If you want to use prefetching for faster loading of websites and their content, you should untick this option in uBO to avoid interference. But prefetching and DNS prefetching shouldn't be mixed up.

Update notification! As already reported, the Root Certificates have been updated and are now from 28-05-2024. Here again a screenshot: I totally forgot to update my self-created, offline Root Certificate Updaters in the section 11.2.4. If I wanted to install a Comodo Firewall 6.x.x version, I would go with Comodo Firewall 6.3.39949.2976 as it is the last archived version. You know I personally prefer Windows 10 Firewall Control XP Plus which I have been using for many years.

So, have you found anything yet? I'm pretty sure that the original installer was stored somewhere on the Windows system partition. When the uninstaller is called to change features, you can check which files are accessed. I assume it'll be a MSI installer.

It's been a long time when I used Comodo Firewall. If I remember correctly, I stopped using it at the version 5. Which version introduced the modernised UI you don't like? BTW and AFAIK, Comodo Firewall 8.4.0.5165 was the last properly working version in Windows XP.

You're welcome. I only picked installers of version 6.x as I was of the impression you'd prefer the version 6. But other versions are also still available.

BTW, there is a chance that this installer still exists in one of your subfolders of the c:\Windows folder, added there for a later install or uninstall of programme features. Search for it there!

I only had to click on the button "Purge all cashes" and, after updating all filter lists, the BPCF filter list was updated, too. The BPCF website does not work in New Moon 28, either, but fortunately in Thorium.

Inductive conclusion and generalisation of my empirically acquired data regarding sudden Thorium (Chrome) browser crashes: After all the measures, investigations and my proof, I described in detail in previous posts, I have come to the conclusion that spontaneous, recurring crashes of Chrome browsers, as, for example, Thorium, can be caused first and foremost by drivers or driver corpses, but also by services or programmes, running in the background responsible for interference, among other things like hardware defects and so on, of course. The so-called filter drivers deserve special mention at this point. Many of the Chrome browser crashes that have been numerously reported in different Internet forums, are probably due to this. But without a thorough investigation, such issues can't be clarified, and their real cause was therefore very often never discovered. So, my advice at this point. If such crashes happen, check first the Windows\System32\drivers folder for drivers or driver remnants that could be the causer (in most cases rather drivers from third-party providers), even if they are loaded correctly and do not produce any error messages! Problematic drivers can of course be loaded from other locations than the Windows\System32\drivers folder, too, especially when it comes to third-party drivers, all depending on the respective system, of course.

I have just noticed that the update of the BPCF userscripts seem to be done automatically by the developer. You will only notice that if the userscript manager has been configured to update them automatically, too. If so, user actions are not really necessary.

If you are additionally using the Bypass Paywalls Clean filter usersrcipts, don't forget to also update them in your userscript manager!

Yes, of course. These themes you linked to have never been compatible with Mypal 68.x but with the old Mypal 29.x. You have to look for themes compatible with Firefox 68.x (Firefox Quantum), for example, here: https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/themes/ But do not expect to find complete themes as it was the case in the legacy browsers! They are almost gone. Only light ones are still available. Regarding your issue, you seem to mix up legacy browsers like Pale Moon, New Moon and Mypal 29 with Quantum based browsers like Firefox 68 or Mypal 68. And of course, you will also find information in many other threads here on MSFN and everywhere else in the WWW. Search for Firefox Quantum themes!

As you may have seen in the Thorium thread regarding my issue with sudden crashes, finding the cause of an issue can lead to an odyssey. But maybe, you try a clean unistall and then a reinstall of the Comodo Firewall. In some cases, it really helps. And don't forget to backup your firewall settings first!

You said all started to glitch out with Thorium. Did you install Thorium by the install.cmd file or did you just unpack the archive? And what about the "NotoEmoji Regular Segoe UI emoji" font? Did you also install it?

Correct! You can even block external fonts via the dashboard settings page of uBO or via the content settings page of the browser but in these cases, for all websites. Here is your website called up in New Moon 28 when blocking the external font via uBlock Origin Legacy:

Which Comodo Firewall version does your snapshot refer to? Maybe, it is a font size problem or related to the used theme which seems to be a dark one. I would check all relevant system and programme settings.

Never used this version. So, I can't say anything about it. Seriously? Personally, I can't see any privacy concerns in providing the version of a defective programme. When reporting an issue, the name and the affected version is a matter of course, so to speak.

@Dave-H When you open the original, unmodified loader in Resource Hacker 5.1.8, you will see that its content is listed in italics. This is a sign that you only have restricted access which occurrs if, for example, the file is UPX-compressed. BTW, there is a tool that can process the file immediately under Windows XP without a prior, separate decompression by the user. The tool is called Resource Tuner, but it is a commercial programme. But TBH, Resource Hacker 5.1.8 in combination with the UPX tool is totally sufficient.

However, this tool cannot be blamed for the fact that its results are not visible when you use 16-bit programmes that cause interference.

You can also do it with the UPX tool under Windows XP. The UPX tool can compress (different levels) and decompress, of course.
