  1. RSAT for Windows 7 has been finalized and are availible here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en Filename and size for each architecture: amd64fre_GRMRSATX_MSU.msu 222.1 MB x86fre_GRMRSAT_MSU.msu 215.1 MB It was previously availible for Windows 7 RC as: Windows6.1-KB958830-x64.msu 42.8 MB Windows6.1-KB958830-x86.msu 35.9 MB I am not sure why the final version are so much larger.
  2. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/08/14/critical_linux_bug/ time to patch the kernels
  3. "magic data transfer' sounds like some form of malware, unless the Rollback RX software had an error and created a corrupted boot entry. I would try installing Rollback RX in a VirtualBox guest running a clean install of XP Pro SP3 to see if the problem could be replicated.
  4. I use DD-WRT on my home gateway and recomend it. I did see a wireless issue on a WRT54GL in the past, verified using InSSIDer on a client, but that was many builds ago. Right now everyone should be checking their forum and using the 'SP2' pre releases. Tomato has nicer graphs, but is missing many features in comparison and isn't updated as frequently.
  5. What format is the image file? IIRC, ISO images don't support compression but does support 'duplicate' files, WIM images supports 'duplicate' files and compression.
  6. This continues to not make sense, I added a child with a legacy network adapter on the same external virtual network as the WDS server and it PXE boots fast. So virtual machines are still booting fast and real nics still slow, seemingly regardless of the topology.
  7. Maybe Ant Movie Catalog (freeware)? http://www.antp.be/software/moviecatalog/ There might be some free extensions for Windows Media Center too, not sure though.
  8. I think the files are just preview thumbnails and not the full photos which actually take up space. However you should be able to remove the thumbnails since the media they are stored on was removed. Unfortunately it seems Microsoft Digital Imaging Suite was discontinued http://www.microsoft.com/products/imaging/default.mspx As long as you have XP SP2 or later you can install its free sucessor Windows Live Photo Gallery http://www.windowslive.com/Desktop/PhotoGallery
  9. Greets What is the service pack level of these machines? Is this a wired or wireless network and what is the link speed? Anything you think we should know about the hard drives in these machines?
  10. BTW I also ran into a problem where the toolbar was dissapearing and stopped it by unchecking "Allow documents to hide the menu bar, toolbars, and window controls" in Preferences
  11. Why are you refering to that old topic and not the current pinned one? http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=129473 I think defraging is overrated, but it still has its purposes.
  12. Did a clean install of R2 7600 for the parent and child partitions, same behavior. I'll try setting up R2 7600 as a VMware guest to see if the Client deployment is still slow.
  13. There are many possible causes here. First XP and Vista bootstrap differently, XP used NTLDR with boot.ini, Vista uses BOOTMGR with BCD. Windows 7 goes further and creates a seperate active system partition for the boot files. MBR based disks can only have 4 Primary partitions which are bootable, the rest must be in an extended partition. There are pirated versions of Vista that have 'corrupted' boot files. I know if you install XP on a clean disk followed by Vista or 7 on another partition you will be able to dual boot without any extra work.
  14. When it freezes does the screen still animate and is the mouse cursor still moveable? IIRC alot of things happen at the "Installing Network" stage in XP setup. Also there might be a setup log you can access by mounting the drive in a working OS. IMO its probably a driver issue, can you find out what the model for the motherboard and other components are? Note this topic will be moved to either the XP or Hardare forum soon.
  15. Adobe Reader or Acrobat? Try right-clickcing on the toolbar to edit the buttons.
  16. It sounds like the photos are not actually on your computer. Where do you actually see the images, in windows explorer or some other program?
  17. I am using R2 for parent and child partitions, parent is RC 7100, child's RTM 7600. The parent has it's own physical adapter, child uses an external network adapter which is not shared with the mangement operating system. Here is a screenshot of the problem, notice the time offset: What's interesting is the packets themselves appear identical between clients that have and do not have the problem. Also this only starts happening when Boot.SDI is being sent. I restarted the WDS server but it's the same. Also I could post a CAP file if desired.
  18. An 'application error' usually indicates missing visual studio runtimes. Fortunately you can download them and they will install on Windows 2000 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en
  19. I am getting slow TFTP transfers from WDS to physical NICs, but not to virtual NICs. I've checked with a managed switch and the port link is 1000FDX when this is happening, a Netmon capture shows that WDS is sending empty and duplicate packets and taking a long time to receive packets from the client. This happens with 3 different physical machines with nvidia, yukon, and intel adapters, but not with vmware pxe boot on the same clients. WDS is running on Server 2008 R2 build 7600 child partition, parent is Server 2008 R2 RC (7100) still. In the trace below I copied the Boot folder from the REMINST share to the parent partition and a Win7 client on LAN, and later tried to PXE boot the same client.
  20. I actually replaced a NOD32 install with MSE Only complaint is the GUI doesn't adjust well to DPI scaling.
  21. Wow this is a surprise! Looks like they are finally responding to the competition Just tested it and as you said it only does 2 things, funny thing is ImgBurn does more such as burning/creating image files and audio cds. This will be good if people want Nero but don't want to pay for it, otherwise I would still reccomend CDBurnerXP.
  22. Well I wanted to write back on how things have turned out. I did receive the UPS on Tuesday the 28th but I had some strange problem with it. I connected the battery and mains so it started charging, it seemed fine so I went out. I came home about 3 hours later and it was dead, not sure why... I called and they overnighted me a replacement and it's working fine thus far I connected it to a Windows 7 x64 RC (7100) PC via USB and it was recognized immediately: it appears in the system tray like a laptop battery and in the device stage. Installing PCBE Single Node Agent lets you access its Status, Logs, and Configuration though a web interface using Java. I will be trying it on my server over the next few days. [EDIT] Screenshot showing 36 minutes of battery backup
  23. Apparently a couple days after the last post here, Intel added drivers with official support for Windows 7 RC1 x86 and x64, interesting Server 2008 R2 is not 'supported' yet. Note: The actual setup file is the same for both and contains drivers for both architectures. x86 http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_res...mp;submit=Go%21 x64 http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_res...mp;submit=Go%21 readme http://downloadmirror.intel.com/17882/eng/readme.txt release notes http://downloadmirror.intel.com/17882/eng/releasenotes.htm
  24. thanks for sharing, this type of software is convenient for people not familiar with local group policy
