  1. Compare Bing to Google (from TechCrunch) http://www.blackdog.ie/google-bing/search.php
  2. What service packs do you have installed on XP and Vista? What OS is running on the embedded device? You intially said that the packets arrive late, that would implicate the source or network. What is the speed of the link? Perhaps you are trying to push a gigabit of traffic over a fast ethernet link? Maybe you get less errors with the CPU loaded because you are receiving less packets? Prime95 will only load 1 core per instance. Are the laptops plugged in or running on battery?
  3. Just in case I misunderstand you: Firefox does not open or read Word documents, it will download them and then launch Word. What version of Firefox are you using? On the menubar select Help then About. Also are any Extensions installed?
  4. Lock nmap on that IP address full port and service sweep make it so. Also was going to suggest looking into the MAC Vendor ID, I recently did that to identify a cell phone on a wireless network. Another thing I've seen people do is arp spoofing, not a fan of it though... This is why I like 802.1x
  5. Well I don't want to just erase free space, I wanted to erase the whole disk. Nothing really sensitive on it, just doing an RMA for a Samsung drive making clicking sounds (calibration errors I've heard). I just used the Disk Management snap-in to do a full format, then opened the disk with HxD (freeware) and zeroed out the remaing sectors manually. Thing is I didn't want to use HxD to do the whole disk since it would be a copy/paste nightmare. http://mh-nexus.de/en/hxd/
  6. Just a simple zero fill will do Active@ Kill Disk does not work, I run it as admin and tried XP compatibility but it gets an access violation error, not sure yet if this is UAC...
  7. It depends on what they use the ipod for. IIRC the services are used for Network Discovery (sharing libaries) and Automatic Updates. iTunes is a very large program.
  8. I think this is actually a good name. It's only one syllable, rhymes with ping (active sonar) and ding (it's done), and it almost spells bingo! I look forward to trying it
  9. There are IE shells like Avant, Maxthon, GreenBrowser, and AOL Explorer that have tabs. I reccomend and use IE8.
  10. I gotta rain on the parade, 7zip has had 64-bit support for some time now and it's free; although the shell extension is problematic.
  11. Remote Desktop is included with Windows. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsXp/using/m...emoteintro.mspx http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/e...cc61e61033.mspx
  12. I just read your post and what you said is very true and well written. Unfortunately a lot of people still make purchasing decisions based on the packaging and not reputation.
  13. Considering your example: Export CSV From Excel and Import CSV To Quickbooks? About importing an Excel or .csv file into QuickBooks http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/Suppo...o_msimport.html Tools for importing Excel and CSV files http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/suppo...Article/1005472
  14. BTW there is freeware that can do this http://www.pdfforge.org/products/pdfcreator http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfmerge/ http://www.primopdf.com/primopdf_free_idx.htm
  15. What type of webcam? Integrated or USB? Does the Webcam appear in Device Manager when Skype cannot find it? Registry Cleaning is a dangerous hobby
  16. I feel the same as CoffeeFiend; optical media just doesn't have the capacity and speed to keep up with HDD. If you need reliability, there is RAID 1/5/6/10. Also convenience: I can setup automatic backups, something difficult to do with removable storage; it can also be sent across a network to an offsite secure location with ease. As for the random read performance of SSD, just get more RAM for now
  17. I would like to disable what you see in the screenshot below, but I cannot find any registry key or GPO to do so. The "Information Bar" pops up every time this window is opened and is rather annoying as it shifts all the contents down. I have Network Discovery enabled, but do not want File Sharing enabled. Any ideas? Using Windows 7 RC...
  18. I am having this problem now with VMware Workstation 6.5.2 Shuttle SP35P2, Intel E8400, Windows 7 x64 RC, BIOS SP35S20E. [EDIT] Fixed it, somehow it was disabled in the BIOS...
  19. See if you have a sysdm.cpl file in system32
  20. I recommend inSSIDer (free) http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider Check if other access points overlap yours. Check if the Signal Strength is low, a dBm closer to 0 is better. Watch if the signal is dropping or switching speeds.
  21. I am not surprised, I've heard from people working from OEM's about these rebates; seems to be a common practice. Also the EU seems to like going after big *US* companies *cough* because it's easy money. With that said I am not familiar with the details, but bribery is a criminal offense.
  22. nice and simple regsvr32 commands Why not just post the script in tags though?
  23. Thanks gamehead200 I will be taking advantage of this offer while I still can!
  24. What games are you anticipating in the near future? My list Cities XL Deux Ex 3 StarCraft 2
  25. Added Video DownloadHelper again https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3006
