  1. The reason you hack the uxtheme.dll is so that you can use themes that aren't supported by Microsoft, meaning themes that are worth installing Personally I don't use the themes often, but I do like the idea of being able to when I want without having another application needed. The reason people put so much effort into all of this, and make it so you can use these styles is that they want them automatically installed when they setup their computer, the y want it built into their unattended install. StyleXP is a cool program, but it costs money and all it does is modify the UXTHEME file just as we would (correct me if I'm wrong), and they make a nice GUI program for it , which is nice, but not what many of us want.
  2. Personally I like the numbers, it forms a great system, so I know EXACTLY what items are grouped together. With indentations, occasionally when you open them with different text editos (or sometimes the same ones) you can get errors and tabs and such are removed. Yeah, changing numbers can be a pain, but its not too big of a deal.
  3. Also, if you run the WIHU program with the /? after it: WIHU /? you can see all the other commands it allows.
  4. go here: Sticky: What is WIHU? basic information for newbies
  5. You know guys, these things are really easy to program, have to tried to learn? (I'm not trying to sound mean or insulting at all) It's much easier than you'd think, the AUTOIT program comes with a great help guide. The basic things you need to know is WinWaitActive - waits till a window pops up and is active and SEND - sends keystrokes If you know those 2 commands, you can pretty much make a "silent" install for any progam you want! Sometimes it does get a little harder, but for the most part its really easy.
  6. I agree, with Winrar assosciated with RAR files, all you have to do is double click on the files and they'll open, the GUI isn't as nice as Microsoft's, but you still can drag files out of the RARed file and drop them wherever you want, so it isn't too much of a pain.
  7. using modifyPE and makecab won't do anything, the file is already cabbed(?) since its in DL_ format, so that would be useless. My personal guess, and I've said this to many people in my short time on this forum, but my guess is that the blank CD you used is a cheap piece of crap or is scratched up (which shouldn't be the case if you just burned it), and if you were using an RW, try running a full format of the disc and not one of the short 2 min. ones. Have you tried re-burning your disc? Its possible you just had a bad CD in the bunch, it happens all the time. Another possibility is that maybe you burned the CD too fast, some CD-ROM drives have a problem reading discs if they were written at a fast speed. I would try re-burning your unattended disc/normal disc slipstreamed and reburn it with a new disc at 2x. This could fix your problems, or it could not. This has happened to me many times though, and the problem was usually caused by me using crappy media. Hope this helps If not, let us know, there is always someone here to help
  8. You're asking for something pretty customized, and for that I would suggest AUTOIT, it is a programming language that will allow you to install STYLEXP to a certain location, and if you are going to only use your unattended disc on 1 computer, you can even register it if you wish. THis will require a bit of work, but it can be done. AUTOIT is basically a program that emulates mouse clicks and keyboard entry's, therefore allowing you to make the installation do exactly what you want.
  9. Creates a user named TJ thats an administrator with password asdf1234. This is ran in my batch file. net user TJ asdf1234 /add net localgroup Administrators TJ /add net accounts /maxpwage:unlimited Hope this helps, i don't know what you mean by profile paths.
  10. Did you do a full format on the DVD-RW? I have had major problems when i forgot to do a full level format on the DVD blank, even when its brand new. Also, if you are using VMWare, why not just use the image created and test with that, instead of going through the trouble with a RW? It seems like a bit more work to burn it each time when you could just use the image.
  11. This is an excellent program! Much better (and easier) than the others I have seen out there. This is simple (in looks not functions) and it accomplishes the job which is exactly what i wanted out of a post-install progam. A+ job!
  12. Well, I've created it, and it works just fine. Here ya go: NOTE: This does NOT install DVDXRESCUE because i simply don't like the program, if you want to make it install XRESCUE, modify the script as you see fit. Here is how I call this file via command prompt, and DVDX_CRACK is a SFX archive that contains the exe files so you don't have to manually register the progam. ECHO. ECHO Installing DVD XCopy 4.0.3 ECHO Please wait... start /wait %systemdrive%\install\DVDXCOPY\step1.exe start /wait %systemdrive%\install\DVDXCOPY\DVDX_Crack.exe /s step1.au3
  13. Did you hack your EXPLORER file? Basically thats what controlls your start menu. If you hacked that, and you messed up, Windows won't do a full logon. If you did what I did and left the original EXPLORER file alone, and told XP to use a new program EXPLORER2 instead, you can partially log on (it'll give you an error) and then CTRL+ALT+DELETE and start a new task, then run regedit, and change the default back to the normal EXPLORER file. This only applies if you hacked this file, but it sounds like what happened to me. Hopefully this will help.
  14. Instead of sending so many tabs and stuff you could always send a mouse click. ControlClick("TITLE","&NEXT",BUTTON2") it would make the code look a little nicer. I don't have, or know anything about tweakXP, so i can't help too much, until I get home to download the program and try it out. EDIT: I'd really like to help you with this program, but its not a program that offers any interest to me at all. If you can do any AUTOIT scripting at all, it shouldn't be too hard though.
  15. If 'D' refers to the CDROM drive, you could also have placed SPECIALDRIVERS into the $1 directory on the Unattended disc, then it would be copied during installation.
  16. The only way I've found is to make an AutoIT script. I'd give you mine, but it don't work properly yet
  17. I would have to agree, SP2 will save you a lot of grief. Just the IE Add-on manager alone is worth the upgrade! Slipstreaming it into the disc makes it MUCH more efficient than merely installing it afterwards. It also makes the system stable (well as stable as a MS OS can get). If you need more space, just delete the I386\LANG folder (worked fine for me anyways) and that'll save you ~100MB.
  18. Personally, I would suggest just setting it up the way you want it in Windows, and then save your theme, andthen just assign that theme as the default by using: [Shell] CustomDefaultThemeFile="%Systemroot%\Resources\Themes\default.theme" and that'll set it up exactly the way you want it!
  19. I wasn't interested enough to actually go looking, or to ask the question by itself, but tacking the question on to what I was already saying only took about 5 seconds and was worth asking. I was just trying to post everything I had found out. You can set up a silent install, but only each parts individually (at least thats what I found its more than possible that it exists, but i'm too stupid to find it).
  20. I downloaded it via BitTorrent and it seems to be packed differently. The normal switch needs to be modified. When you double click the EXE, it uncompresses it (like normal) and then launches a setup wizard which asks you what you want to install. The normal start /wait %systemdrive%\install\Nero\nero66.exe /SILENT /NOREBOOT /SN=XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX /WRITE_SNcode doesn't seem to understand. I managed to get just the normal setup to install by finding the nero folder in %temp% and going to the "nero 6" folder and running the normal code that can be seen above. I don't even know what NeroVision Express is, so i don't know if its even worth installing. What's it do?
  21. Like he said, its not "officially" out yet. It is out on various web sites though.
  22. Awesome! I personally prefer this method since it will most likely stay the same reguardless of upgrades to Firefox (even if some of the extentions no longer will work, the method can stay the same)
  23. I was also curious, this method: for %%i in *.xpi do "%PROGRAMFILES%\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -install-global-extension "%DVDROM%\Applications\Firefox\xpi\%%i.xpi" will it install all the extentions in the XPI folder? I don't have much experience with programming in DOS and using variables, but I have experience in C++. It seems that the FOR loop cycles through everything in the XPI folder that has *.xpi, and then calls the install global extention, and proceeds to install it. Is this correct? Before I go and try something other than my AUTOIT script which works, but takes a while, I would like to make sure that I understand what this command is doing.
  24. I have had experience with NOLOGIC before. We worked together to create an AUTOIT script that would install extentions and plugins and such. When I say we worked together, I mean I created an initial script, then he disasembled it and created a script 10 thousand times better than the original I had created. In the script he made he actually shared credit with me which I thought was really cool since I hadn't really done too much. The reason he may not like the way things are done in the command line as suggested here is that his script COMPLETELY customizes the installation to be the exact way that he wants it, which just can't be done in the command line. Personally I do not have nearly as many customizations as he does, so I may consider giving this method a try.
  25. A couple versions of Linux include a TETRIS game while you install. I personally found this to be a great way to pass the time.
