  1. Would "Types" work in 8.1? http://izt.name/apps/types/ It does work on 8: http://www.portablefreeware.com/?id=1548 jaclaz
  2. Well it is not very nice of you to suggest that I receive a beta-bugged version . But more seriously (but not much), I am really not the right kind of guy for testing something aimed to Vista (that I never used) or Windows 7 (that I very rarely use) and to Windows 8 (that I only manage to NOT touch with my ex-Vista sticks ): http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/125258-nlite-and-microxp/?p=807225 jaclaz
  3. Yep, we touched the topic here (these are the references missing in the previous post by NoelC): http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/155290-windows-8-deeper-impressions/?p=1084250 jaclaz
  4. You mean that there was a thread here on MSFN.ORG about that Update crashing and that was deleted by one of our Mods/Admins? I haven't noticed it, that's why I was asking. But I see that you are not willing to have a normal conversation with me, have fun in your superiority (though you must be lonely up there ). jaclaz
  5. They may be ridiculous at the light of something completely unrelated , but still I cannot get WHICH thread you were referring to nor WHO are the guys who deleted that. Of course you are perfectly free to not answer those two questions, and leave all of us wondering what (the heck) you were talking about. jaclaz
  6. Which thread? Who are the "you guys"? jaclaz
  7. Well, if it's not conspiracy then there is only another possible explanation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanlon's_razor jaclaz
  8. Well, I guess you are actually asking for it : Here it is : http://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/generic?iso=20140902T00&p0=3322&msg=Nuhi%27s+unnamed+nice+tool&swk=1 jaclaz
  9. Hmmm, I wouldn't be so sure, if you actually read where the actual content is (and not the vague report by PC world): http://www.infoworld.com/t/microsoft-windows/users-find-fix-botched-kb-2982791-and-kb-2970228-windows-update-248476 http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_update/blue-screen-stop-0x50-after-applying-update/6da4d264-02d8-458e-89e2-a78fe68766fd?page=1&tm=1408359736278 http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_update/blue-screen-stop-0x50-after-applying-update/6da4d264-02d8-458e-89e2-a78fe68766fd?page=5 It seems like the affected systems of the actual BSOD with error code 0x50 are only Windows 7 64 bit . The good MS guys only admit (on the Italian page): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2982791/it and on the (say) German page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2982791/de that the issue may be not being able to change some fonts (and probably this will happen on all supported operating systems, but obviously not a severe issue as a non-booting machine). On the English page: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2982791/en-us there are INSTEAD 3 "known issues", including the BSOD one, but since the article is "Security Update related" and they "are investigating on it" they don't state which systems are affected by what in detail. (As a side note, I believe that someone at MS is not caring much about managing their non-English sites, they could print in large friendly letters "Only use the en-us site, learn English, to make that easier we are removing the stupid "automatic landing" on detected language page" ) So, for all we know it could be part of the conspiracy to promote the upgrade to the stupid Windows 8 . jaclaz
  10. Aren't you "gold partners for decades"? http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/172462-migrating-windows-7-or-8-install-from-bios-machine-to-native-boot-vhd/?p=1084106 You may be able to use your contacts at MS and ask them about that OS key, the one NoelC fell for is (was) a temporary promotional offer for Media Center given away for free, not for the "whole OS" in "upgrade" version at 14.99 unstead of 39.99.. However: http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/41771-has-it-for-sure-been-verified-the-upgrade-keys-will-not-expire jaclaz
  11. Just wanted to thank JFX for providing a working compiled bmzip.exe and clear, easy to follow, instructions on it's use. It took me some (too much ) time to FAIL in replicating with the tools provided directly or indirectly here: http://reboot.pro/topic/16915-bootmgr-recompiler/ and all of 3 (three) minutes to succeed with the version of the tool JFX provided. jaclaz
  12. Sure , just having some fun during the (loooong ) wait. jaclaz
  13. like XDR eXtremely Delayed Release jaclaz
  14. Or maybe the system is trying to have support for the MTP on the USB bus or for the specific device. jaclaz
  15. What about: iExplorer jaclaz
  16. Usually nothing particularly happens , though in a few cases, as a side effect, a division by zero occurrred. http://dividebyzero.it/ jaclaz
  17. What I always loved of menuet OS is their simple, straight to the point, way to make a bootable CD: http://www.menuetos.net/cdboot.htm They simply append to an el-torito header the floppy image, without any CDFS filesystem (which is actually the simplest and faster way to have a floppy or superfloppy based bootable CD): http://reboot.pro/topic/9916-grub4dos-isohybrided/?p=86679 http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/152399-on-bootable-cds-floppy-emulation/?p=971170 jaclaz
  18. Most probably you were tricked (it depends from WHERE EXACTLY you got that piece of information) by a rather common bug in some "web publishing" software. A Path is made by: a drive letter(optionally) a directory (optionally) one or more sub-directoriesthese elements are separated by a single backslash "\". There are some software that incorrectly double these backslashes in some cases. I.e. try: Expand C:\atioglxx.dl_ F: or Expand C:\atioglxx.dl_ F:\dr or Expand C:\atioglxx.dl_ F:\dr\ etc. See: http://ss64.com/nt/expand.html and: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Path_(computing)#MS-DOS.2FMicrosoft_Windows_style Or, if you are not willing to learn some command line basics for just this task, get a GUI program capable of managing those compressed files, namely 7-zip: http://www.7-zip.org/ instal it and open the .dl_ file with it, then extract it to the destination. jaclaz
  19. CSM means plainly "forget UEFI and let's use BIOS instead", see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unified_Extensible_Firmware_Interface#CSM_booting jaclaz
  20. I am not at all a pessimist . I am very realist (at least based on my experience), what it is likely to happen (or at least what would happen to me ) is that I would be so p***ed off by this stupid behaviour that after restoring the backup (thus needing to re-load all new drivers and re-do all the changes/tune-ups done till now) after a few hours I would unknowingly re-do ALSO the *whatever* tweak/install actually caused this stupid shutdown issue and I would be back exactly in the same situation (not knowing what the heck causes the problem AND having again the same problem). Even if this doesn't happen (because I missed re-doing the whatever causes this) the system won't work correctly if not for a few days, because before or later I will re-do (unknowingly) the whatever causes this (and of course by the time I will do a shutdown I will have completely forgotten what was it). It would be much better to find out the actual reason, only I have no idea how to find it "quickly" (the "standard" procedure is described in the article I mentioned, but it is a lengthy one ). And now, for NO apparent reason: jaclaz
  21. Well, you can re-master one with ONLY the UEFI booting, see: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/172122-got-tips-on-how-to-make-a-bootable-cd-from-bootable-usb/ but the "original" should have been already made as "dual boot" BIOS/UEFI, while it is entirely possible that the VE 200 *somehow* only emulates the BIOS booting. If I were you I would use a "real" DVD drive or make a UEFI compatible USB stick for testing the install. jaclaz
  22. I don't know. I mean it is still possible that some XP driver (or service or component or *whatever*) "hooks" *something* on the BIOS that the corresponding 9x driver/component simply ignores or bypasses. Right now I cannot think of anything "simple" to troubleshoot the issue , see: http://www.rarst.net/software/windows-shutdown-problems/ jaclaz
  23. Good. So, most probably your booting now is: MBR->Bootsector of Active partition (2nd one)->BOOTMGR (on 2nd partition)->\boot\BCD+BOOT.INI (just added to 2nd partition)-> Either Windows 7 or grub4dos To make sure this is the case, you should boot, choose grub4dos and press "c" t get to a command prompt. At it type: root (hd0,0)[ENTER] this will establish root to first partition (I am assuming that the SSD iis first disk on the system, as it usually is). Then issue: chainloader +1[ENTER] and boot[ENTER] this chainloads the bootsector of the first partition and you should be at the same \boot\BCD choices you had before the reinstall (the one comprising XP, 7 and grub4dos). Verify by rebooting that all choices boot fine. If they do, all you have to do is to re-access the grub4dos command line and issue the commands: makeactive --status (hd0,1)[ENTER] this will allow you to check that the currently active partition is the 2nd one. then issue: makeactive (hd0,0)[ENTER] this will make the First partition active, and at next reboot you will be booting "as before". jaclaz
  24. Sure it is possible . You will need to go back and re-read the old thread: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/156859-drive-order/ But right now you should have on your first partition (the one containing XP): NTLDRBOOT.INIgrldrBOOTMGR <- maybe or maybe not \boot\BCD <- maybe or maybe not And on the second one (the one containing the Windows 7 - provided that it has been made active): BOOTMGR\boot\BCD In order to verify that everything is fine, you may want to copy from the root of first partition the files: BOOT.INI grldr to the root of second partition. Reboot and you should have now a choice between Windows 7 and grub4dos. Please verify/confirm the above and I will guide you through the commands/changes needed. jaclaz
  25. Sure, a lot of countries lack specific Laws about elephant possession and care. I checked and - as an example - I could not find any specific Law about elephants in Sweden (which is otherwise often regarded as a country with a rather advanced Law system) the djurskyddsförordningen has generic provisions for "animals"" but does not define them strictly: http://www.government.se/sb/d/574/a/90310 In Switzerland (which also lacks specific Laws about elephant possession and care AFAIK ) the definition is rather vast: http://www.admin.ch/opc/it/classified-compilation/20022103/index.html Which more or less amounts to: There is no story about the dude. The guy violated a Law and a Court ordered the animal to be taken out of his custody. What is the issue? And no, it cannot be a conspiracy as "they" are all busy snooping in our communications to have time or bother about framing an Indian guy for animal cruelty . jaclaz
