  1. I feel Noah. Yes, the one with the Ark. I've always stuck by Intel for a reason. Performance has fluctuated over the years, granted, but Intel CPUs have ALWAYS been stable. Sometimes they've fallen behind but they always come fighting back and stronger too. Yes, they've had their share of problems (floating point anyone? deep pipeline combined with low speed first generation pentium fours?) but the problems associated with Intel have always been few and far between. AMD's had some pretty serious issues of their own. The performance for Intel has always been rock solid. AMD's been all over the place. The Intel / AMD war will rage on as it always has for the rest of time. Some are hardcore AMD fanboys, some are hardcore Intel fanboys (such as myself). I've seen so many dead CPUs go through my hands which were AMD (Especially in the Athlon XP series) that I've been skeptical ever since. No to mention that I ran into really bizarre problems that I could only be replicated while running on an AMD system. People have often quoted as price being the main reason to go for AMD. You can buy an Intel motherboard and an Intel CPU (Celeron, for example) for the same price or less then you would from AMD. Perhaps AMD would have faired better IMHO if it had improved it's compatibility between motherboards when new CPUs were released or spent a little more time trying to bring down their heat generation. I guess I just have to try to tone down my Intel fanboyism and try to accept that for some people, AMD suits them better even if I can't see how.
  2. It's hard to move to a new motherboard that supports future technologies if you're unwilling to let go of dead technologies like IDE and PCI.
  3. There's no reason to buy ANY AMD today. Intel is where it's at.
  4. Dual 22" Samsung 226BW Widescreen monitors is what I work with.
  5. Does anyone ever start by taking into consideration that fans are noisy because they're running full speed because they're dusty? Not always the case, but I've seen that more often then not be the case.
  6. Remove the drive from the external enclosure and plug it into your computer directly. If you still can't access the files, use data recovery software on the drive once it's plugged directly into to your computer (Meaning not over USB).
  7. My CPU is a E2140 and I overclock it to 3.2GHz using air. It depends on the cooler you have.
  8. Perhaps the user you were using didn't have network access or it could have been an NTFS issue.
  9. The problem with SLI is that you don't get a 100% performance increase because there's too much overhead. Real world figures show that SLI only provides a 25% - 50% performance increase (sometimes even less) over a single card at twice the price.
  10. I figure that just about anytime you pick up a laptop and forget that it has a USB or Modem or network wire connected to it you might subject it to the type of "trauma" you're talking about. I've checked with dozens and dozens of techs and repair guys and they tell me that they never see damage to those three ports. . . .It's always to the (poorly designed) power connector. YMMV! Considering a mouse, a usb drive, or anything else usually attached to a laptop is a hell of a lot lighter then a typical laptop power pack. Using data ports for cable retention doesn't make any sense. It makes about as much sense as using your CD slot of your car's radio to attach a extra cup holder.
  11. The XP Super Tweaker was a parody utility released for the holiday season last year. It was never actively developed.
  12. It's not the point of whether it's in use or if it's ever used. The point is that the port was never designed for that kind of use and/or abuse.
  13. Make sure the ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib.dll binary is in the same folder as WUD.
  14. I would never buy this product because I value the integrity of my data ports over the integrity of the power supply/connection anyday. IMHO, the USB/RJ11/RJ45 versions are junk. No matter how well it works, fact and case remains, they are in fact data ports and should be reserved for their originally intended purpose. However, if a version based on the security attachment location found on all modern laptops ever was released, THAT I would buy.
  15. These came with frag tape, I stripped it and replaced it with the Arctic Silver Epoxy.PS: Updated the images to KwikPiks.
  16. Take one XFX 8800GTS (92) 512MB video card for $329.99, perform surgery on it, add $39.99 of copper heatsinks attached with $10.99 of silver epoxy, replace the stock heatsink with a huge $29.99 passive heatsink, coated with the best $5.99 tube of thermal paste available on the market today, overclock the GPU by 150MHz, the memory clock by 28MHz and play with a monster. Before Surgery Stripped Cleaned with copper heatsinks attached Top view of the final product Side view of the final product Installed The card sits at 40C during idle and doesn't go higher then 50C during load, passively. And that's overclocked from the stock 650MHz Core / 972MHz Memory (1.94GHz effective) to 800MHz Core / 1000MHz Memory (2.00GHz effective). Average FPS in all the games we could find is above 40FPS at 1920x1200 with all settings at maximum. Our next test is to try to get our hands on Crisis to see what kind of framerates with can get with that. Even recent games like Need For Speed: ProStreet, Doom 3, F.E.A.R., BioShock all ran with high framerates, always with settings on maximum and resolution set to 1920x1200. The final product is sick. I hand picked and modded the card myself for a friend of mine who wanted to play recent games on his 24" widescreen monitor. If anyone wants a hand modified card for their system, PM me and I'll be happy to hand-build you a custom modded video card for your system. You can't buy this kind of performance off the shelf. Oh and modding eats SLI for breakfast.
  17. Google. Wikipedia. Please to be learning. Sampling Rate. CBR. VBR.
  18. That's incorrect, the limit is in fact 4GB.
  19. Make sure after you install a install the ULZ, if WUD is already open, to hit the Refresh button.
  20. Take a look at this post. If you run WUD in it's automated mode, previously downloaded updates will not be re-downloaded unless deleted from the download folder.
  21. I used to be a die-hard Diskeeper fan. I am now a die-hard PerfectDisk fan. I defected.
