  1. As far as I understand it, they are still making Service Packs for Win2000, so its not an impossibility for there to be another service pack after Longhorn comes out.
  2. It really doesn't matter who owns the program. Its still free (mostly), and you aren't forced to upgrade. I like WinAmp cause it makes playlists that my portable MP3 player can use.
  3. Firefox 1.01 now includes a silent command (-ms) Firefox.exe -ms Simon's Unattended Firefox
  4. You can try a program such as Go2PDF, this will allow anything you print to be transferred into a PDF file. I used this program in the past, I beleive that only problem with it is it inserts an ad for itself at the bottom of the PDF page. I know there are plenty of other programs like this, maybe others will start posting their favorites. Hope this is what you were looking for.
  5. I'm pretty sure BartPE has some form of antivirus software plugins you can use. I think that would probably be a much better idea than using a WIN98 CD like that. The reason I say this is because (this is all assuming you are not using the same computer that the CD image was created from) every time you load the 98CD, it'll have to detect all the new hardware.
  6. You can use a program like WPI (Windows Post Installer), or my personal favorite WIHU (Windows Installation Helper Utility). You would set up your unattended disc to call WIHU (or whatever program you choose) in GUIRUNONCE. No matter what program you use, what you basically do is tell it how to install all the files (what switches to you), and it allows the user to check the boxes of the software that is wanted. You are still doing most the work with these programs, its not like nLite where the program does all the work for you. Good luck!
  7. If your copy of Windows isn't legit, don't use SP2. Also, if your XP is competely up-to-date (critical updates and hotfixes), you might not want to (just because that is the main thing that SP2 is for).
  8. Another point, there are very few virus's that effect BOTH Windows and Linux. That is why a Linux boot disc is a good choice if he beleives that his Windows computer has virus's on it.
  9. If you want a TRUE integration, use RyanVM's update pack, but be warned it is an unofficial pack. When you use the /integrate, you might not be actually integrating, but you are doing what MS intended you to do. With that said, I know people who roll it out on over 200 machines and it runs great on all of em, so, RyanVM does good work. RyanVM's Site
  10. I voted no, but with this to say: MUSIC: CD's are too expensive and the downloading (legal) is crap. I refuse to pay essentially the same amount for a CD (albeit a custom legal CD) that I would for a full CD I bought from the store that comes with the CD, the CD case, the CD jacker and the backing in the CD case. That's just my take on it. SOFTWARE: Any software I really like and use a lot I pay for. Its as simple as that. MOVIES (THEATER): I have downloaded movies, and 9/10 times if the movie is good I will actually pay to see it in theaters. MOVIES (DVD): DVD's are expensive, for no reason. I do NOT care about all the extras they put onto a DVD (I do like the subs, but thats it), and I don't like that they charge more for a DVD than a VHS when the media for a VHS costs more. If I really like the movie I will pay for it. Or I will have my copies and wait for the monster box sets to come out (SPIDER-MAN, SPIDER-MAN2, same with XMEN series and STAR-WARS). My take on it is if you really like what you hear, see, or use then buy it.
  11. I might be mistaken, but I beleive that WindowsXP will automatically check your floppy disc to see if there is a WINNT.SIF file on it. If you just throw the WINNT.SIF file you created onto a floppy, he can just pop the floppy in, and use the unattended disc w/o a problem!
  12. Um.... You could put the WINNT.SIF on a floppy disk
  13. You can also set up a multi-boot CD, that way you'll have a different WINNT.sif file for each "boot section" that you have. This is what I do. I then have WINNT.SIF call different .INF files for WIHU, and it'll install everything to my exact specifications for each computer.
  14. Make it install from CD, especially if you use a software selector like WPI. Having everything copied to the HD AND using a software selector is kinda pointless IMHO.
  15. There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those that know binary and those that don't. EDIT: 4 AND 1 = 0 4 PLUS(+) 1 = 5 Be careful not to use words like AND, NOT, OR (XOR, XNOR, and others aren't likely to be used unintentionally) when talking about binary, UNLESS you are using them correctly.
  16. Try \\net use z: <computername>\<sharename> /USER:<USERNAME> <PASSWORD> That could possibly solve your problem of connecting to the shared drive. I don't know what D/NET means. I have done this many times in the past, and it always went off without a hitch for me. Here's an idea, do you know of anyone who has a copy of Windows 3.1 on floppy? You could install the OS and try connecting to the share from there (I have no experience with 3.1 so I don't know if this is easier or harder than the DOS method) and install WIN98 from 3.1
  17. You could do something like if %computername%==MINE and then have it point to your MY DOCUMENTS directory, and do the same kind of thing for your wife's (that is if you have a set name you create for your installation and a different name you make for your wife's. I personally use a multiboot system and have my installation and have another for my girlfriend. It allows me to install everything I want on my computer and the stuff she wants (including custom computer names for each and themes, etc...)
  18. He said he beleives that its the same process. I stated that it IS the same. Lost Soul posted the same as me about 2 min. later which means he didn't see my post and was trying to do exactly what I did, CONFIRM things. And that, is why we repeat things
  19. Yeah, but where's the coolness of "hacking" the WinRar installation, using WinRar!? BTW how much smaller did the 7zip make it?
  20. I don't know anything about the RunOnceEX way of doing things, but I do know that if you want people to help you, you need to show them what you are doing! Post everything relating to what you are trying to do, and make sure you tell us what they are (RunOnce.bat for example) and that you surround the code in QUOTE tags. After you do that, people will be more than willing to try and help you.
  21. Things are exactly the same with a DVD as with a CD. Except the massive amount of space you now have
  22. You can also try AUTOIT and make a simple script that will wait for the error to pop up and just click cancel for you. You also have the option of replacing NOTEPAD.EX_ in your I386 directory. Just MODIFYPE the file, and then MAKECAB it (and rename it to notepad)
  23. @xper Sorry about breaking the rules. @Rico.JohnnY Thanks! I'll test those out right away.
  24. I have searched for these tweaks, but cannot find them anywhere. I need to have the MY COMPUTER and MY DOCUMENTS icons shown by default on the desktop (when using new start menu). I would also like to move MY DOCUMENTS to another drive (D:\My Documents). I know I have seen this before, but I could not find it when searching for it. Any help would be appreciated, and remember I DID search, but couldn't find the answers!
