  1. You may also be missing the microcode in the BIOS to match your CPU, I'd update your BIOS to the latest revision to see if it helps.
  2. Not to chime in and come off as arrogant but using wattage as a basis for your arguments is a complete waste of time as it doesn't paint a true picture. Wattage is the sum of voltage times amperage and anyone with some basic math skills knows that in a formula such as x * y = z you can have different values for x, y and still equal the same z. To quote one of my replies in a previous thread that discusses this same issue:
  3. The reason to not include all of the updates in the same UL is because Microsoft already does that with the WSUS cabs... and they're enormous and incredibly complex because they cover every possible platform released and all of the updates available since release. The WSUS cabs are also several megs in size and having such downloads associated with WUD would kill it by the enormous quantity of downloads of WUD ULs. As for filtering by date, I can look into that. I'm not quite sure what you mean by "source" the ULs since SP3?
  4. Version 2.30 Beta Build 980 of Windows Updates Downloader was released today! Available for download at http://wud.jcarle.com/ I still haven't figured out how in the world Vista does it's default program associations... if anyone can point me to some technical documentation, I'd love to read it. In this release, a long standing bug has finally been addressed. Now, when a new UL is installed, any open windows of WUD will automatically refresh to show the new ULs. Please let me know if there are any new bugs due to the new code. Thanks for the support and cheers!
  5. I've improved handling of 404 situations in the new build, it will now display the error that the file was not found but will continue the other downloads normally instead of aborting the queue.
  6. Released a bug fix today, build 944. Get it here.
  7. I found the problem, it's been corrected and I've posted the fix. Thanks for reporting this.
  8. What are your operating systems? XP or Vista? 32-bit or 64-bit?
  9. Regarding who makes what power supply, you may want to take a look at : http://www.10stripe.com/articles/who-made-...ower-supply.php If you want to read some really in depth, rip 'em open style, reviews of power supplies, you may also want to read about that here : http://www.jonnyguru.com/
  10. I believe the 226BW has been replaced by the T220 which is also 2ms. : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...amp;Tpk=samsung I used to have 2 x ViewSonic VX series 19"... they were fine but they're nowhere near as good the Samsungs. Dells are hit and miss. Some people love them and have no problems, others have nothing but problems... they're especially prone to high pitch hums/whines from the internal electronics.
  11. NewEgg can be a great and reliable indicator of a product's performance and reliable simply based on the fact that NewEgg serves more customers by themselves then any other independant computer parts retailer in the US (aside from OEMs like Dell). It's plain statistics is what it is.
  12. Version 2.30 Beta Build 939 of Windows Updates Downloader was released this morning! Available for download at http://wud.jcarle.com/ It's not WUD3, but it includes a lot of Vista compatibility fixes and has been recompiled for native 64-bit support. I'd love to get some feedback on the changes and improvements. I believe I only have the file association issue to fix. Everything seems fine but you guys are the ones who will let me know with the wide variety of operating systems and setups that you all have. Thanks for the support and cheers!
  13. Sounds to me like the power supply blew and took the motherboard with it. Though, that's just hypothesis... you'd have to do more testing to find out the real story.
  14. Notice a pattern with Samsung? Enough said. I have two 226BWs on my desk. Love 'em.
  15. Foxconn is one of the oldest manufacturers of motherboards. They make rock-solid reliable motherboards but they're squat for overclocking. If you want a rock-solid overclocking board with more control then you could ever get your head around, get yourself an ASUS P5Q Deluxe, with it's 16-phase VRMs you can work with 0.00625 voltage stepping with the CPU. That's without mentioning the plethora of overclocking options and control you get in the BIOS. Otherwise, most ASUS motherboards are good choices for overclocking. If you're on a budget, the ASUS P5K-E overclocked my previous E2160 to 3.2GHz at it's stock voltage without any problems. Also keep in mind, no motherboard will be able to do the overclocking job you want without having the proper cooling on your CPU and at the moment, there are only two champs : ThermalRight Ultra 120 Extreme and Noctua NH-U12P. I have the Noctua with a 1200RPM Scythe Slip Stream and on idle, it keeps my overclocked E8400 to 20C (even when my motherboard is at 32C).
  16. I wouldn't go as far as saying double. See, it's a tricky thing because when a power supply runs at full load, it loses a lot of efficiency to heat which compounds losing more efficiency to more heat. At light load, it's wasting a lot of electricity just by running, so that's no good either. I'd say the optimal power supply size IN MY OPINION (a lot of people seem to miss that part) would be about 30 % to 40 % over your requirements. So if you calculate you need 400W of power, 520W to 560W of power supply would be just about right.
  17. Try removing the Malicious Code Cleaner from your selection... Microsoft has the habit of changing it's filename every month.
  18. There are two new sets of Update Lists available now for download on the WUD site (http://wud.jcarle.com/). The first set of ULs are Windows XP SP2 Update Lists for those who aren't upgrading to SP3. Please note those ULs include all of the update up until SP3 was released and will no longer be maintained (unless someone else wishes to do so). The second set of ULs are the Windows Vista x86 ULs. A very big thank you goes out to Rj66 for taking the large task of maintaining those lists on a monthly basis. A wonderful job once again! Enjoy everyone!
  19. Sorry, I did maintenance on the server (Windows Updates, Driver Updates, Firmware Updates) and the site didn't come back up... it's fixed now.
  20. There are now two sets of ULs available on the WUD site... there are the Windows XP SP2 ULs which include all the updates after SP2 was released up until SP3 was released, and there are the current ULs which include all of the updates after SP3 was released. Some people do not wish to (or cannot) upgrade to SP3, so they will need to use the Update Lists which include all the updates up until SP3 was released, everyone else who has installed SP3 will use the current update lists.
  21. Windows XP SP2 (Pre-SP3) baseline ULs are now available on the WUD site (http://wud.jcarle.com/).
