference in terms of fragmentation in that and the weekly scheduled defrag with PerfectDisk at 3AM on Monday morning. As for boot time defrag, look at "Offline Defrag" in PerfectDisk. For the most part, you should only have to do this once per year or so. Anything more is excessive. The reason why I prefer PerfectDisk is that it organizes the files based on Usage. Diskeeper doesn't seem to do this (I've never noticed it doing this), and O&O's organization methods seem overly complicated and take a long time to perform.

The thing about the UBCD and hardware is that anything that Windows doesn't detect on its own won't show up in UBCD. If you need to install third party drivers for your NIC (from ASUS) to get it to work, then you'll need to integrate those drivers into the source for your UBCD. Same goes for the RAID controller.

Happy Birthday and congratulations!!! Enjoy the massive gaming power.

Did you use nLite? Checked any dependencies there? I'm guessing that you've got the latest video drivers as well, or tried to reinstall them?

Huh??? Ultrabuffer in Nero 6.6.0.18

When someone annoys you, it takes 42 muscles in your face to frown, but it only takes 4 muscles to extend your arm and b***h-slap that motherf***er upside the head.

Thanks again. I'll have a look at some of the programs and update the guide over the weekend (hopefully). I don't think I'll add StyleXP though, since it's essentially a pretty front-end for the uxtheme.dll patch and what Windows is already capable of. Not to mention that I've just had bad experiences with that program. Oh... and several of those links are dead. Google will help though. -
Have a look at the motherboard manual. There should be a description for extra USB connectors on the motherboard. Hopefully, if you've got a nice case, the connector will be one solid 2x5 plug that fits right over the 9 pins on the motherboard (1 pin is a dummy pin to prevent you from plugging it in backwards).

What the.... I see Ubuntu.... and a Mac theme... but then Photoshop? Is that running under Wine? That OS seems like it's going through some identity crisis problems. It's pretty nonetheless.

Let me rephrase your question for you... What do you need your CD burning program to do? Burn Data CDs? Burn Audio CDs? Burn VCDs? Burn Multisession Discs? Burn Data DVDs? Burn Video DVDs? Copy discs? Burn CD/DVD Images? Encode audio tracks? Nero 6 does all these for me... I can't really think of anything else I need my DVD-RW drive to do... Oh... and the installer for Nero6 for me is 16MB.

I always consider the default Administrator account a backup in the event that something goes completely haywire with your account. By having a second account with administrative priveledges, you don't loose any functionality, but you have the security of being able to recover your data and settings if your account becomes corrupted (by a virus or the like).
-
It's often not a good idea to run as the default Administrator account. If you want to run as an admin, you should use another account that has administrative priveledges. You can use TweakUI to show the administrator account on the welcome screen.

And you followed the instructions here? Try following these instructions as well. - Link' Also, make sure that ccapp.exe is running in your processes (look in Task Manager->Processes). There are a couple of mentions on the Symantec website that the program will fail to load unless that's started.

You can run this instead of the shutdown command. It's just a batch file converted to exe using QBFC with the following command: shutdown.exe -r -f -t 00 What Sonic was saying is that you can use the ping command as a timer, since it will ping once per second for you. Set it to do that for 30 times, and you won't need the Shutdown window to appear. shutdown2.7z -

Added LClock, Y'z Shadow, and Y'z Toolbar. Thanks Martijn. -
Have you uninstalled and reinstalled NAV2005? Have you looked at the Symantec website (the link is given to you right in the error box)? In other words, what have you already tried, so that we don't go repeating things again? Norton products may be slow and bloated, but Symantec has the right tools available to make sure that you're able to install/uninstall their products.

Don't you mean AMD Athlon XP 2500+? Try downgrading your BIOS or chipset drivers if possible. Also, have you tried running the game when under Windows' power setting of "Always on"?

.NET 2.0 should be installed on all PCs anyways. More and more programs are being developed for .NET framework, so there's not really any reason not to install it.

Making the taskbar transparent can be done by either using WindowBlinds5 Beta (or final when it comes out), or by adding the section of your background that would normally sit behind the taskbar as a "mask" to the source files of the theme. The latter takes a bit of know-how, and should probably be described elsewhere by someone who's actually done it (DarkWader perhaps..?). There are some other third party apps that will make the titlebar transparent as well. WindowFX from StarDock is an example of this. Google should help you find some of them. -
