[How-to] Run app with admin rights while a Limited User
DigeratiPrime replied to DigeratiPrime's topic in Windows XP
awesome job LLXX, sorry i forgot to check the thread the other day. I'll put a warning in the top post. -
This guide will show you how to setup and use Winpooch to act as a firewall and block everything from the internet except those programs we want to allow, I will use Firefox as an example. Winpooch is Free and OpenSource and is a very small and portable application. You can learn more about Winpooch and download it at these links: http://winpooch.free.fr/ http://sourceforge.net/projects/winpooch/ Instructions: Start by closing any programs that are actively connecting and/or downloading from the internet. Open Winpooch and you will see these included in the default set of filters: Delete all of these except those except those with the '*' for both Param1 and Param2, those we are going to modify. It should now look like this: Double click on each one and change the Reaction to Ask/Reject and the Verbosity to Log. If you read and followed these instructions you should have this: Now when a program tries to access the internet you will get a popup asking for permission, if you are AFK after 30 seconds it will automatically reject, and will log that request in the History window. Now Lets add a Rule to allow Firefox to connect. In the Filter window click on the '+' button near the top-right and either navigate to the program or select it from the hooked processes list. That will add Firefox to the program list but you need to create rule(s) for it still. So click on the '+' button below to add a rule. That It! I created this guide because alot of the software firewalls are complicated to configure, eat ram, are expensive, and sometimes just dont work!

Why is EVERY SINGLE software firewall a load of crap?
DigeratiPrime replied to iCEhOT's topic in Networks and the Internet
Winpooch http://winpooch.free.fr/home/index.php 1) remove default filters that allow anything to connect to internet 2) add custom filter that says block everything from connecting to internet 3) add filter that says let firefox connect to any address on ports 80 and 443. [EDIT] I went ahead and posted a guide here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=68523 -

Personal Firewall configuration w/o user interaction
DigeratiPrime replied to muchlux's topic in Networks and the Internet
with zonealarm you can just turn slide 'program control' to off. -
i use portable filezilla http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/ftp/portable_filezilla
-
actually i think this is a smart idea. i could really simplify administration too. # No software to install, license, and maintain # No maintenance or software assurance fees # The latest updates to PerfectDisk - automatically

OMG..... btw whats with the cheap mouse and keyboard? -
Its another lame ea product. I would buy Red Alert if they fixed the graphics and added support for 1280x1024 resolution.

i dont know, I still believe this is safe. Nothing will give you absolute security. Here is a test. I will attatch a compiled exe made from the following script: if this is so easy to reverse, please 'reveal' the true values where the 'x' are. I have not done anything else to the exe its made using the defaults in Aut2Exe. RunAs.zip -
Acronis True Image better than Norton Ghost imho.

DigeratiPrime replied to Bâshrat the Sneaky's topic in The General Stuff
ah i dont know why i posted that under Graphics pack B but its working great -
Acronis True Image is much better than Norton Ghost (imo). As for freeware i only know of this: Dubaron DiskImage http://www.dubaron.com/diskimage/

say what you want i just want to reccomend a program ive been using for a while: XMPlay. I never liked winamp but i understand some people use it for the plugins etc. The good news is most/all winamp plugins work the same with XMPlay. XMPlay is also efficient like winamp 2 but you can skin it like winamp 5. Its only 253kb, saves its settings in an ini file in the appdata folder and therefore is also portable. I posted some screenshot of it here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?s=&sho...ndpost&p=438521 Also I would just like to hear why people would still prefer to use winamp when other software like XMPlay, Foobar, and Muzicube are out there?

Media Player Classic

how exactly are you unpacking this installer? Universal Extractor does not work with this type. but its not a concern really because they have the slim builds.
-
ty i did not notice that. now using "CCleaner v1.27.260 - Slim" i agree with this.
