  2. according to dhedges here http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=71138 he tried a couple versions of wow32.dll before he got it working with ver. 4.0.0.950. I guess I got lucky and picked the right (same) version the first time I will attatch it since its small, please reply if it helps. WOW32.rar
  3. just a thought, try MPUI. Its a frontend for MPlayer, which is compiled as a single binary and uses no external codecs. see link in sig.
  4. it does need more skins, but i have looked around for inspiration to make one, but i havent found one i like better than the iXMPlay skin. screenshot of ixmplay
  5. hmm im not sure this would help but you may be interested anyway: you can disable the install of the CCC by editing BTS_DPs_finish.cmd in "\$OEM$\$1\D" as follows: REM #################################### REM DriverPack Graphics A REM #################################### SET C=%DPS%\G\ REM ######################## REM IF NOT EXIST %C%A\1 GOTO DPGA2 REM IF EXIST %S%atioglx1.dll ( REM %C%A\1\ATICCC.exe -y -o%DPS_TMP% REM MSIEXEC /i %DPS_TMP%\ISScript9.Msi /qn /norestart REM MSIEXEC /i %DPS_TMP%\ATICCC.msi /qn /norestart REM RD /S /Q %DPS_TMP% REM ) :DPGA2
  6. ok i understand your point, and i mostly agree with you. As for partitioning i have setup winnt.sif before to put systemdrive on C program files on D and Documents and Settings on E. I went back to the default with everything on C, and then I install certain apps to D and use TweakUI to move special folder like 'My Documents' to the D partition. I moved to this method once i started using AcronisTI. What do you do different? By the way I found another software thats alot like O&O but it doesnt touch the system folders and its much lighter (1.5mb in %PF% and the service uses around 500kb ram). Seems to work just as good too. http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/mst_D...me/1097087166/1
  7. @teqguy what do you mean by "Windows does not differentiate between defragmentation tools"? Can you try to explain that better, sorry I am not understanding your point. From what i read Contig defrags files on an individual basis, unlike a 'disk defrager', it does not 'intelligently sort' files on the disk.
  8. the Apotheosis Staff is way to powerful. I was playing with a friend and we defeated everyone in the Arena (except 1 wizard guy) with it using usually 1 or 2 hits. The champion only took 4 hits from the thing. The cool thing is they usually go flying back like 5 feet when you hit em with it!
  9. I am not really a big fan of the metaphors and analogies with food. @Jeremy I dont think anyone is trying to shove anything down anyones throat. Lets not stifle discussion. As for having 0 fragments after a defrag, thats not exclusive to PD, I know O&O always fully defrags - i dont see anything special here. Everyone has a right to their own opinion. One thing i don't see is any technical information from an objective source about the relative effectiveness of these programs. btw I want to thank teqguy for informing me about Config. I use other sysinternals apps, i overlooked that one. @oOTNTOo heres link to download a 30 day trial of both. they are the same price btw. PerfectDisk http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Perfe...sk/1019208780/1 O&O http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/OO_De...nal/995525249/2
  10. I am sorry I do not understand. Your saying X or Y applications cannot be more effective than Windows Defragmenter? I forgot to mention before that i also remove that with nLite.
  11. please i know better than to use norton, that was insulting, ive been warning people about that poor software for (about 5-6) years. Use ClamWin, Nod32, or BitDefender. In fact i use no antivirus, because i dont get viruses To be honest, on my pc i have no programs installed except some hardware drivers and winrar, seriously. i only occasionally defrag, prob every other month, and its never that bad anyway because i use extended partitions and store most of my stuff on a dedicated fileserver here. I usually roll back my 'system partition' (C:) around the same time using Acronis True Image (which takes less than 2 minutes) thus effectively uninstalling O&O or whatever else. So installing O&O for like an hour and then 'undoing' it, doesnt bother me the least. I would not use O&O if i did not believe it does a better job than Config and PD. I like the defrag options: Name for my system partition, and Space for my 'bloated' data and program partitions. I would need to hear evidence contrary that proves that O&O is less or equally effective, before i drop it.
  12. i tested on my pc: AMD64 3200 Venice Radeon 9800 PRO (128MB) 1GB DDR400 ran fine and never really lagged at 1280x1024 with no AA, bloom off, and all distant draws on. And i did run through the forests on the horse helping brother martin, so im not just judging from the games begining.
  13. well as i said above i use O&O but i have tried PD7. I 'unpacked' the msi's for both using uniextract so i can better see whats being installed and where. imo they're both light enough for me and a mb or two doesnt matter much. I think the argument about the program having to defrag itself is silly in this respect. The same is true for speed, i havent seen any objective tests, and all ive heard is users complaining about differences in the ms, which is probably just user perception until proven otherwise. I tried contig and the frontend for it and its a good free solution, but these other programs are easier to use, have more options, and a nice UI. However I would agree that i dislike the dependancies and need to install drivers and run as a service. but the nice thing about MSI's is they uninstall very well
  14. turbocash looks like your beet bet, you can use a download manager to pause/resume downloads. heres a list though: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Accounting_software http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of...unting_software
  15. my isp is optimum online, i dont think its them:
  16. wait your reading pdf on perfectdisks website and concluding its the best? thats a surprise PD is very good, however I think O&O does a better job. thats my humble opinion.
  17. perhaps in this registry key? [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{EFB21DE7-8C19-4A88-BB28-A766E16493BC}]
  18. i spent a minute on google and found this: http://discuss.develop.com/archives/wa.exe...D=0&T=0&P=73467 please try this install on a another or 'clean' computer. the problem may be related to a previous .NET or VS install, so you may want to check that out too. Maybe uninstall/reinstall. It sounds like the install medium is fine, and the problem is your computer. Please verify this before asking for files for commercial software, which we do not condone, your post has been edited accordingly
  19. For starters...it's now on by default now. You also don't have to turn it off anymore just to do a screenshot. ty thats excellent news! i never use the 'function keys' except PrtScn, which as you claim will now not be necessary. Thats the next thing I am upgrading on my computer then
  20. thats a good one
  21. acronis disk director can indeed create a boot disc that does this, in fact the boot disc can do pretty much everything the installed program can. I highly reccomend the bootdisc With TrueImage (another software i like) you can also create the 'startup recovery manager' which adds a boot option (F11) so you can even do without the cd.
  22. much better, the other flags look terrible now i still dislike the header font, its too antique.
  23. thats good to hear. the home/end/pgup/pgdn/del keys are annoying on this keyboard. how exactly is the function key different on the new version? it is indeed annoying
